Love / 'Battered husbands' - still a taboo subject in Poland [387]

obviously you don't have children, or you don't think about the consequences for men IF they decide to hit back. The result will be that the man will not be allowed to see his children anymore. For me that is the ultimate injustice .

if the man hits a woman, he is violent. Why is he not allowed to see the children?

News / Poland and Kresy being reunited? [162]

Oh they did but only after you guys got scattered,

at the beginning yes, but once people got to know where they were, it was not the case anymore.

you intermarried

I don't know the statistics, but even those who did are still active in the Ukrainian circles.

there's maybe 10% of the pre-Vistula minorities that feel like you.

oh, no. every member of my family feels the same way as me and it is not an unusual at all. We also have some immigrants from Ukraine who settled in Poland, so the group is getting bigger in fact.

Thats to say im not an enemy of Ukraine or anything it was just too dangerous to have you guys bunched up in one place and supporting UPA.

those were the days, AK was supported by Polish population, it just made sense.

Life / Do Polish People steal a lot? [330]

Excuse me, by Poles?!

yes, what do you think happened to all those houses and businesses when Jews had to hide or were taken to concentration camps? They had to leave everything behind. It was war, so I don't really blame them, but to claim that Jews are the only one who steal( I was replying to Short Hair btw) is pure nonsense.

Pointing out the obvious, weren’t the Jews the ones that were accused of thievery themselves over the centuries. Ironic that some Jewish ar***** accuses Poles of it now, is it the case of (blame it on somebody else) that you talk about?

I don't follow you, please be more precise.

Gypsies....

oh, yah........of course:)

Don't you love the Polish anti-jew crap :)

I am bored with it to be honest, since there is no backup whatsoever in such conclusions. If anything, Jews were robbed, especially during the WW2, when they had to go into hiding, so people took whatever they had to leave behind.

Makes me laugh every time I hear the whole "all the Jews stole all our money".....so what happened after WWII, was there secret Jew colonies under the ground still doing it?

by then most Jewish were gone, so you have a point.

Problem with the Poles is that they can't admit to having their asses banged over :D

some def fit that category, I have heard it enough times and it appears that you have too.

Blame them, blame him, blame my neighbour, blame anyone as long as we can believe in the lie that it could never be our fault! Cry babies :D

Yes, even my family members are like that at times. If I question them they roll their eyes and say: it is your fault- incredible. lol

News / Poland and Kresy being reunited? [162]

that was not the reason why Vistula was carried in the fist place. It was done because the local population was supporting UPA ( a very strong hold in my family's village and some members of my family joined)and Poles had an easier way of handling it by removing the population. Also, it was easier to resettle Bieszczady with Poles, that way the Polish government could reinforce their power in that region.

I have to say that the attempts of Polonization did not work very well.

From Suwalskie region?

No, zachodnipomorskie region.

Take a trip to Ukraine, Lwów and Kiev are places to go.

I will, but I am more attached to the place my parents are from, Bieszczady and I made many trips there over the years.

To ty już bardziej Polak?:)

I don't think so, I don't feel Polish for obvious reasons. I am Ukrainian ethnically, born and raised in Poland. It is what it is. All my Polish friends are aware of my background. Then there is Canada connection. Life is good. This way I speak 3 languages, I am not complaining:)

Its no about my land is about Poland land!

my bad, I assumed that you were talking about your farm in Ukraine:(.

I know what you are saying, but......but how are you going to claim the Polish land from Ukraine in a practical way. I have a farm in Bieszczady, inquired if it was for sale (see I want to buy it back), but it is not.

good lack mate:)

News / Poland and Kresy being reunited? [162]

Well, it just speculation but is not an imminent problem.

so you have no clue how to do it, legally, you have no plan, you are a dreamer. Go and get your land, we will see how brave you are. This must be the most stupid thing I have read from you so far. It is a major problem if besides claiming your rights the the said land you have no idea how you gonna get it back. First, you have to have some legal proof that it belonged to your family.

Sadly we still lost our elite to WW2 but what we have is still head and shoulders above its Ukrainian counterpart

well, maybe that is not such a bad thing after all, but I can see the damage as a result in a way some Polish people think. What is wrong with eggs, we have eggs, you have Palikot - I don't see any difference.

Ukrainian nation as a wider idea is around for less then 150 years

150 years is enough in my opinion. I am curious what have Ukrainians hijacked, now I am curious.

It can lead to the collapse of your country in its current form, thats a huge problem by any account.

I am glad you worry, but if it collapses, Irons can claim his land;)

No, your country is doomed in its current form

well, it is what it is.

despite Convex' claims that heritage means nothing and its all about individuals.

convex was using US as a reference point and I agree that it could not be applied to Ukraine. I think what you think is heritage, is not heritage for him, still I am waiting for you to explain to me what Polish heritage is.

Whats the symbol that'd rally your people and provide unity?

many things, trust me, Ukrainians have a strong sense of identity.

Chmielnicki and Bandera are nothing but poor mans replacements, they wont do in the long term.

I really don't like to involve myself in speculations about that, different Ukrainians cherish different heros.

News / Poland and Kresy being reunited? [162]

Why? We did it to you guys (Ukrainians) once already, we basicallly hijacked your entire elite leaving you with a bunch of unwashed peasants, even today you dont have a real national elite.

that was not the style BB described. Nothing close to that. It is nice to dream of the past Soki, but you need to be more realistic.

