History / How do Poles feel about 10th anniversary of 9/11 [40]

I was thinking a long time about this situation. Trying to connect the dots.
Cui bono?

First - I don't believe in War on Terror. In fact - ten years of occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan effects are quite opposite. A whole new generation of terrorists grow up.

There is little wonder in this. Countless thousands of young men in these countries has been affected. They lost family members, houses, any chance for education or career. At the same time they become accustomed with violence. In this situation - a carrier of professional extremist is the only available to them.

Second - the official explanation on these wars are just ridicules. We all know the truth about Saddam's mythical weapons of mass destruction. And invading the whole country (Afghanistan) in order to catch and kill one man is equally mad.

These wars are just plain stupid and pointless if one wants to believe in official explanation.
So - why? Why the USA continue this affair for 10 years?

My private theory is quite simple. I think that in the future historic handbooks the War on Terror would be considered a minor detail. I think that the XXI century would be remembered as a time of much more serious conflict.

The mighty power of US economy is shrinking already. The national debt is sky high. And they can't fix it. At the same time the economic and military power of China is growing rapidly. Sooner or later the Chinese would try to reach what they think they deserve - the status of Empire and a Yuan as an universal international currency. That would be the end of the US of A.

The war between China and the USA is just a matter of time. If the USA would win - it's huge debt held by China would be probably written off.

Not forget Russia and India.

What is happening now is a preparation. In future, when the time come, the USA would need huge, well trained and well equipped army. And all of this cost money. In the time of peace such an budget is beyond the reach for the army-industrial complex.

But in the time of war everything changes.
What the USA needs right now is war. A little small scale never ending war. And the Arab countries are perfect target for two reasons - they are no real threat to the US and there is oil as a bonus.

Additional bonus is that the war hysteria (or fierce patriotism if you like) allow the US government change the nation. In the time of war it's much easier to take some rights and privileges from the people.

"Give up your freedom for more security" - It's happening right now.
And people fighting for their rights would be branded as traitors. It's much easier to create an obedient and disciplined nation that is easy to govern when the war is on the news.

Ironically - I think that the real target in the Iraq and Afghanistan war is not some mythical "terrorist" but the American nation itself. But sadly - it has to be like that.

In order to survive - "the land of the brave and home of the free" has to become the land of strong, obedient and disciplined people. And for this process - a war is needed.

BTW - Take a look at the map of Afghanistan. This is realy good strategic position. And a mainland of China can be easily invaded from there.

Life / Observation of Polish drivers, by and English anthropologist. [94]

And again:

As the story goes, one time, as the Grande Armee marched out of France on one of Napoleon's invasions, the Emperor asked his engineers why there were no trees on the roads to shade the marching troops, and how long it would take to put them there.

The engineers looked at one another, and one finally said, "Emperor, it will take twenty years for those trees to grow!"
Napoleon immediately replied: "Exactly. That's why we must begin at once!"

Frogs everywhere! Everybody panic!

You are 28 years old, driving 1.6 litre car, and you see an "80 km/h" speed limit sign.

Thank you for the words of true wisdom. You put it straight and right for now and for all the times to come.
Hail to You, Great Torq!

does anyone know why my idiotic country drives on the wrong side?

It's all about this bloody French scum, frog-eater Napoleon Bonaparte (so called Imperator).

He imposed some silly ideas on every country he conquered.
Ideas like civil rights, Roman-like structure of the law and driving on the wrong side of the road.
No doubts that he did it for sole reason to make Englishmen looks stupid and outdated.
He accomplished this task with a great success BTW.

History / Poland's biggest historical blunder? [341]

Love for anarchy sometimes called "golden freedom".
Not realising that idea of democracy in XVI century is little... premature. :)

In Poland you either drive at 80km/h (this is a speed of lorries) or you jumping over.
Is this really illegal?
I've always thought that illegal is "overtaking as a third" ie when you trying to overtake a vehicle that is already performing manoeuvre of overtaking another car.. lol

BTW - for most Polish drivers, speed limits signs are perceived as a mild suggestion. :)

Life / Positive things which make a Pole stand out positively in the World! [30]

For plus: We love freedom. Show us a perspective of Liberty and we will fight and die for it.
For minus: Freedom means anarchy for us. We are unmanageable people. We don't trust any authority or government. Even our own gov't.

But in the other hand: anarchy is fun. I like it.

News / How Polish diaspora see future of Poland? as ethnic Polish state or just Polish in origin? [120]

Poland has had Muslim citizens for hundreds of years. If Polish Tartars were the ones complaining where would you deport them to?

I know about them and I am proud of their faithful service to Kingdom of Poland. They are Poles as I am. They are OUR muslims and whoever say anything bad about them - is not real Polish in my eyes.

On the other hand - if they would try to enforce their beliefs over ours - there shall be no mercy for them. They would be ridiculed in every possible way.

And that is (if I may say) a true tolerance in Polish-style. They are living in the overall Catholic country for over 500 years and they are safe.

We did not change for their comfort and they did not change for ours. But we are all Polish.

Strange, isn't it?

News / How Polish diaspora see future of Poland? as ethnic Polish state or just Polish in origin? [120]

Poland had been a multi-culti country for ages before this word was even invented.
As a Polish I have got no problem at all with the peoples from other countries that want to live in Poland. I think they all would be welcomed and accepted as long as they would be honest and hard-working people.

