Life / Why do people think that Poles are culturally isolated? [126]

So whats going wrong? Poland/Poles are not doing a very good job of getting across the positives of Poland.

You should not be asking questions you’re neither capable of understanding nor willing to accept it once given. Reading comments like yours and similar ones made by others of your kind, one gets an impression that “Yawn” is the only word that an intellectual ant might understand ending and summing up the discussion at the same time. The only thing you have managed to do so far in this post of yours is to reinforce this not so flattering of opinions I have about you. Ironically you admit that the image you have of Poland have been presented to the collective of ants like yourself by the powers to be yet not being able to see the clear picture, then again feeble minds are easily manipulated by the moving pictures as God only knows if they are capable of understanding written or spoken word. They effectively managed to build an impenetrable wall for you in the process, translucent perhaps but too blurry for you to see clearly while the physical one was in the process of being dismantled.

By your own admittance that horse and cart image you have is not even something you have seen and experienced for yourself but an image stuck on your mind is from the telly, presented to you and permanently engraved on your mind. Perhaps just perhaps it’s not that “Poles are not doing a very good job of getting across the positives of Poland” but people like you are incapable of absorbing the information that is presented to them. Get rid of all obstacles standing on your path to enlightenment and you’ll have the understanding you seek, I suggest you start with clearing up some of that fog that’s obstructing your view. As long as you think in terms of Eastern Block, subconsciously seeing Poland, Romania, Czechoslovakia etc. as one and the same entity this will elude you forever, getting a lesson or two in geography would be extremely helpful. Btw; the Time Warp you seem to be stuck in is not going to advance your understanding either, time for you to step out of the 80’s and catch up with the time the rest of the world is currently in.

Travel / The Magnificent Beauty of Nature's Landscapes in Poland [44]

Everyone around the globe is guilty;

It seems some are more than the others. From my perspective all those that were chopping and killing everything in sight in Europe or should I say “the Islands” were sent to Australia as a reword, a bit bigger Island, it’s only natural it will take You a bit longer to achieve the same degree of damage, It’s just a matter of time. Enjoy it while you still can.

News / Are Poles good enough for USA (to go there without a visa)? [288]

Or I'm just young and relentless.

Judging by your comments you’re young and naïve. Mind you that’s not your fault, it’s simply the consequence of the propaganda you’ve been fed on over the years and wholeheartedly believe in but the petition itself should be directed at Polish government forcing it to implement reciprocating policy towards the yanks visiting Poland, similar to what Brazilian government did a while back.

UK, Ireland / Do Polish Immigrants in Great Britain hate each other? [60]

figures show POLISH mothers are very fertile over here, more so than Pakistanis!.. wonder why

Nope, simply enjoying the moment and looking forward to subsequent enjoyment of my cigarette as a result, which tastes so much better btw. Something you should be doing more often. Live and let live, enjoy life while you still can. LOL

USA, Canada / Emigrate from the USA - the sequence of events [207]

it's because I pay attention.

I'm talking about regular groceries’ stores here, the food items with couple of pennies price difference for an average family of four who don't have their carts filled to the brim as they used to, the clothing stores, the school supplies for the kids. Like I’ve said open your eyes on the average family that go to regular stores not the affluent snobs shopping in boutique, the recession is not felt by this class of people neither is their habit of having the latest toy be taken away from them by the economic reality that most people struggle with on every day basis. Sure people are shopping at a Porsche dealer as well after all you see those around too not haggling on the price, but how many of those cars do you see on the American roads? They are not the majority of car buyers out there and sure as hell not an indicator as to which direction the country is moving on as whole.

Simply observing the shopping habits of people paint a different picture for you. Walk through the aisles see how they discuss prices substituting one brand for another because the price is cheaper or vs. those in the other store. This tells me Americans have a lot less to spend even on the most basics and that’s not the way I remember it from years ago. Americans are getting poorer and poorer and that’s a fact.

USA, Canada / Emigrate from the USA - the sequence of events [207]

My point is that we are in a recession, but the picture you paint is that we are in dire straights and this is simply not true.

Perhaps you don’t see it as it happens on a daily basis to you and you’re used to it but for me the change is obvious seeing how people used to shop 10 years ago vs. now, haw many more people on the streets etc.

I live in Boston and there are new construction sites every day and the stores are always packed

That suppose to prove what exactly? In the 80’s stores were also packed in Poland yet there was nothing to buy. People shop differently these days’ only basic necessities.

We've always had poverty and always will.

Not as much, seeing a bum once in a while begging is one thing but have you go to stores recently? I have people are watching every penny these days. Seeing how one was treated recently at a car mechanic shop in Chicago was a real eye opener for me, no compassion whatsoever for the poor soul, it’s not the America I visited a decade ago. Things really changed there.

