News / Which French candidate for president will be best for Poland? [512]

Why is Poland importing Natural Gas from USA while everyone else is riding the Nord Streams.

Not to be depended on Russian ore - that is simple to comprehend.

Poland is violating EU rules, while taking advantage of the EU to undercut French businesses.@ delphiandomine

What rules? The deal was very simple - Poland opens her marked to French (amongst others) in exchange for few perks. So far Frenchies made a shitload of money in Poland including their state companies - that can change and pronto if that dumb Frog doesn't like it!

is this guy retarded?

you tell me! He married his teacher from a nursery or high school matters not. He is not normal that for sure, plus he came from French plutocracy that dude never had to work for living. A ***** slap would do wonders for his mental state.

Law / Lviv born. Can Polish ancestry be claimed? [34]

The only distinction was religion

No, the main distinction was religion. In fact even that is only a superficial difference - Ukrainian ethnicity is so fresh out of the box that if you relax criteria half of the Ukraine would be able to claim Polish cintziship if not more. Let them declare for Poland en masse and then they can join Poland with the territory they live on.

Otherwise no way Jose.

History / Polish-Hungarian border exchange? [60]

Yes, you have been robbed Treaty of Trianon and all that. I get it.
Poland has been robbed by Soviets quite recently.
To my mind Poland and Hungary have no territories claims against each other and both countries have much to gain to keep it like that.

The EU has always been a club of selfish nation states. Solidarity only works as long as the Germans pay, so don't blame them if they call the shots.

Pay what they pay? The way the Germans F... up Greece making them take on more debts and austerity measures so they could collect money around The EU countries just so the Greece gov. could pay their debt plus interest to the German banks?
Don't be absurd. What solidarity? There is no solidarity in the EU. Those countries should just send those people back to whence then came from rather than listen to some PC or other BS.

Law / Poland three year residency [30]

a double standard regarding English for too long!

Who are you kidding Lzyko? The overwhelming majority of so called native speakers do not adhere to any recognizable standards, different accent, regional and national differences, in vocabulary, pronunciation and oft grammar to some extent.

"Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, Donne, Sir WIlliam S. Gilbert, Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Emily Dickinson" Your average native speakers wouldn't have a clue about most of their works, many wouldn't even recognize most of those names. Fix it before you have a go at 'international' speakers of English.

Some people mastered English better than others - that is all than can be said on the subject without divulge too many off topic details.

the sense that native speakers would not produce them

Is there any sense in talking about errors in such a case? Sometimes errors become a norm.

History / The Piast dynasty is of non-Slavic origin? Latest DNA findings suggest Germanic or Celtic [11]

Really, Ironside, your usual ranting often seems

In your mind which cannot be regarded as much because you're usually focuses on people here and you're in habit of writing about them. First of all those are only posters with monikers. Second your little passion is not much different from the general ranting that goes on here.

I went right to the point and asked questions if you didn't notice. I didn't say anything about you dimwit. So what gives?

be aimed at showing people on the PF what a smart ass you are

I don't care what 'people' on PF think about me. I don't think about them beside the content of their posts or their erroneous views on issues.

It arises from not reading posts carefully enough.

I read them well enough. You made it murky so I have asked questions. My doubts arose not from what that specialist said because he and I are saying basically the same but from what you have written. Which I presume are your 'free' speculations. Those in turn gave a rise to misinterpretation and misunderstanding expressed in the posts above by other posters.

Yep, that info about ongoing research is interesting. Good.

History / The Piast dynasty is of non-Slavic origin? Latest DNA findings suggest Germanic or Celtic [11]

Really? How does it work? After so many dynastic marriages its rich suggesting some non local origin.

The R1b haplogroup is often called Celtic or Atlantic

Is that R1b1a or R1b1b?
By the way R1b had been found in the oldest remains (7000 years old) that belonged to a hunter of the Samara culture of the Volga River area. Generally speaking it is believed that haplogroup signifies Pontic Steppes origin.

Which tell us that is all theory and need to be a specialist to get into business of drawing far fetched conclusions.

If you genuine looking for the info or some kind of advice or assurance here - I advice you to change your attitude!

History / Polish-Hungarian border exchange? [60]

Well, nothing wrong with it but we are talking here about a relatively small, insignificant mountains region with predominantly polish populace. Is not worth of the effort and money needed to get it.

History / Polish-Hungarian border exchange? [60]

This statement is not right.

Look here Fehervary. That is a matter of opinion. You do realize that in such matters legal, juris and rights or whatnot is mostly a political issue with different people/sides having different views and standing on issues.

In this particular case the issue is murky at best and no nearly a clearly cut as you imply.
I'm honestly surprised that such a small territories would even be worthy to rise it as an issue. There is no Hungarian minority there and never has been - so what gives?

First you would have to regain Slovakia - which is at the present is not a very likely.
Second those territories are inhabited with people who own properties there.
Third I don't know exactly the way of the land there but it could be that for strategically reason those territories are important to Poland's interest.

Fourth - you are talking about pre-war border - you're awe that those territories where exchanged not given to Poland.

