News / Polish Foreign Ministry 'prepared' for new Wikileaks material [100]

The mafia got plenty ways of doing business. And the Slovenia thingy is not far away from that in a legal way but still an absurd way.

Anyway it was a very childish move by the Americans to refuse to meet with Slovenian officials if the Slovenians would't accept Americas offer.

It's just an ugly side of politics. All countries have ugliness in their politics. It doesn't appeal to us because we aren't politicians. It's stuff they do to get things done.

News / Polish Foreign Ministry 'prepared' for new Wikileaks material [100]

Would be fun to find out what the American goverment thinks about the Poles. Since they seems to have very fun opinions about other countries and their leaders. They called the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin an "alpha-dog," and the Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai is "driven by paranoia" and they describe German Chancellor Angela Merkel as one who "avoids risk and is rarely creative."

But are those negative comments or just unbiased observations? They don't sound too bad.

Angela "Teflon" Merkel...Westerwelle "vain and incompetent" (no disagreement here) and so on!

sounds a little worse...

Life / What on earth is the fascination of Indians, Pakistanis and Nepalese with Poland? [112]

I might be wrong, but not a day goes by that some one from that part of the world doesn't start or adds to a thread about business or (more common) marriage? I even noticed that they seem to be clustered ...i.e. one day there are more than on others.

Is it because there aren't that many fora for other countries? Is Poland really that valuable for people from these countries? Are there some other intentions? Maybe I am some silly, anachronistic fart, but I just don't get it.

It is the same reason they are fascinated with other countries...their populations are great and they want to move to a place with more room. They come here whenever they can.

USA, Canada / Not everyone that lives or comes from America is RICH! [300]

Tell me please, who are all these other people who need so much help and economic assistance to do what a few pollacks were able to do with only their bare hands a hundred years ago?

The fed has paid for so much, it's made everyone's life easier in so many ways. Next time you take a drive to your local supermarket in your automobile on asphalt roads, thank the fed. We have progressed because of it. Let's not turn our back on our awesome civilization! I believe we will prevail and be stronger for it. We must not turn our back on technology. Super conductors and hydrogen vehicles will be the beginning of a second industrial age that will generate even greater wealth than the first. We have to let the fed do it's job! We need that technology. Companies cannot do it alone. We have to get started on our graphine tubing and that's going to take a lot of start up money.

I truly believe Ron Paul and others like him could save the country by eliminating the Federal reserve and starting up a national banking system that prints it's own money instead of borrowing it from rthe Fed.

When you start talking like that, it's scary. What if that devestates the country by shrinking the economy? We have to tread carefully, not do anything too hasty and extreme.

How and why the Federal Reserve even got into that position is very questionable.

Research what the country was like before the fed and you will see how much growth and progress has occurred because of it. The fed has not been entirely bad.

I disagree. Most of the true hardships here I know of personally are started with an illness or an accident.

Which isn't always brought on by the person on purpose. It's just bad luck or misfortune.

but I just cannot see how America can keep spending.

Ironically the government is making money at the expense of corporations. Those tarp funds has brought big money to the federal government in the form of returns. In fact, if the government could finance the debt and pay it that way, why not? Just become a big bank that charges interest.

it'll just mean much higher taxes.

You can't just keep raising taxes forever with most of the money going to pay this huge debt. It's time to pay down the debt by reducing govt.

It's a serious problem. What we must do is tighten our belts the way the British are doing now, pay off some of that debt and put ourselves in a better financial situation internationally. If we do not, collapse is inevitable :(

USA, Canada / Not everyone that lives or comes from America is RICH! [300]

The US is one of the only countries that taxes worldwide income.

Oh, Well that's not good. Once you go work in another country you should pay taxes in that country and not the country you are a citizen of unless you somehow do business in it.

And as for f stop I don't believe any country should suffer hardship, but US doesn't need to go backwards just because other places aren't thriving. We are what makes our country great and I am greatful to live here.

