News / More punch-UPS ON 11th NOV in Poland? [56]

should be remembered that it was started

...'he started it'
'no, mom, he started'

Christ stop being pathetic, it doesn't matter a pig's fart who started it, the problem is that it starts at all. Why do these Neanderthals believe that they have the right to do this in the first place? And why the hell aren't people banding together to stop the nonsense?

And no, sure we'll all just sit at home that day and watch TV, play on our xbox'es & tablets and pretend that it's not happening. Polish people need to fúkin wake up and reclaim their country from the clowns that are trying to ruin it...i.e football hooligans, moherowe berety, chairman jaro, violent left + right protesters. I do not understand why the authorities allow these different marches in the first place. Complete and utter nonsense.

Move the 'celebration' to a nice summer's day and have marchin bands and floats, a proper parade to celebrate Polish independence day and not this codology where different minorities of gobhites take it upon themselves to act as if they're running the show.

And I don't get why the silent majority does nothing.........except to read the paper/watch the news and mumble "ah, that's Poland' That attitude has gotten Poland where it is today. Nowhere. In the doldrums. Why don't people grow some balls and stand up? Ya know why, coz they're lazy as hell 'round here and don't give a flying fiddles fck about anything other than themselves, there's no unity in Poland, there's no feeling 'we're in this together' no comradery.

Yea, yea, I know you'll all go to town on me now and I fully expect "go on home if you don't like it here" Well, the thing is I do like it here. There's a million and one great things about Poland....but why you let the likes of the neo-nazis, the religious right, the violent left etc etc call so many shots I do not understand.

......ah that's way too long, most a ya won't even bother reading it.

Short version: Poland is cool, get together and knock some sense into the idiots that are bringing the country down.

he chooses to affiliate himself with Nazi supporters over those that support the President

Prob coz he is a Nazi himself.

I don't seem to remember any 'lefties' throwing flares or fighting with cops.
..............God I hate to use those American terms 'left' and 'right'..............
those of us who do live here know that it was the right-wingers causing the trouble on November 11th last year, just like they will this year.

Why can't ye all just celebrate it like it's a 4th of July or St Patrick's Day and celebrate what it is to be Polish and the great things about the country?

Oh no, ye can't get along for 5 minutes unless it involves a soccer match or MMA or volleyball!
Every year it gets hijacked by moronic knuckle-draggers intent on causing trouble, they claim to be patriotic, ha, patriotic me hole, holding this country back is all they're doing.

Off-Topic / I am teaching my Polish friend English, advice needed [30]

I am not a teacher.

Run away, it's not worth it the money she's paying you, you'll just cause a load of work for yourself and won't teach her properly.

has lived in the UK for 6 years, doesn't speak English, and hasn't wanted to learn.

If she hasn't learnt by now she's not goin to bother no matter what she says, you're onto a dead rubber here love. Walk away.

Life / All Saints' Day in Poland - Commemoration or Carnival? [44]

Halloween's where its at, All Soul's Day is boring as fuq in Poland. Standing round a graveyard in the cold.
You don't need to go to a shaggin graveyard to remember your dead loved one.
For me, it's just terribly fake. Why should one day be put aside to remember your dead loved ones? Why can't you just do it anytime?

Anyway, we all know that All Sain'ts/Soul's Day was stolen by the Christians from those party animal Celts who used to love to have a massive shindig on Halloween.

Mexico's Day of the Dead is unreal however, one experienced it once but it was fantastic, hey Polonius we actually agree one one thing finally :P

Way better than the miserable macabre pseudo grief that's served up here.

Plus who do ye go to the cemetery on the wrong day? November 1st is All Saint's Day, not the normal dead, November 2nd is All Soul's Day, surely that would be the proper day?

Work / Need advice regarding moving to Krakow (got 95K zloty gross offer) [6]

Smurf you've got it wrong.

You're dead right chap, I don't know what came over me, I didn't calculate the tax properly at all.

Emc maybe lower you're expectation for saving 1000 to 750 and you'll live more comfortably here.

of the 1700 that phtoa has calculated look at things like phone bill/ 50-100zl per week if you use it a lot, my bill is anywhere from 250-350 per month.

