History / Slavic vs Germanic thinking.... and the philosophical differences [251]

General passivity as a feature is what you describe as lack of expressed will

It's the quiet ones you have to watch ;)

I was watching the reaction of one Danish couple on the beach while they were observing ordinary Serbian kid routinely ruining his toy

You get spoilt brats in all countries. If the mother had asked for my help, my answer would be "he broke it, he can look for it, maybe he won't break his toys next time" to quote my father "the mother spoils them, then every other mother's child has to suffer them"

Love / Polish men are their own special breed ... [96]

Hey girls :)

The general conclusion is that slavic men rule.

So now we know why you've never had any success with the female of the species, they just weren't your type after all

Life / An example of what is wrong with Poland (fatal traffic accident and a tram) [55]

Harry, have you ever been on a train in the UK that's been delayed by a few hours because of a fatality? I expect you was the miserable bugger complaining?

I used to work for the railway and yes it's a huge inconvenience when the rail network grinds to a halt, because the police have to inspect the scene where someone has gone under a train, I'm sure you're one of those who would just dismiss it as a suicide, but I do remember one incident that occurred when I was at work one day, that turned out to be murder that was made to look like suicide. Had the train driver just kicked the body to one side and carried on driving the train that murder would never have been uncovered.

If it was your mother lying dead beside that tram, you would be the first to insist on a thorough investigation.

History / A question regarding Christian/Pagan military alliance in First Millenium Central Europe [17]

Christianity, regardless of appropriating some Pagan aspects, does not believe in the Goddess

So why is the major Christian festival of Easter named after a pagan goddess? What I'm saying is, just because the people carried a banner depicting a pagan goddess, doesn't mean they had not been made to convert. Even in the 21st century Christianity is still rife with pagan imagery and customs, these people may well have been Christians, but when it came to something as important as a battle, they reverted to a banner of a goddess they trusted to protect them.

UK, Ireland / A Mexican-Polish citizen is moving to UK by summer 2011 [38]

I'll second isthatu, if you haven't got a job lined up don't even think about. The job situation is bad and getting worse. We're about to lose a third of the workforce where I work, it's the same everywhere. Local government spending cuts will also have a negative knock on effect on jobs.

My local council, has just stopped the subsidy to the bus companies, there will no longer be buses on Sundays, evenings and Bank holidays, this will mean less work for the drivers, half of whom are Polish, they will be on flat wages, the company may even lay a few off. It really isn't a good time to come here, unless you have a secure job to go to.

Love / Arabs: "Polish women are easy and stupid" [132]

Everyone knows that going to Egipt as a single woman is just going for sex

Really?! It may surprise you to know that many women are educated and go to Egypt because they are interested in archaeology and Egyptian history, but then I doubt you ever meet many women like that

Off-Topic / PF - The Omnibus Edition [1502]

However, remember that for the same sum you can buy 24 Harrier jump jets, Fifteen Tornado GR1 and F3As and as many Nimrods as you can shake a stick at in the Great Uk Government Defence Cuts Car Boot Sale. Buy four and get a free half built aircraft carrier;)

Can you throw a few politicians in as well, but no return agreement on them, once they've gone we don't want them back

History / Esperanto - an effort by a Pole ... [122]

but if a quarterhorse is raised in a racing stable and can keep up and outrun a thoroughbred in the long haul, isn't it still a racing horse?

History / Esperanto - an effort by a Pole ... [122]

I learn Greek at 3 and German at 5...now I'm 25, I've lived in Germany all my life, what am I?

A dog can be born in a stable, but that doesn't make him a horse..(a wonderful Duke of Wellington quote)

News / Pubs in Poznan kick out Roma? [256]

It doesn't matter if a person utters those words and end up in a cooking pot or a cross.

It matter to me! I take care of myself and those close to me.
You care about the poor Roma, who have freewill and a choice whether to live an honest life or not, but you don't care bout someone who is killed by cannibals or crucified? I think you're the one who needs help.

However, as a woman, show a more graceful heart

My father gave me the same opportunities and same responsibilities he would give a boy, he taught me how to fight and stand on my own two feet, he never expected any less of me for being a girl and I'm grateful to him for that.

News / Pubs in Poznan kick out Roma? [256]

It depends on how you see humans ... I see each human as having a soul and a heart equally as me, in which God would reside. The matter is, how to deal with the problem correctly for GOOD OF ALL ... and there are obviously ways if you believe in yourself, and really do love and consider for them.

probably the last words of many a Christian missionary before he ended up in the cooking pot

News / Pubs in Poznan kick out Roma? [256]

Why not send the people in questions Lodz-the-boat's way...he would surely be willing to provide shelter and food for them in his garden...

I wish him luck.....
My elderly aunt had her purse stolen by such people in a supermarket, it really effected her, her health deteriorated, she lost her self confidence and suffered a stroke.

their culture and ways must be introduced to our children too ... so that a warmth can be created in either side

I don't want my children to learn how to thieve and cheat

History / Poland obliged to make war reparations to Austria and Germany after WWI. Why? [119]

Adam Zamoyski is a British historian not Polish

And which part of Britain does the name Zamoyski come from, it's definitely not English and it doesn't sound very Welsh or Scots either. he may have been born in Britain and have a British passport, but I doubt he's neutral on the subject

News / Die Welt-Poland and Germany are the economic driving force of Europe [239]

How did people live before credit cards???? ;)

I pay my credit card off in full every month, the reason I have one is, it allows me to shop on the net, where I save money and, the silly buggers give me money back for every £ I spend, which is knocked off my bill in January, quite nice after Christmas, this year I had just under £17 knocked off my bill.

So the question is, how would the banks survive if everyone was like me?
my only debt is my mortgage

Language / The Future of Polish Language [179]

I would had never thought that still possible understandable in the 20th century..

the dialect comes from that, not identical, although it is funny how many words from OE I understand, the only dialect words I use are

Chipole for spring onion
chiggiwig for wood louse
quiddle for squid

I use waps jokingly for wasp and everyone still uses gert for large. My grandmother used loads, smeech for smoke, nisch for someone who is week and delicate

Folks here on this side of the Great Pond perhaps are ignorant of the fact that you Southern English grew up hearing

You are a tad confused, Prince Albert has nothing to do with Oxford English, blame William the B@stard and his Norman nobility, they are the ones who introduced the upper class accent, the accent you speak of is the Anglo Saxon working class/peasant accent