But there is a significant difference between Polish-style tolerance and the Western one.

Polish tolerance is based on the sense of a privacy. We are not interested in the way and details of other's people life. It's a "Live and let live" attitude. But there is a "thin red line". Western tolerance is based on the fear.

Let's say that some theoretical "Muslim Council of Warsaw" would be offended by the Christmas lights and decorations. And let's say that they would demand to remove these lights and a formal apology.

In the West (let's say - in the United Kingdom) the response would be like "OK. We remove these lights and crosses for the sake of harmony and peace. We don't care much about it. We wish you all the best and welcome in our country!".

In Poland that would be a big "Phuck off! This is Poland, ya know? Like it or leave it - it's your choice" And then some insults. And then some more insults. And then quick deportation.

Law / PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF SWASTIKA AND NAZI SYMBOLS in Krakow, Poland - Where I should report them? [56]

Art. 256.
(...)
§ 3. Nie popełnia przestępstwa sprawca czynu zabronionego określonego w § 2, je-
żeli dopuścił się tego czynu w ramach działalności artystycznej, edukacyjnej,
kolekcjonerskiej lub naukowej.
(...)

This is interesting. It seems that it is allowed to wear ss uniform with swastika etc in Poland as long as it is for "artistic, educational, collection or science purposes".

News / US Military: The Army of Poland is crap. [124]

I am Polish. I am patriot. I was a solider. And sadly, I think that the Polish army IS a crap.

I can elaborate, but really - is that necessary? Isn't that obvious? Everyone who is or was in Polish army knows that.

Love / Polish girls' attitude towards different kinds of sex [88]

I am disappointed.
The topic is "Polish girls' attitude towards different kinds of sex"
I thought I would read about amazingly imaginative and unusual way of making love. As this is Polish Forum - about an unique Polish way of banging that can be achieved only on the bank of the Vistula river on the first day of spring (or something like that). But all you talking about is anal.

Anal this anal that.

This is a clear breach of the forum regulations. Either the topic is misleading or you all are way off topic.

Behave or I will report you all.

Life / Polish patriotism, what does it mean to you? [46]

David_18:
in blood yes ;)

I don't want to upset you... but you're nothing special. Most Poles have szlacheckie pochodzenie. Nothing to be snotty about

Actually not more than 8-10% of population. Hardly the "most".

News / Anti semtism at Polish Congress [57]

I don't support Mr Kwaśniewki or Mr Kaczyński or Mr Komorowski.
I support my country. And I support the President of Poland.

I may not like the man, but I respect the office.

This is my country and this is my President.
Even if I don't like the man who is the President - he is still a President elected by the Nation.
I have to respect it. Otherwise I would be no more than traitor.

Life / As a black gay man (US) visiting Warsaw this summer, will I get beat up for nothing? [65]

Oh come on - deer meat or wild boar meat is something... Hm.. This sentence started well, but I don't know how to finish it.

I can't really explain it.
Of course - one may say that the deer or wild boar meat is the same as cow or pig meat.
But once you taste it - You will know the difference. It makes you some harm in the way that for the rest of you life you will know that the pork you eating is a fake. Just the distant reminiscent of the real thing - wild boar's meat.

The same if you compare the real wild forest honey, the real butter made from the fresh milk or the real wild mushrooms with the products you can buy from your local store. And many other things. Like real beer for instance.

We are all conned.

As for the Firesun - I did not know that your holidays will last for 4 days only. In this case - stay in the city.

I would recommend you Toruń - my favourite town in Poland. It has got everything the man can desire.

b) Is there something like a "Polish" culture or Polish national identity?
c) Is there "something like" a Polish culture or Polish national identity?
d) Is there something like a Polish culture or Polish "national identity"?

The quiz.
:)

If you are a Polish - pick the most offensive and arrogant version.

News / Anti semtism at Polish Congress [57]

enkidu:
I mean - would an nation of supposed Jew-haters vote for Jews?

Its all a cunning plan, dont you see? If you vote for them that means you always know where they are,no need to go jew hunting in the forest if most of them are in the Sejm.......;)

How cunning people the Poles are, aren't they? :-)
They vote for the Jews to blame them for their own shortcomings. ;-)

Btw - I wonder (really not trolling this time) why there is such an outrage of Mr Kobylanski announcement that the 1/3rd of Polish government's members are ethnic Jews?

What is says is that a Polish voters don't judge people by their ethnicity, religion or nationality. I was learned that this is a good attitude. So - what the fuss? Can anyone kindly explain it to me?

What's wrong with that? Maybe their ethnicity supposed to be a secret and Mr Kobylanski give it away?
I don't know.

Enlighten me, please.

Life / As a black gay man (US) visiting Warsaw this summer, will I get beat up for nothing? [65]

And phuck the Warsaw anyway. Everyone goes to Warszawa, Kraków or Gdańsk nowadays.
There are a lot of other lovely places in Poland.

I may serve you with some advice, but I am a kind of survival-canoeing-forest guy. I don't know much about a gay places, but You've never said that this kind of entertainment is your main reason to visit Poland. How do you feel about fishing, exploring old bunkers, good food (like Deer roast) and mushroom picking?

Or eating in places like that:

This place was established not so long ago - in 1489. And the food is more than decent. :)
