News / Poland's universities go up in world rankings [23]

Only that I would be suspicious of a German survey that found all the world's top ten universities to be located in German speaking countries.

It's because English speaking countries have easier access to English scientific journals. But it's justified, because scientists who ignore these publications are not real scientists.

There is a world universities ranking from Leiden university in Netherlands They used this opportunity to position this university as the best in the country, by still only 58th place and American universities are taking most of top 50 again: leidenranking.com/ranking

And about Polish universities getting better. It looks rather like fluctuation:

University of Warsaw Rankings
2013 37.8 338=
2012 31.35 398
2009 39.26 349
2008 39.2 342=
2007 39.2 345=

Study / Tips/advice for an Erasmus student in Lodz [10]

You can rent a room (shared even) but will still cost you around 300ZL.
So now you are down to 900ZL for living the rest of the month + a phone bill probably + transportation etc.

Prepaid in Play mobile 20zł per month, transportation = 2nd hand bike for one time 200zł, self cooking for 500zł per month and it's doable.

You might also want to travel around Poland a little, and with a budget of 1200ZL pr. month, that will be very tough..

Yes. With this budget only hitchhiking or promotions with PolskiBus.com (cheap prices when booked 2 months in advance, few connections from £ódź)

Law / Unable to get a work permit for Poland (not EU-citizen) [40]

naive? My ancestors were french, my native language is french, why shouldn't I be allowed to live in France? . You were the one implying that none should ever be allowed to come to live to Europe specially to Poland if they are not EU citizens.

You come from the county which is taking the most immigrants (in relation to the population) in the world (or is top 5). The country which gives work permits based of factors like language knowledge, education, experience. It's not the same in all european countries. Because of your background, your view about how things should be is obfuscated. Most of the countries in the world don't have such easy and big immigration policy as Canada. Look at population growths chars of Canada and France. There is reason why it is like that. And it's not because nobody wants to immigrate to France.

I don't know about French immigration policy but immigrants to Poland don't get any extra points for having Polish ancestors, except if they were parents or few grandparents.

Study / Tips/advice for an Erasmus student in Lodz [10]

According to:

"Consumer Prices Including Rent in Lodz are 32.10% lower than in Lisbon"
Should be enough if you're going to rent a room, not apartment.

Only cappuccino, oranges and wine is cheaper in Lisbon.

No. the country doesn't know it better. If it would, then why are so many young People in Poland just leaving the country? .Poland has many people just surviving with an extremely low wage.

That's exactly why it's harder to get a job in Poland than in Germany. There is less good payed jobs in Poland. That's why people are leaving to Germany. When you try doing opposite = immigrating to Poland, then it must be harder, as you're swimming upstream. And you should blame the company which gave you the offer. They simply didn't know how to do paperwork or found EU worker while doing that. You can read on this forum proves that out of EU foreigners come to Poland and get jobs.

Life / How is the acceptation of foreigners in Poland? [29]

So rather than the OP implying that Poland needs to assure him that she will be a good host it is OP and others like him who need to be demonstrating that they will be a well behaved guest.

He's just asking.

Life / Is 10500 monthly is enough for a family to live in Warsaw Poland [136]

I think you're making one big mistake, typical for foreigners in Poland - you believe what Poles tell you when it comes to salaries. Poles are utter liars in my experience when it comes to talking about money - pretending to be poor is almost a national sport here

No, he probably mistook gross with net.

Monitor I am with H on this one, you live in Germany so you have zero understanding of life in Waw so please stop commenting on this thread. Sur and her family are making a life decision and want to be as consice as possible, Sur there is an indian communiy in Waw, I know some of them send me me pm with your email and I will forward. Good luck with the move.

You better relate to what I wrote and not go personally. I wouldn't feel comfortable sticking out of the crowd just because the color of my skin. Of course Warsaw is more cosmopolitan than any other Polish city, but such live I wouldn't call comfortable.

Life / How is the acceptation of foreigners in Poland? [29]

If you are caucasian race then people should be friendly to you. If your appearance differs a lot from a Pole then you may hear comments, staring or even attacks occasionally

Life / Is 10500 monthly is enough for a family to live in Warsaw Poland [136]

It seems your understanding of aesthetics is simply an advanced term for beauty and attractiveness

You're right that design and functionality is not bad, but attractiveness and beauty of architecture especially suburbs is really random. I had no opportunity to live in Warsaw, but when passing through with a car it's quite ugly view. Especially in winter.

Life / Is 10500 monthly is enough for a family to live in Warsaw Poland [136]

if the agency states "The gross salary would be 15.000 PLN / month, and the net salary: 10.518 PLN" then I believe its just enough to spend a comfortable life in city like Warsaw.

It depends. According to warszawski it's not enough, but according to Matt1234 it's enough.
