Life / Catholic "Telewizja Trwam" from Poland - your thoughts? [98]

Rydzyk is running a business. Thing is his customers are poor pensioners who believe his marketing tricks and contribute their meager pensions to his empire.

I remember he sold mobile phones for his own network - aimed at old-age people. Does this network still exist? And then there was the episode with the TV decoders.

Cyfra+ also sells decoders, and Orange mobile phones. But they are genuine commercial outfits.
Rydzyk pretends to be a priest and to represent the "True Poland". But in reality he is a "money-shark".

Travel / Traveling within Poland into my destination city - Lublin (from Warsaw airport) [43]

I have taken 175 over all these years very often, without any problems. As for taxis from the airport...there are three corporations officially sanctioned to operate from the airport. Outside arrivals a steward is arranging all this. Do not accept an "offer" from the gits in the arrival lounge. Sharks, all of them. Yes they have some kind of self made badge "taxi" or something like that. Gangsters.

175 to city center costs 3,60 PLN :)

Travel / OLT Jetair (flight to Wroclaw) [38]

Did anybody on this forum already flew domestic with OLT? Their prices are really OK... Flying to Wrocław 50 minutes instead of 6 hours by train....

Travel / Traveling within Poland into my destination city - Lublin (from Warsaw airport) [43]

70 PLN from Dworzec Centralny to the airport? That is definitely a rip-off. I live on the northern outskirts of Warsaw, and I am paying between 50-60 PLN to the airport with MPT (which is not the cheapest corporation). Bus 175 is IMO safe, and not that much slower as a taxi. They will stand in the same traffic jam on Zwirki i Figury.

Besides I I think Warsaw public transport is very safe.

Travel / Kopernik Centre - worth visiting? [13]

Has anybody on this Forum been to the Kopernik Centre? Whenever I have visitors and I want to go there with them, there are impossible long queues... On the other hand I heard it is highly overrated and at most an attraction for kids... I cannot have an opinion on this one, because I have not been there yet.

So is it worth the waiting time & impressions?
For a high-tech centre as this you should be able to buy tickets on-line though.

Food / The 12 dishes of Poland on Christmas Eve. [51]

I wonder how many Poles are still doing the 12 dishes. I am very happy that 1. My mother-in-law does not like karp, so we had salmon. 2. That I managed to introduce a glass of wine :).

One thing I like very much is "opłatek", this is a very nice tradition.
P.S. Are there any Poles who eat karp on any other day of the year? I doubt it.

Language / Difference between wise and intelligent in Polish [30]

For me somebody who is intelligent is perfectly capable of not being wise.
Again, in Polish I do not see one word describing "wise". "Mądry" for me refers to me to education.

Translate: A easy way to get into Schengen and the EU. I thought that lately India was the leading light on this globe? Perhaps not, then ?

Work / Working in Poland - Logistics, procurement, imports-exports [12]

I ve seen some adds in hays.pl that for ex. require greek, or italian or russian or hebrew speakers. Does anybody have any idea on their reliability and subject of working?

That would be mainly for call center jobs. You might try Accenture. They have all the time jobs posted for native speakers - with no Polish required.

I know a few people here in Poland who started their life in Poland with working for them.

Travel / Restaurant reviews in Poland. [86]

Very funny to see how the contents of IYP restaurant reviews change. Classics here in Warsaw such as the Boathouse are suddenly not anymore mentioned...Samira also vanished....Namaste...as well. I guess the editors did not get any freebies anymore :).

Also, places which IYP praises into the sky, such as Legends, Fish&Chips, Warsaw Tortilla Factory get on Polish forums and in Polish reviews (non-expat) a very cool reception.

Food / Where to buy seafood in Warsaw? [8]

That is why I can recommend this outfit. They are much more expensive as any supermarket, but the smell emanating from the Carrefour fish counter in Arkadia (which I suppose could be one of the better ones)...

Food / Where to buy seafood in Warsaw? [8]

I recently discovered (when I was looking for mussels) a great shop called Le Maree. Mussels were top quality, unfortunately the price was also top :)

Anyway I recommend it for prime quality fish and seafood.

Law / Applying for Polish citizenship through marriage. [116]

Why would you want to become Polish? This is not to say that there is anything wrong with being Polish, but why not just get the Staly Pobyt and be done with the paperwork for 10 years. What's the advantage to being Polish other than the benefits it would give you in the EU?

If you are EU there is no added value - apart from being able to vote in national elections -. If you are not EU, well any backdoor to the EU is very welcome, isn't it? But why not try the Portuguese entrance?

Food / Availability of salceson (Polish-style brawn/headcheese)? [5]

I like salceson quite a lot. In my native Flanders head meat is popular as well. But fact is there is a big difference in quality and taste. Here in Warsaw about every meat shop has its version.

Law / What are chances for Poland to join in Eurasian Economic Community? [100]

obviuously u dont read history or a short wrap up at wiki. do so. that what u call yugoslavia was an idea but NOT a country after ww1. that country was as i quoted above kingdom of serbs, croats and slovenians.

that what came out of the kingdom after ww2 was then the state AND the idea of yugoslavia.

Yes I do read history. Yugoslavia as it was known after WWII was the same after the Versailles creation in 1919. I am not talking here about political and ethnographically differences. Still it requires some genuine madness to think that its 1919 creation is because of some imaginary Serb/Polish/elite initiative.

As far as I know Wilson, Clemenceau and Lloyd George were not serbian?
As being Slavs...Poles are not serbs. They are West Slavonic, shared with their Sorb, Slovak and Czech neighbors. They share a common Western inheritance, a common set of values and a common, if checkered, history. A common Roman-Catholic inheritance. What do Poles have in common with serbs?

Law / What are chances for Poland to join in Eurasian Economic Community? [100]

wrong. its was called after ww1 Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes what after ww2 ended up in YU.

Wrong. First time the term "Yugoslavia" was officially used was in 1929.
The first name was only a name. In effect it was the same state. Nothing to with some Polish/Serbian elite
The entity, whatever its name, was a creation of Versailles.
And a "Balkan Federation". It is just that. Since when does Poland belong to the Balkan?
Poland is part of Mitteleuropa and as such of Western European civilization.