Meaning there are few conditions that need to be met first:
1,Hungary in a permanent position of Slovakia.
2, Territories exchanged.
3. An ample compensation paid - that could be a quite a sum.
Summary - by the time you fulfil the first condition you might find that you cannot be bothered to go into all those trouble and expenses just because some Hungarian pouring over historical maps has an OCD.

You make no sense dawg! No politically, not strategically. Unless we're talking about huge oil or gold deposits.

Life / Why are Muslims seen as a deterrent to Poland? [564]

The point is as I have already said that Islam is not compatible with the western or European civilization - whatever you would like to call it.

Transplanting a large groups of Muslim into those countries is asking for trouble or brewing trouble for various reasons - that is semi-evident.
Seemingly only commies or progressives which is basically the same have this notion that they can by throwing at Muslim money, privileges and brainwashing education to concoct some kind of Islam light - basically the same niche that have for Christianity and they are so dumb and full of themselves that think that can pull it off. Meaning they like Muslim because they have a common enemy - w western civilization. That is it. Nothing more to it.

Whereas if we want to talk about merits and follows of the Islam there is plenty to go around. In fact Islam has many flaws. For example there is no one who can condemn( provided someone would want to do it) terrorist attacks from the point of view of the Islam because there would be plenty of those who condone them and their actions. All those voices count the same in Islam.

Any looser with problems and issues can go out with the bang taking with him as many non Muslim as he can, and is assured that he'll go to heaven by the Islam. That is a main stream Islam not some firings. So, yes if the Islam the way it is can be hold responsible for terrorist attacks - indeed to a large degree it can.

Muslim countries are some of the poorest in the world.

Some Muslim countries other Muslim countries count as the richest in the world.

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

People few noteworthy numbers:
- a size of Europe about four million square miles.
- a size of Africa about 12 four million square miles.
- a size of Asia about 17 million square miles.
What has a number of people to do with all that immigration? Answer not much.

The population density of Europe is about 105 people per square km.
Africa about 42 people per square km.
Asia about 143 people per square km.

Now there are Gulf states closer to all those places that so called refugees come from. Those states are much more wealthy than Europe or even any given nation in Europe. Yet, somehow regardless of your 'logic' they don't go there.

Refugees go to Europe ( Germany )for the following reasons:
- they have info that they can get a house, a car and money for free.
- Border control or the way it works due to some ideology allows to cross and stay all who came knocking. I mean those who have no passport, claim to be a refugee or has a dark skin color. If you're white have your papers in order you are being scanned, checked and photographed ten times before you're allowed to travel from a point A to B. WTF? Shortly they'll demand your blood and urine samples as well.

- they get a generous welfare allowances for free - in the age of the internet they communicate that fact to their friends and family.

Solution is simple:
- all and sundry illegals crossing borders should be apprehend, stopped and returned to the first country they came from. In those few genuine cases some refugee camps should be build on the shores of African or some isles there.

All those boats, used to smuggle illegals - should be confiscated and sunken. Oohrah!

There is no too many people. There is too many fools. Inept, corrupt systems or lack of any decent government whatsoever. Exploration of the solar system for example.

The secret is to use all ingenuity and resources of the human race with care and for good causes.
That panicking about number of people stared in England in the 19th or 18th century while there was about four millions inhabitants if the isles. Some people are freaking out today (like 300 or 200 years later). Also that strange notion had been picked up by some weird individuals across the globe. Well, I'm not fair. By some people with too much time on their hands who worry too much about all sorts of useless of things.

Now what they are up to? "The Telegraph" on Friday 31 March 2017 (should be the first of April) telegraphed -
"New report shows immigration from outside Europe over the Labour government years cost the public purse billions of pounds, while recent migration from inside Europe generated a Ł4 billion surplus."

Ah come on. Your average John or Harry doesn't care about such a detail. Most of the EU people should move from Britain in my opinion. Instead they can have a controlled immgrnacion and closer economic cooperation with the Commonwealth countries not Canada, Austria or New Zealand as people like tic tack seems to think but with Pakistan, India and Nigeria - nothing wrong with it. There where all the riches like ores, including oil lie, and there is surplus of people with a close cultural ties to Britain. Booyah!

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

Not point in guessing and dwelling on the future. To be honest none can predict what will happen. Its possible that between 200 000 to 500 000 Poles can be forced in one way or other to leave. Even on in the span of a few years. Working visas could be introduced or whatnot.

That debate is just dabbling in an unknown.
@gergy - people should be sorting themselves out realistically not waiting for some pacts, acts and bills.
If you absolutely must live in the uk apply for their passport if you qualify, if not - tough luck. Look for an alterative or just wait for what will happen - no need to worry about things beyond your control.

Afraid Poland is going to be Germany's ***** now

Whose ***** are you sunshine? Such rudeness and ignorance phew? Poland survived without British help and doesn't need it. Worry about yourself and don't do Poland any favors. Politics is about business. Europe is dominated by the German economy for some time already, all Britain had been doing about it was participating in it by eating her slice of a cake in a form of banking and financial services.