Fuel for car, I pay around 100zl per week but it's diesel so it's a bit better...I get around 250-270km per week out of that. God knows what that is in miles.

Then you're food another 100-150 per week (yea I eat alot, my missus can live off 50zl for a week, don't know how she does it tbh)

So that leaves you with about 600zl for yourself + the $1000 for your savings target.
Not wonderful but at least your fuel, rent, food & phone would be paid

If you didn't have to save the $1000 you'd live like a king.

Work / Need advice regarding moving to Krakow (got 95K zloty gross offer) [6]

96k = 8000zl per month, minus your Zus (Health & Social Insurance) and rent leave you with about 6500zl per month

$1000 = 3130zl (according to today's rate)
You're sorted.

Food and beer is cheap in Poland, rent in Krakow isn't the best, but if you're willing to shop around you'll find something decent.

Best a' luck

Life / Poland: When usually is the best time to change from summer to winter tyres? [42]

this weekend is supposed to be the warmest in autumn

mighty news :)

I'll probably change them when it starts being cold all day

Yea, I've got to order some new ones and tbh I'd rather buy something cool (like a galaxy tablet....I know, nerd!) and wait till I'm paid again, but that's the middle of November so I think I'd be taking a bit of a risk and should probably buy the tyres first.

Food / The Mystery of Polish Sausage - Interesting kiełbasa link [17]

many miles do you have to drive to the nearest Lidl? Or is the distance so close that it can be measured in yards?

Couldn't tell ya, don't have a clue how big a yard is. Closest Lidl is about 1.5km away. But if I'm feelin posh I might even go to Alma :P

F

not a grade, F = fail :)

so, not to get off-topic, do you buy your sausage by pound or by kilogram?

Ah, i only live with me missus so I usually just buy a pack of krupniok or kielbasa every now and then, sometimes just the one big sausage from one the local butchers, tend to stay away from the likes of Tesco and that, although the Lidl ones are quite good, especially the biała kielbasa

a percentage of what exactly?

ok, so if I ask a kid what they got in a maths exam and they say 5...I'm like, wtf does that mean, you got 5 questions right, you got 5 questions, how many questions were there etc? Ya get me?

With % then you know how smart or dumb your kid is.

Me: Yo, Johnny, how was your economic philosophy exam?
Johnny: Daddy, it got 30%
Me: You're a dumb kid Johnny, down the coalmine you go.

Far easier to know (^_^)

Food / The Mystery of Polish Sausage - Interesting kiełbasa link [17]

It's 1 to 6 actually.

6 is a stupid number, it won't go into 10 or 100 so you can't get a percentage. Stupid system.

Why would the A - D system be any better

Because most other people use it. But oh no! Poland has to be different as usual, can't go with the flow (^_^)
That's me joking btw, don't take offence, coz I know most of the people on this forum missed the class called 'sarcasm'

A 85-100% Excellent
B 70-84% Very Good
C 55- 69% Good
D 40-54% Pass
E 25-39%, Fail
F <24% Fail

Far easier for all involved than this 1 to 6 nonsense.

Death by sausage

Food / The Mystery of Polish Sausage - Interesting kiełbasa link [17]

Here is an itenresting link about Polish kiełbasa:

No, it's not, it's the opposite of interesting. In fact, I would go so far as to say that it's quite boring. If internet articles about Polish sausages could be colour-coded I'd give your's a grey. Red would be the best of course, but yea, this one is pretty bad. Grey, or if you'd like to use the system Polish schools use, 1/5.

Why does Polish schools only mark out of 5, it's pretty stupid. Why not out of 100% or use the A-D grading system?

Life / Bishops defend Polish family [105]

Rydzyk is an astute entrepreneur, and that should warm the heart of all you economic liberals aka captialists. He set up a media empire, academic institutions and is developing a hydrotherrmal project.

bah-hahahahahah
Rydzyk is the 2nd most hateful/hated man in Poland.......after chairman troll-monster-in-constant-black-suit-and-tie

Rydzyk lost sight of what it means to be a priest a long, long time ago.

