Life / Agnieszka holland compares life in Poland to 'sniffing farts': [97]

Funny how anyone Polish who is critical of the establishment/elite or inwardness of Poland are accused of being Jewish or communist and if your a foreigner you are accused of being an arrogant westerner- even if you are from a country like Ireland which in many ways had a similar history.

You'll always be a bad driver if you attack all criticism.

That the reason that she can be regarded as some kind of artist cause she spit on religion and tradition.

hahah I can just picture the vast majority of Artist in Poland splitting their sides laughing at the naivety of that statement.

Instead there is Gombrowicz`s Ferdydurke ( a Jewish writer ) a complusory book on the list !!!!

This book is a masterpiece of post-modernism. Reminds me of kafka or Flan O Brien. I like that term he uses in the book "an athletic lack of knowledge" reminds me of a farter on this thread.

You or your parents left Poland instead of fighting for our freedom from communism like rats from the sinking ship .

This is the fart smell she is talking about.

Polish Patriot, as far as I see, you are the one disgracing Poland with your inane comments.

very true. She is breath of fresh air.
She'll have the Nazi flash mobs barking and farting at her now. Probably another reason for remaining abroad.

History / Communism, was it the best form of government Poland ever had? [68]

are there any good novels( English) written about this period in Poland? Most Poles I talk to are on continuum of either being regressive Catholics with a strong hatred for communism and everything non-Polish or cosmopolitans whose historical reference goes as far the last episode of X Factor. Looking for a good book about what it was like in reality in everyday life.

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

why 'd they move so far away for the weather only?

100 % of the Irish people I know who moved there over the last 20 years moved for that reason. I've never met a Pole in Ireland who was there for the weather or to experience another culture. wages 4-6 time higher is the reason I always heard.

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

What is poor?

lacking sufficient money to live at a standard considered comfortable or normal in a society.

hen you drive a BMW in the alleyway of your own house, you're not really poor, are you?

Depends on how old the car is and where the house is.

the gap is not that huge.

no , not huge but big.

I'm not the one making the comparison.

yea, eurostat are

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

Of course not, Poland is not a poor country, by world standards.

Agreed just like Romania and Bulgaria were more than 50% below the average.
But on EU scale they are poor.

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

Maybe just poor.

Based on first preliminary estimates for 2012, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita expressed in Purchasing Power Standards (PPS) varied from 47% to 271% of the EU27 average across the Member States. The highest level of GDP per capita in the EU27 was recorded in Luxembourg with a level of more than two and a half times the EU27 average. Austria, Ireland, the Netherlands and Sweden were around 30% above the average. Denmark, Germany, Belgium and Finland were between 15% and 25% above the average, while the United Kingdom and France were around 10% above.

Life / Is 10500 monthly is enough for a family to live in Warsaw Poland [136]

I always wonder who supposedly is offering whom such salaries in Poland. This simply does not corresponds with everyday realities in this country. And always to Indians.

I was thinking the same. If they're that smart why can't they use google and find answer in 5 seconds.

UK, Ireland / wife wants to have baby in poland not ireland [52]

No, the fact is she wants to have the delivery in a different country,

she is completely wrong, as the facts say its a better and safer system in Ireland. but let her off, she should be close to her family, maybe.

And that's the reason why any foreign woman living in Ireland would be better off returning to a health system they trust to have their child

I agree, but its safer to have a baby in Ireland. The facts speak for themselves buddy.

News / Premier says no recession for Poland [148]

If it was easier to live in Poland than Germany then the population flow would be in the other direction.

I've made this point a hundred times on PF, best advice is "why bother". Do you not know since 20004 Poland has been flooded with westerners seeking a better life. There are no poor Poles as they all make most of their money in the black economy(all stats are false) The 2 million Poles who left Poland 2004-5 just wanted to experience how poor people live. In reality mass emigration from Poland is an illusion.

Off-Topic / Haitch' or 'aitch'? How do you pronounce the English 'H'? [6]

bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-11642588

The pronunciation of common words has changed drastically over time. So, as the British Library begins a quest to record people's articulations, what do the differences in how we pronounce words say about us?

So!! looks like the English can't speak English.

News / Premier says no recession for Poland [148]

Yea I hate that mentality of Neo-Liberal mindset; how they are so tough and made it on their own, went to school bare foot, never ask for help from anyone bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla

Here's one of the Irish BS brigade barking. Funny thing is, he owes millions now to the banks and we the tax payers have to pay for the self made hero of the universe.

UK, Ireland / wife wants to have baby in poland not ireland [52]

The facts are that she is wrong, but, she is the one having the baby, and truth be known, she just wants to be close to her family during a vulnerable time.

News / Premier says no recession for Poland [148]

As they hang around only with very rich Poles that they meet through their work, their views about Poland are false.

Also a mix of Neo-liberal mentality, Tory Brits, and their shock therapy translators.

In relation to having children the health system in Ireland is excellent, my personal experience of the Polish health system, in general is that it is a mess.( a total disaster with no communication and its nobodies fault)

But. go with it, she's the woman having the baby and she will be close to were she is most familiar, don't mind that bullsh1t about not trusting the Irish system. The only thing better in Poland is the summer and the women.

News / Premier says no recession for Poland [148]

One Irish person emigrates every six minutes
freerepublic.com/focus/news/3060526/posts
maybe in a year or two people will be saying that Ireland is avoiding recession as well.
2-3 million have emigrated from Poland since 2004 and 14% unemployment today. BUT!! Poland is avoiding recession.
I think Ireland is on the right track. The Irish recession will be over soon.