The free ride is over princess.

What are you even talking about is hard to fathom. You must be living in some weed fuelled dream.

@DominicB
"Bluzka also means a men's sweatshirt"
I'm sorry but you're mistaken. You must have "bluza" in mind, not quite the same thing as "bluzka".
"The English word is changing again to mean just about any kind of informal women's top."
That is exactly what "bluzka" means in Polish.

Language / Polish - Absolute Beginner Questions. Study plan. [75]

Not to nitpick, but "bluzka" means "sweatshirt", and "blouse" means "koszula damska z guzikami".

Not to rain on your parade. You meant to say "women sweatshirt". No, "bluzka" means "blouse". There is often a very small difference between "koszula damska" and "blzuka" in everyday use of the Polish language. Origin of the word is the same in both languages - French.

News / Berlin terrorist attack -- Poland's ethnic homogeneity a true blessing [436]

But the point is that not ALL Catholics are IRA terrorists any more than ALL Muslims are "soldiers of ISIS"

No, the point is that is a false analogy. IRA had nothing to do with religion. ISIS feeds on religion and their main aim is religious. Political too but in Islam those two are interweaved.

More like progressives from whom their ideology and dogmas are interweaved with politicks. There are huge similarites between leftie ideologies and Islam than between other religions.

No, to people who commented above and whose argument is as follow - hey Catholics are doing it (were doing it) too!
Well, lefties were/are even worse - all that Sendero Lumninoso, Rote Armee Fraktion, Brigate Rosse, Black Panther, United Freedom Party, Weather Underground Organization. BLM and many others leftie organizations than continues today.

News / Berlin terrorist attack -- Poland's ethnic homogeneity a true blessing [436]

Really? That is your comparison? To troubles in NI? Those troubles has been of different nature, that one side is so called 'Catholic' has been purely coincidental and religion has little to do with their cause. Name me a one item on their agenda that pertained to religion. If you can't you're clearly a fool and should use that opportunity to be quiet.

@lenka 'if I was killed in a terrorist a..'
This is not about you. Anyhow you would be dead and no one would care what you think.

@lenka "Catholics are as capable of doing it as Muslims."
The difference is that religion tell to the Catholics that killing innocents is a sin and as a result one can to hell. Whereas religion tells Muslims that killing unbelievers is the surest way to ensure paradise for themselves. Besides even worse that Catholic or Muslims are commies, lefties and their ideology.

By the way argument here goes between people who say that religion has nothing to do with Muslim acts of terrors and those who say the opposite.

Funny enough those denying religion as passobiole factor are more oft than not lefties who so far are arguing that religion is the greatest case of war, oppression and generally all human misfortunes and by the eradication of religion humanity will reach and an earthly leftie paradise.

Here they sung the different tune giving credence to the fact that mostly their are shallow thinkers and wholesome morons.

Also some people tar all the Muslims with the same brush. Clearly those people are simpletons and there is no need to debate them.
There are different shades of Islam depending on a country. Plus there two main groups - Sunni and Shiite, Wahhbities and whatnot.

My standing is clear I have nothing against Muslims. I just don't think that enticing Muslim immigration into a Christian country would bring anything but a strife. Some lefties think otherwise but we have already established that they are basically glorified morons.

I even like some aspect of their culture - for one women know they place, they have great barbers.

Genealogy / Why did(do) Poles sometimes have German first names? [28]

was originally Andreas,

Hmm, Given the fact the German language was an official language of the country he emigrated from, I'm not surprised.

Wilhelm is not a very popular name in Poland and I suppose it never was but is not unheard off. i.e. Wilhelm Czerwiński.

Actually many people don't realize such a name is technically a Polish name as well.

formerly mixed between Polish and German

I don't know what you are looking for. What he said he was? That Andreas of yours? Did he declared himself Polish or not? That is what ultimately counts.

If you looking for some 'pure' ethnicity as it is a case with many Americans you might be for a surprise. Poland for about 400 years of her history has been a melting pot of different ethnicities and people. Not unlike USA today. Even before that there was immigration of Germanic people into cities . Then you have partition with included influx of Austrians, Czech and whatnot in this part of the country your ancestor came from.

Also you're focusing on a surname. Its helpful but it doesn't mean that all people with the same surname are connected or a family.

that 19th century folk were pretty clannish

Rather they were class, money and religion conscious.

Yes, and he flies RyanAir too, no private planes

Sure he had been using public funds while in Poland. Right now he is only a glorified butler.

@delphinium You still have no clue about Polish politics. Those polls tell you nothing. Polish public is always against government and those in charge, cause like American public they just don't trust them politicians. If there is some shy..t storm in a political hemisphere that dislike towards gov is growing for w while.

That is not way any indication how the voting preferences would go...

News / 60% of Poles say Szydło's government should resign [238]

This poll is from 19/3/17

I don't find polls to be reliable in Poland. Particularly suspect are those polls which show such a massive surge in support for PO. I would say that is a political publicity more than anything else. I wouldn't got my hopes high if I were you.