+1

'European civilisation and its identity is threatened by the questioning of the family -- the essence of a durable bond between man and woman. That topic is increasingly being raised in great, seemigly wholly secularised France... Marriage and the family should receive legal and material protection so as to avoid tragic conseuquences. Such a conseuqence would be a sick family requiring treatment.'

Yea, I'm gonna listen to a dude that dresses up in tunics every weekend giving advice about marriage and family. A man who has never had children (we're not counting molesting them) and who's never been married.

Polonius stop blindly following such garbage and please stop repeating your boring mantras here every single day. Go outside, smell the roses, learn to play the guitar, something, anything, just please stop ruining this forum. This is not your mouthpiece. You probably think you are instigating discussion? Well, you aren't. Please stop, you're killing this forum.

Life / Polish Etiquette [11]

What do you agree with?
What would you add?

a-to-z-of-manners-and-etiquette.com/polish-etiquette.html

Always be on time, it is considered extreme bad manners and poor etiquette to keep people waiting.

I personally hate this one, I'll be late for my own funeral. Life is too short to be on time all the time........unless it's for a plane

If you are invited to a private home for dinner, be prepared to remove your shoes before entering (no holes in socks please!)

First time I didn't know about this...I was wearing odd coloured socks. I'd understand if you had lovely expensive timber floors but they had some crap threadbare carpet.

The Polish workday usually starts around 8 am and ends no later than 4 pm. The working week includes a Saturday morning. Sunday is a day of rest, a time to be with family and go to church - Poland is 90% Catholic.

Well, that's obviously bullshit

Hands in pockets is considered disrespectful and rude. It is also bad etiquette to sit with one ankle resting on the other knee.

Bullshit too.

Business is taken seriously and the Poles don't appreciate the Western-style sales pitch. Just say it as it is and keep it strictly business.

Yea, this is true, business people are not one bit friendly here and there's no foreplay before getting down to business. I've heard it's the same with Polish men and that's why foreigners are such prized possession for Polkas. :P

I also don't like the thing of shaking every man's hand and kissing every chick every time you meet them even though you met them yesterday and then 3 days before that and a week before that. I think it's a bit disgusting, you never know where the dude's hand has been and if he washed it after he took his bigos poop that morning.

What would you add to the list?

Study / Comming to Poland Soon.. interested in medicine studies [6]

And thanks to the media and Church

yea, that's right, everyone in Poland watches the TV and goes to Church and believes everything they are told.

Pfft!

OP if you wanna come to Poland do, there's a decent Medical school in Katowice but you won't get a job here afterwards, you'll have to go somewhere else. The vast majority of Med students in Kato are Canadian & Asian so I presume they just head home after finishing their courses and get job. Or ya'know you could just join an army for a few years and get you Dr. qualifications there.

News / Poland marching for faith and freedom [43]

"Poland marching for freedom on Saturday"

Poland is a free country. I really really wish that the other Kaczynski brother had been on that plane.

PiS, which is trying to clean up the country's post-communist mess,

Ha! They long for the old ways, their entire economics policy is way over to the left, yet their social policy is extreme right, they're a party that don't know what to think. The blind leading the blind. Best thing that could happen to them is Chairman Jarek would step down like he promised to when he lost...how long has he been making that promise now? 6 or 8 elections? But I suppose it's better for Poland to have him as glorious leader of PiS since the silent majority wouldn't all ow the wee troll monster back into power.

TV Trwam, teh voice of truth and common sense

F*ck those c*nts, spreading their xenophobic fear and hatred, ripping off old biddies of their few shillings that they do get.
The great thing about radio maryja is that it's listenership is diminishing by the day, young people don't listen to such drivel and the old just keep getting closer to the grave. Give it 20 years and it's influence will be totally eliminated..... & good riddance and all.

Food / Irish or English breakfast tea in Poland? [11]

Barry's

Ahhhh.....that's for Cork people!

G'way outta that.
here's what you're really after

Agree with ya that Irish tea is way stronger than the weak ass dust ya get here though.
Suppose we've a more addictive personality than them continental types.

Used to put milk in it, but not anymore, prefer it that way now. Was fairly used to it anyway, used to work on sites and sure ya'd never have a fridge so just got used to black tea.

Some people drink black tea for Lent too.
