News / Pubs in Poznan kick out Roma? [256]

we all know Poles like to "keep to themselves". That's why we're so homogenious, and attract so many 'white power' kooks. It's more credible to defend that stance than deny it.

UK, Ireland / POLISH CITIZENS FOUND DEAD IN UK... [36]

Dang! You guys have the whole book already written! OK, I'll play - she wanted to get the heck out of there, he would rather she was dead.

USA, Canada / Things that Polish-American should know about Poland. [168]

Most of us find a sense of who we are with our own actions: how we treat our family, who do we pick as friends, the meaning of our work, what we choose to do in our free time, etc.

Ultra-nationalist "patriots", by definition, are very close-minded. I found that most of them do not get along with their own family members, have no real friends, and are unfullfilled at their jobs.

So, for their sense of pride and belonging they pick something they have absolutely no control over, and do not have to do anything about, like a happenstance of their birthland. It's convenient, because they can't really fvck that up, either.

They draw a line in sand between what they know and what they fear - and they defend it fiercely. Their ego depends on it. They think it gives their lives meaning, while in reality it creates most of the discord in the world.

USA, Canada / Think you're Polish (and live in the USA)? [161]

so many brainwashed, judgmental fools.. spewing slogans, not able to think for themselves.. believing that casting a vote will make you a good citizen. Same as going to confession will make you a good catholic.

Patricja, you've bought into an idea that you have to be committed to fight for the country you were born it against any other country you were not born in, regardless of the reason. That kind of thinking should have gone out around the time of Nuremberg trials.

1.No more dealing with the USCIS - Jury duty is more of a pain
2.You get to vote and can get elected - I don't care
3.you are eligible for certain government jobs and benefits.
( you can get a government job without US citizenship, although citizens will be given first preference.) already adressed
4.As a US citizen you can stay out of the country as long as you like - I have a family here. I should be back once a year.

5.will not be deported if committed certain crimes - I seriously thought about it. The only felony I can possibly get popped for is driving home after too many glasses of wine. And I inquired, without other crimes, you won't get deported for that.

6.more options to make a petition of a relative - I don't want to petition for anyone
7.you can get a US passport (which let you visit a lot of countries without visa) - I'd rather travel on Polish passport
8. if you live out of US, you can enter wherever you want - so can permanent resident
9.if you paid the SS and have the credits required to get it, you can get the money in any country - I'm pretty sure you can get it as long as you paid into it.

People lose their green cards all the time and it's not that complicated to apply for a replacement

I have no problems getting the green card replacements. If you know somebody that had their citizen application lost, then we can talk.

However voting is important to me, it's a core value to me

that's very nice, but that is not my core value. I hope you don't imply that your core values are better than mine. I have no intention of getting involved in American politics. And I consider current US military as a not much more than a glorified welfare program. On dangerous sterroids.

skysoulmate

Well, if voting makes you laugh then you probably shouldn't become a US citizen.

so predictable.. I was giving you too much credit.

3.you are eligible for certain government jobs and benefits.

that one falls on the con side. I'm afraid I can be bought ;)

She finally decided to become a US citizen and had no problems at all even though it'd been some 30 years since she became a permanent resident.

again, so what are the advantages? And don't say so I can vote, 'cause that just makes me laugh.

Why is that?

Because if your papers are lost, you cannot reapply until they try to find out what happened to the last application. And they can fvck with you like that for years, or untill you pay a lawyer.

Thanks, Teffle. Yes, I am a permanent legal resident, but somewhere, in the annals of some US database, my file is growing steadily... I'm sure my facebook account is linked in by now. ;)

hmm.. I have popped in and out at least a dozen times since, this was the first fingerprint incident. They took face photos, too! Probably for their new face recognition project.

Plus, they went through my luggage with a fine toothcomb, even unfolding old tissues in my dirty laundry pockets and sh!t.
Musta been on high alert for Polish terrorists with sniffles ;)

you can receive social security benefits abroad without problems

I keep hearing about that, but my mother is getting both US SS and Polish retirement without many problems.

The most important one - you cannot vote without it! I cannot fathom living in a country, any country, where I cannot vote.

you can be quite amusing

Where's your heart in Poland or the USA? Only you can answer that. It's not about advantage.

oh, it is about advantage. In my heart we should not need any passports at all.

At this point, it would take an emmigration lawyer to restart my US citizenship proceedings. So, for me to hand some money to a shyster, advantages would have to be pretty clear.

I've been trying to think of the advantages of obtaining US citizenship, if one has a US residency card already, and Polish passport.
Can anyone list a few?
And if we can keep it from getting contentious, that would be just great.

Love / I was raised in Poland. My Family hates my wife because she's American ... [69]

I think not speaking to her for 4 years was punishment enough.
I think she loves you very much and imagined you living close by, imagined watching her grandchildren grow, showing her new daughter-in-law how to cook your favorite meals and all that sh!t. But, something convinced her that this was not to be and she fought hard, in her mind, for you. And for you helping her in her old age, too. Nothing is perfect. Try to make best of it, whatever you think it may work now.

due to proximity

and, for caribbean at least:
no lines to stand in
no must-see places
no schedules, phones, TVs
casual/minimal clothing
interesting ex-pats
cheap rum
good seafood

Latin americas are less likely to have positive view of America

That's why I love traveling on Polish passport. It confuses the a$$holes that equate the government with its people.