Well, judging by the existing Polish elite maybe it is not such a bad thing. Middle class is the way to go these days. I hear "elite" all the time, but even during my visit in Poland, nor you are able to tell me what it means. The only elite in Poland is people who have money, or political power, the same goes for Ukraine - how would you know if you have never been there?

Rubbish, Ukraine is balancing on the brink of outright division

and it hasn't fallen apart yet.

Which is why Ukraine is so heavily divided and Crimea is practically a russian enclave?

I explained my opinion about it already, see no need to repeat it.

The problem with you Ukrainians is that when faced with an unsavory reality you make up another one

You don't know what the problems with Ukrainians is because you have never met any, have you?

Ukraine is unstable and divided but such observations are made by enemies of Ukraine

I never used the word "enemies".

Ukrainians greatest heritage is basically what Poles built and developed

because? I would like to remind you that Ukraine was under Russian state for the last 70 years, I know you are sentimental about Lviv and such, but Ukraine is much more then Lviv.

When you guys stop actively making things up to cover up your problems and inadequacies, then maybe you'll pull your sh*t together but for now you country is on the brink of collapse for years now.

you sing the same song and that means that you have nothing new to say. I merely said that the division of Ukraine is not as big of a problem as people think, economy however is much more problematic. Do you have any constructive advices to Ukraine, because I seem to be missing them in your posts:)

is there a big difference between TLK and InterRegio, other then like 20zl?

I would not know to be honest, since those are some new additions. I think it could be hit or miss, all depending on the quality of trains they have at the moment.

Is Interregio more expensive?

Study / Which Polish Universities are multilingual, and teach Psychology? [36]

I guess I'll be sending mails this week then.

e-mail is fine I think.

But Film and the First World War was easy peasy, great and interesting stuff and didn't need too much attention, plus you got to see loads of films as well :

I heard that psychology is a bit more demanding of the student, not that I am attempting to discredit what you have studied. You are obviously well educated.

News / Poland and Kresy being reunited? [162]

legally is tricky as Poland recognized Ukrainian state in 1991 but it could be done!

do tell:)

On a serious note, you have no clue how to do it, it is just a speculation.

A better, more logical and successfull plan

German way, but very smart, I am afraid Poles will not be able to pull it of since they are too emotional.

maybe the Ukrainians have to make up their minds which way they want to go as a people before.

maybe not. Ukrainians don't really have a problem with such situation, since they have lived with it for some time and it is their reality, however, for other countries Ukraine has to be in unison in order to be treated seriously. I think such observations are made by those who don't wish Ukraine well.

Ukraine is no more divided then Poland at the moment.

przemysl to wroclaw are "TLK" and "InterRegio" , both average around the same price a tkt (~80zl)

I rode on TLK 3 weeks ago, but on the different route (Szczecin - Warsaw). It was very safe, clean and AC was ON ( I know). The tickets were checked quite frequently. I felt very safe and the trip was very nice.

What I usually do when I pick a place to sit with people, who look safe eg. a nun, or a soldier. I know, but nobody is going to attack a nun, or a soldier. If there is lack of the latter, I would just find somebody in Przemysl who is going all the way to Wroclaw, so you can travel together.

enjoy!

To do so, Poland need to tidy up her internal affairs !

build safe roads first.

First of all there large group of Poles who have rights to homes, land and so on -

they legally don't, unless I am misinformed.

Study / Which Polish Universities are multilingual, and teach Psychology? [36]

I don't have to tell you that the Zloty is about four times weaker, so studying in Poland might save me a lot of money.

fair enough, but getting a degree at home is probably worth the trouble because of the university rankings.

A way to find out is to write to every university in Poland with the psychology dep and ask them.

Really? Every society has a certain portion of the population willing to cheat, steal and lie; the difference is that ours had learned their trade from the best, you know - Jews for whom economic reasons is not even a factor, it’s in their nature.

yah, blame it on somebody else. I wonder what would happen to Poles if there were no Jews to blame for Polish shortcoming? I bet they would blame another nation or a group.

They were notorious for that amongst Germans and Scots, Wrocław. My wife is just describing a stealing story to me. She believes Poles are awful for this. Also, they are still Poles, Wrocław. Mafia or otherwise. 'The Poles' is a FAR more diverse term than anyone here seems to conceive.

sure they were, but in order to bring balance to the conversation in the US a car is stolen every 26 seconds.

Why the need for it to be reinstalled then? You made it quite clear what was expected of authorized dealer as part of the procedure to fix the problem in your rant.

according to the dealership in Poland, not according to the dealership in Canada, where it was fixed for free in 5 minutes.

You know, ASSUME - making an ass-out-of-U-and-me.

it is a human trait, everybody assumes:)

Overcharging is stealing in my books too

well, then we agree on something, in this case the Polish dealership wanted to charge me tons of money while the local did not.

Take it up with the corporation

I will for sure. I am not that easily fooled when it comes to service, be it in Poland or Canada.

Honest business if you ask me, if they didn’t you would accuse them of software piracy.

what are you talking about? The software was not necessary at all, why would Apple dealership be accused of stealing its own software anyways and why would authorized dealership charge me for a part, which was faulty anyways?

Was I questioning him?

not literally, no there was no question mark, but that was your intention since you clearly doubted his statement.

How would you know where I live?

I assumed that you don't live in Poland, do you?

You know what they say about assuming?

they- like who?

Honest business if you ask me, if they didn’t you would accuse them of software piracy.

if I asked you, but I did not. The part was faulty, therefore should have been fixed for free.
Overcharging is stealing in my books.