Are you saying you don’t have poverty problem? I suppose you have no homeless people either? If you mean starving as in famine then no but there’s plenty of American families out there who are forced to make a hard choice and their kids have to skip meals just so they can get by as living from paycheck to paycheck is not enough anymore. Are you denying that? I wonder why that is.

USA, Canada / Emigrate from the USA - the sequence of events [207]

He's in dire straits, most of us are not.

Most of you are, you simply choose to close your eyes to what’s happening out there. Blame the bad economic decisions of both political parties who cater only to select few on the average Joe’s laziness as if that’s the culprit. Face it, if you don’t reverse the trend it will lead to even worse economic reality for your citizens than that of the third world countries, your perceptions won’t help you to turn the things around either, neither will calling me names.

Law / Citizenship of Poland can be obtained through the blood line but my ancestor could lose it in the past [45]

I see that the two resident polonophobs of this forum are trying to discourage you in your quest as usual, do not be intimidated by what they are saying Dave. Good news is that neither of them is an expert on polish immigration law nor Polish themselves for that matter. If the Brazilian whose ancestors emigrated from Poland in 1920’s got confirmation of his Polish citizenship (he wrote about it somewhere on this forum) I don’t see why can’t you. Polish traditions have been passed on in your family through generations, your Polish is good enough, that’s half the battle right there.Your mother should get her confirmation of Polish citizenship first, that's the way he got his.

Law / Polish Passport and Polish Citizenship (dual with American) [14]

What paperwork would I need?

While you wait for your dads' documents don't forget your own. The document that will ultimately confirm the information contained in the application is your own birth certificate which btw is in English. If the document is a foreign documents it is necessary to translate it into Polish by a sworn translator. It is possible to use the services of a professional translator in the U.S., but then such document must undergo consular legalization unless it was originally issued with apostille clause . Any Document that was translated should be submitted in person to the consulate to certify it making it legally acceptable in Poland before you submit them with your application for confirmation of citizenship, there is a $40 fee for that service. Also a copy of your current ID as well as some document legally testifying to your current marital status, which are usually obtained at the Secretary of State office, both of those will be in English so translate them and certify them as well.

Law / Polish Passport and Polish Citizenship (dual with American) [14]

Am I qualified for citizenship?

You are Polish by blood, you should have no problem obtaining Polish passport provided you have your dads paperwork in order. He did not lose his citizenship either by being naturalized but the process might take some time if you don't have proper documents on hand. Start working on it as soon as possible if you plan on going to school in Poland anytime soon. The embassy staff are not known for being expedient in those matters or very helpful over the phone,a trip to the nearest consulate in person is requirwd to get the process rolling.

News / What really happened at the Krakow restaurant? [53]

Does this work for Jews too?! I got a house full of pictures of Jews

Then you’re already a rich man, take a good look at your walls, some riches can’t be measured in material possessions but somehow I don’t expect you to have a picture of Jesus on your wall anytime soon. It’s called religious or cultural difference.

Life / Are Polish natives intolerant of foreigners who do not properly speak the language? [30]

pointing out that other people are racist, too, doesn't help at all.

Neither does the

Someone told me that Polish natives are intolerant of foreigners

yup that's really a credible story.

This is a true story: my friend Wendy went over to Poland to test her Polish speaking skills. She said that some guy told her that she wasn't saying it right and go back to the United States.

He probably heard the same in the U.S

She told me that Poles are cruel people.

He told the same story about the Yanks and the cat is out of the bag so to speak.

USA, Canada / Getting a VISA to USA by a Polish person nowadays [339]

my point is that if you get a work permit to work in the usa, attaining citizenship is very doable if you are a good worker and obey the law.

On a work visa? Surely you jest. On a work visa alone you can’t apply for permanent resistance let alone for citizenship.

Is it? Then how come you have this illegal immigration problem now and not let’s say way back in the sixties? Could it be all the changes in policies which make an impact on perception and general feeling of those that wish to go there? I wonder.

News / Anty-Polish v column is located in White House [88]

In the town of Sedziszow, where my grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins lived, the townspeople burned down the town hall after the war so no records of Jewish ownership could be proven.

Honestly all I can say is that Larry Cohen is full of sh**. During the occupation 70% of the buildings in town were more or less destroyed including the town hall. When the Red army reached the doorstep of the town the retreating German army destroyed the rest, simply blowing it all up, the train station, railroad tracks etc. Most of the local Jews were sent to Belzec during occupation. No mention of 30 or so local Jews that were hidden by the local Polish population either; in all likelihood probably his own family as he claims to be a descendent of the survivors from that area. Funny how the account of those days is changed by those who never been there themselves.
