History / Restoration of Poland's Monarchy? [40]

at the same time it was necessary for liberty

Liberty for whom? Only for the privileged class. The vast majority of the population were peasants and townsfolk without rights.

History / Restoration of Poland's Monarchy? [40]

Sick. The work of twisted and paranoid minds, I am sure.

1794 ... how long ago is that once again ... ? :)

Genealogy / Where did most Germans live in Poland in the 19th century? [26]

I think it's important not to be potentially provocative and use names like Pozen, Oppeln

No provocation intended. In genealogy, modern names are simply not that important. In 1918 for example, Posen and Oppeln were still part of the German Empire and their names as such "official", as you say. If you try to locate your ancestors in documents from that time frame, then you'll have to use the place names of that era.

Genealogy / Where did most Germans live in Poland in the 19th century? [26]

and some German inhabitants

Like Oppeln for example? You have to be careful with your statements, Jon, because there were many parts of the country in 1918 where Germans were either in the majority or at least a significant minority.

News / GERMANS WANT TO GERMANIZE KOPERNIK (COPERNICUS)! OUTRAGE! [1016]

Encyclopædia Britannica, Encyclopedia Americana, The Concise Columbia Encyclopedia, The Oxford World Encyclopedia, and World Book Encyclopedia

People like you usually complain about the west and the "wrong" version of history they supposedly teach there. Why make an exception now? :)

History / Polabia back to Slavs? [113]

Lusatia

The Sorbs are perfectly fine, dude. They don't need Serbian, Canadian or Polish right-wing nuts to tell them what they have to think or do.

Open-cast mining for brown coal - a cheap but highly polluting source of power

And now a quick look across the border... :)

History / When will you Poles give back German land and the cities which you robbed? [557]

They all wants to work with us because we have preferential status and special agreements with Russia and China.

Come on, Crow, don't be silly. Germany had already been the number 1 export nation when Yugoslavia still existed. They didn't need you then and they won't need you in the future to gain access to the Russian market.

while in fact hate us.

They don't hate *you*, they hate what you've done.

Genealogy / Richert, Bonkoska from Jasień, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship [8]

If your ancestors were ethnic Germans, Reichert or Reichard(t) is more likely. Regarding the changes in spelling, you need to be aware of the fact that until 1874 there were no official rules how to spell your name. Oftentimes, priests and other local officials wrote down the name the way it was pronounced - thus leading to a wide variety of spellings for the name of the same person and/or family.

Genealogy / Richert, Bonkoska from Jasień, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship [8]

One of the largest web sites for genealogical research in the area: dobriner-land.de
For a list of available church books: dobriner-land.de/evkirche/lipno.htm

You'll have to be very lucky to find any surviving land records for pre-WW2 properties owned by ethnic Germans. The Polish government took great care after the war to destroy any traces left behind by the previous owners - especially documents related to real estate.

News / Polish Pope, John Paul II has been canonized today [with John 23rd] [85]

It goes without say that low-value and low-information people don't think highly of the Polish Pope being Canonized, or that these low-value people are Anti-Catholic.

High value people = catholic, low value people = all others ? Interesting.

News / Poland and Kresy being reunited? [162]

Albert Einstein (actually Jewish and not German...)

So all Jewish Nobel laureates who were born in the USA are actually not Americans? Interesting "theory" you have there...

Love / Why are Polish girls so attracted to German boys? [52]

How did you get to this conclusion is absolutely beyond me.

Because Lenka was talking about heritage, and I understood that she meant Polish women of German heritage. Anyway, let her answer. I'm sure it was a misunderstanding, but here on PF you never know.

This pushes German women into the arms of Turkish men

The large number of supposedly German/Turkish marriages in statistics is misleading because Turkish-Germans (who of course count as Germans) marry women or men from Turkey and bring them to Germany.

Love / Why are Polish girls so attracted to German boys? [52]

So ethnic Polish women can't possibly marry a German, that's what you're saying? According to available statistics, there were 4205 German-Polish marriages in 2007, 2660 marriages in 2011, and 2610 in 2012 (German men, Polish women).

News / Germany returns WW2 loot to Poland [14]

Russia is the worst offender - they still consider them spoils of war.

That is true; not only for art. There are for example an estimated 300,000 protestant church books rotting away in Moscow archives that were looted by the Red Army.

Genealogy / Town or village name Lipine [13]

It used to be German during the Second World War and was called Lipine

Historically wrong. The town was German before WW1 and was known as Lipine, Schlesiengrube or Schwientochlowitz (of which it became part of). 51.9% of the population voted to stay within the German Reich after the war, but the town was given to the newly created Poland.
