USA, Canada / US Polonia 70% for Kaczyński [343]

A sad fact is that only PiS seems to be able gather some support.

No they did not. They lost the elections big time.

Look at Rydzyk for a great example

I did not hear rydzyk in the election campaign....Did he fall in a geothermal hole in Toruń, or was his busy counting his money?

most people are idiots and that the fact, democracy in the present form doesn't works, not only in Poland.

Looking at the voting by US Polonia, I could agree with you on that point completely :)

News / Tusk wants to privatize PKP Cargo. [38]

Of course there is - people like me would like to be in Warsaw in less than 2 hours without having to fly.

I still do not agree with you. Sure, great, Warsaw-Poznań in 90 minutes - for the fat cats who will be able to pay for these tickets. Mr Kowalski will be relegated to the second-class trains because they are not profitable.

A massive improvement for who exactly? For the same fat cats. The money spent on these Polish TGV could be spent on a massive overhaul of the existing network.

News / Tusk wants to privatize PKP Cargo. [38]

I agree. What Poland needs is to get the present network up to date. Who cares if getting from Warsaw to Kraków is done in 3 hours or 2,5?

McDo will in any case have no idea where he is going to.

What matters is getting ordinary Polish people from A to B in a reasonable time. 8 hours from Warsaw to Gdynia is not the good thing to do :). Pan Kowalski has priority, big time.

Commuter lines should have priority. The fat ones can always go LOT.

Travel / NOT COMING TO KRAKOW- KEEP IT! [30]

Since when are expat sites "real world" ? Go to Kraków, you will love it. Walk through town, have a beer on the Rynek (and yes IYP will tell you it is too touristy, but what the heck), walk with your loved one through the Planty...Visit some of the amazing museums...admire the Flemish tapestries in Wawel...

And avoid at all price all expat haunts :)

News / PIS propaganda on Warsaw public transport [27]

Oh yes I do. Longing for the świętokrzyskie brigade, are you? As probably half of these US Polonia people are doing (I was going to write Polacks, but this seems to be discriminating)

News / Tusk wants to privatize PKP Cargo. [38]

I do not care one *** if a fat Anerican gets from Warsaw to Kraków in 2 hours, 3 hours, or hopefully never. What matters is that PKP should perform a decent local service. Pan Kowalski after having worked all day in some Warsaw office, has the democratic right to get home by WKD/SKM/KM... whatever. And in a decent time. Invest in local connections, they will not get a return on investment. But hey, the Wall Street sharks did not get it either, may they rot in hell. Local railways serve the community. That is what matters in the end. Any SGH analyst should be shot now and then.

News / Tusk wants to privatize PKP Cargo. [38]

As for the passenger side of things - PKP Intercity is potentially very profitable, if only they were allowed to get rid of half of the trains

I do not agree. It is fundamentally wrong to keep only the profitable side of the business. All yhe branch lines, all the commuter trains...they also matter. Many towns depend (or rather live or die) on the commuter trains stopping there. That is where the EU got it wrong as well. And yes if Pan Kowalski after work has to get home at the 22:30 to the place he lives, this should be honored.

Because it goes like this: Posh IC trains make profit, grubby commuter trains do not. But these commuter trains move the backbone of the country. And yes they do not make a złoty. Must PKP only exist to move fat American tourists between Warsaw and whatever city they have no idea about?

No.

American Polonia has already started voting - I think they are laughing at you.

They all are voting for Dmowski, because they have no idea the world moved on :)

News / PIS propaganda on Warsaw public transport [27]

Yes I am allowed to do so very much. I live here for ages, pay my taxes and ZUS here faithfully. So much more than your average bigoted US Polonia member.

I see the real Poland everyday, and I do not think PIS should be part of that.

News / PIS propaganda on Warsaw public transport [27]

How about you tell us what it said?!?

Actually I speak Polish. "Wolność i Gospodarka" was written on it.
For the same matter, I think no political party should be allowed to campaign on public transport.
And as a EU citizen I can only vote in European and local elections. (EU legislation).

News / PIS propaganda on Warsaw public transport [27]

Today I saw in a tramway here in Warsaw PIS propaganda. No leaflets but fixed to the wall. I think that is completely unacceptable, public transport is a neutral place, isn't it?

Law / Staying in Schengen - are American exempt from the 90-days-in/90-days-out rule? [23]

It has to be painful for all your Americans to be treated here in Poland as all other non-EU citizens :)
Think about how we Europeans are treated in JFK or any other border crossing. (even when we need no visa), and even worse how Polish people are treated when they need a visa for the US. As criminals.

Which exception you think you are entitled to?
P.S. I was last year at Długa 5 on my way to the EU section (waiting time approx. 15 minutes) when I passed the non-EU legion including some yanks protesting "why they had to wait so long". It made my day, big time.

Life / How much money did you spend today in Poland and what did you spend it on? [33]

Just spent 60 PLN going with our cat to the vet and he (the cat) was not even grateful for it :))). Also renewed my "Karta Miejska" which set me back another 90 PLN. But good value for money I think. Not the cat :)

My wife is at the hairdresser now, and I am positively convinced she will refuse to tell me how much she spent on it :)
My hairdresser charges me 20 PLN by the way.

History / 1920 Battle of Warsaw - English trailer and film [55]

All my friends who saw it, told me it is a disappointment. Surprising because Jerzy Hoffman is a good director. But this is from hearsay. Anyway, I hate 3D :)

Life / Expats/Immigrants in Poland: Needy, Greedy or contributor. Which one are you? [118]

Not true. I gave up a stable 17-year job in Belgium to come to Poland because my wife simply refused to emigrate. Nothing to do with "needy". Would "love" do perhaps?

I am not interested in expat haunts here in Warsaw...A good way to do that is NOT to go to the places InYourPocket propagates :)