You're very patriotic, aren't you? Your country is ******, and all you can think about is how to avoid paying taxes?

America is still an awesome place to live. People should pay their taxes though.

Love / 'Battered husbands' - still a taboo subject in Poland [387]

My main complaint has to do with the news being presented in a "politically correct" way, and of course much of the false information dealing with domestic violence comes from feminists.

I don't understand what you mean by this. Are you accusing women of distorting the data? Why would you justify any sort of domestic violence? Are you saying feminists act like men never get hit?

Love / How should I approach this young Polish man that I like? [48]

I just watched a show with two people who took a class on how to date. What the instructor did was have them write their phone number and name on two small pieces of paper. Then, they had to go to a grocery store and hand them to two people they were interested in. They didn't have to say anything, just hand the paper with their names and numbers out. Of course, they could say something if they wanted to. You could do the same thing with this dude. You can write your name, number and words "call me sometime" and hand it to him. If he doesn't call, he isn't interested.

News / America's Tea Party like Poland's Solidarnosc? [59]

Social Security, Medicare, government jobs, government contracts...

That's true. Most people have benefitted from socialism before it was called that - like when the government was giving away free land. No one had a negative label for that so everyone thought it was great and it's still celebrated today...however...if the government went and did the same thing now...it would be called "socialism" and it would be criticised, unless the landn was going to the "right" (literally, people on the far right) people. Then it would be okay. Everybody wants free stuff from the government. Nobody wants to pay taxes.

News / America's Tea Party like Poland's Solidarnosc? [59]

A little bit of socialism isn't bad. Tea Party is against any kind of socialism. They weren't around before socialism was invented. They never saw why it was created. The problem in the US isn't a pinch of socialism here and there. It's the mismanagement of funds by the federal government. We need some social programs in this country.

Food / Polish vs. Chinese cuisine. It's all about a pig. [7]

Oh...a china pig is a glass pig. Maybe this pig looks like a glass pig made in Poland, where they make a lot of china? That's why this pig is the hallowed Poland China Pig?

It's an old breed of swine first bred in the Ohio Valley, USA. Guess someone thought it looked like their China Pig that was made in Poland and imported over here, so it got the name Poland China. China in this case most likely refers to glassware, not the country :)

News / WHY IS POLAND STILL GIVEN THE COLD SHOULDER? [197]

The problem with local artisans is that they don't produce very useful every day objects we need

You can find clothing, handbags, stuff like that. It's almost impossible to go local for everything. Honeybees are becoming extinct in the US. In a few years we will be importing all our honey.

This thread is wandering

I always try to spend my money close to home. But I also am not willing to spend twice as much for the exact same thing when it can be gotten cheaper.

People can import stuff and sell it a block away from where you live. If you are not patronizing local artisans, you are part of the problem and have no room to talk! Go to a crafting event and see if you can find some handmade items and buy them. Do an internet search to find locals in your area who sell what they make. That is how you cut down on massive imports from China and India. You also might find a higher quality product not loaded with formaldehyde or other toxic substances.

News / WHY IS POLAND STILL GIVEN THE COLD SHOULDER? [197]

Food chain, whilst you want your cheap handbag, there will always be some 6 year old Indian kid sewing the lining into it!

We need to be more cognizant of local artisans and stop buying the mass produced junk. Give your local artisans and craftsmen a try!

Consumer society gone mad..false economy..pay $50 for a pair of shoes they last a couple of months pay $150 and they last a couple of years! Same if pay £3,000 for a kitchen and it last (looking nice) for about a six months before the door handles start to fall off and the door hinges buckle..pay £10,000 and it looks lovely after 4 years...Trust me Ive seen cheap and Ive seen quality..

Well, ya, it would be nice if everyone took an across the board cut in paycheck. The recession would go away, then.

Every place on earth known for hard workers who do not get paid much has this same problem. They get used. So, what good does it do being this way? It's like the guy at work who does everything perfectly. He gets even more work and pretty soon he is doing all the work in the office while everyone sits there socializing.
