Work / From the USA, is it hard to study in Poland? [44]

Are Universities in Poland really *that* bad?

it is not that they are bad, they don't score high in rankings, however based on my own experience- they have a log way to go.

Unless one studies medicine or dentistry and wants to remain within the EU borders, they are fine, but the OP is from the US - with a very different education system and if he ever decided to return to the US, he might have a hard time.

He should do a research as to what degrees are seeked in the US and they make a choice.

News / New cross war in Warsaw [530]

hit the nail of the head.

How about going to the church with a hangover- that has been done many times before.

I recall some Midnight mass, where one could smell alcohol for miles. Why kick the drinkers out of church, if priests are allowed to drink wine during the mass anyways. That is not fair.

News / New cross war in Warsaw [530]

It's about tolerance. It goes both ways, you know.

of course it does, so RCC and its believers will have to stop judging those who are not.

If you are not a member - why do you care?

I have Polish friends who share the same concern. I made an observation.

It's always fascinating to me that the most vocal opponents of church policies are not the members.

I am not most vocal in that regard. Yet, RCC fanatics should be more accommodation to the rest of RCC members who don't share their view, or do you thing that all of them should be expelled from the church- in that case RCC, will loose a significant number of its members.

So spare me your fake concern.

this is a public forum, not a Catholic one, therefore all opinions are relevant.

So what?

let me rephrase: there are a lot of people, members of RCC who don't follow this boarding on fanatism line.

News / New cross war in Warsaw [530]

As I said before
Bzibzioh:
It is divided between people who feel morally superior and people who feel intellectually superior. And some professional Church bashers, like Harry, who use the opportunity to have dig at the church.
Plus babcias venting frustration and wanting to settle scores.

so the morally superior are the church goers and the intellectually superior are the new Polish class, such as journalists, non- church goers new better of class, part of young generation who does not feel attached neither to church, not pro- communism sentiments when everybody was equal and so on.

As for professional church bashers, I think those people are not interested in the RCC to have their life dictated. There is no obligation in Poland to be an active member of the church. Some people are not very happy with the way RCC is trying to influence the political life in Poland as of late. Another issue is that Polish RCC is not very progressive and accommodating to the changing needs of its believer, so yah......there will be a lot of people who will not be happy with the attempt to morally control people.

News / New cross war in Warsaw [530]

That is what I said:)

It's not about money at all.

News / New cross war in Warsaw [530]

I think that babcias are not fully responsible for "the cross war", not the "moherowe berety" since those two groups do not formally exist, but are part of a group of people who have little voice in contemporary Poland. Therefore such people would seek the church groups, Catholic Youth groups, Radio Maryja etc- who are all accommodating their need to be heard, since with the development democracy in Poland some groups were left behind for deferent reasons. Also, some of these people have spare time on their hands if they are retired and little money, or not enough money to still enjoy their retirement. Even if they do, they give it to their children, or grandchildren, instead of enjoying their retired life.

Also, other there are groups of people in Poland, who are still professionally active, but due to their luck of ability to make money in the new capitalist Poland are simply frustrated. Add high taxes, high costs of running the business, hight cost of living and you have a large number of dissapointed citizens, who see how their quality of life is decreasing.

I think it is less about the cross and more about the general dissatisfaction of some Polish citizens. I also think that part of the Polish society who turned back to church feels a sense of belonging, regardless of the obvious RCC attempts to manipulate this need to its own advantage.

(babcias in retirement homes and that'll be the end of it

well, they don't want to go there since they are still socially active and don't want to be separated from the society because they are old- being old is not a sentence is Poland, as I might say in is is some of the Western countries IMO.

Then you have a person like Bzibi, who thinks that RCC is untouchable and she is perfectly comfortable with refusing any discussion about it, since it is NOT her level of argument, even if her own church starts using the symbol of the cross in a political debate.

My bad, I take my accuses of hipocrisy back.

you have no other choice.

But still I dont think there was anything abusive or derogatory in my suggestion to you about using brain before posting.

It is practically impossible to switch of the brain before, during and after posting in my opinion.

Please deal with Amethyst, I have never talked to you in the past and I intend to keep it that way.

It seems that you not only have trouble with using your brain, but you are also hipocrite. On page 3 in this thread you called me an idiot.

why such hostility? Do you have serious issues with women too. How is that my problem?

PF rules:

please don't do it again, or I will report you.

Like Fiebert?

no, like Makow.

Your mangina friend couldn't.

I have no mangina friends, I don't even know what it means.

Anything you disagree with is a "conspiracy" even by the many women authors who have seen the light.

not true, Makow is a conspiracy theorist and I don't consider people like him an unbiased source of information. Check his background before saying anything, unless you believe that he is suitable. For many posters he is not, including me.

Barney might be onto something when he called you on your pretense.

She has not contributed to this thread except to deride those who have. That may be the definition of a "fine poster" to you but then you have that subjective "liberal gaze" which stunts real growth.

I will if you stop providing sources written by conspiracy theorist lol. I got nothing to work with.

And in order to join a Polish Uni in those days I assume you were required to speak Polish.

that would make sense, since I have not come across in let's say Polish justification for that action that those students insisted on speaking Yiddish.

History / Endecja - State Sponsored Anti Semitism 1935 - 1939. [138]

* most of jews (75-80%) hardly spoke in polish. of course - the learned onlyhistory of palestine... after 700 years (!)...

so how do you explain that 1/3 of students at Polish unis were Jewish, which in my eyes was an attempt to join the Polish community, only to be told that they have to sit on the left side of the classroom?

Good question. Any Dutch you ask will admit that there was a National Socialist Movement in NL in the 1930's and during the war, as will any Belgian, French, Norwegian and so on. Some Poles however, deny and I am curious as to why that is.

is it possible that many people simply don't know the facts, so they fill the space with speculations and their own interpretation of the history. You need to understand that for the 50 years during the communist Poland the history was not presented in an objective light at all (including Jewish and Polish history), therefore you can see the result of it on PF so often. Most people don't know the history of Jews in Poland for those reasons alone.

Again I repeat, can you provide evidence for your position that a Feminist agenda dominates society in general and the Media in particular. Any links you have posted have been to Blogs or "opinion sites" or on previous occasions to "Crank" sites.

I am interested.

History / Endecja - State Sponsored Anti Semitism 1935 - 1939. [138]

nice try boys, but I looked at the link BB provided and there was rampant anti- semitism in Poland during that time, which also happened to be the time when Endecja was in, whether Endecja had anything to do with it or not is not relevant in my opinion, but some anti- semitism has been generated within that organization, which spread out, or, as I would like to see it, was expressed by some Endecja members. The fact is, that at one point, the Jewish student body at Polish universities amounted to 1/3 and those were the people who were "segregated" on benches during that time.

Why deny the facts?
