Life / Washing machine in the bathroom of Poles [78]

No, it goes in the bath or the toilet bowl, as mentioned above ;-)

Ah I know, I'm just taking the mick :P

the outlet was a loose hooked rubber hose one hung over the sink

Aye and from what I've seen people still do it that way :D

UK, Ireland / Polish women that go "off the rails" in London [15]

But it's not the first time I have heard such a thing. The question is why does London have such an effect on (young) Polish women?

Because there's more choice in London.....consider you're some bird from some dump like Zabrze and you're going out with some Waldek that you've been with since high-school. Waldek is OK, but he's only a simple coalminer who loves to beat up Ruch Chorzow supporters every weekend.......sounds boring eh? And then you go to London and there's a world of choice on offer, unless Waldek changes to the cosmopolitan life, he's gonna get left behind.

Dude, why did you bring a chick to London? Isn't there a saying in Poland "you don't bring timber to the wood?"

Go out a get a new bird, there's plenty of hot sinful lusty women in London.

Life / Washing machine in the bathroom of Poles [78]

AFAIK the older type washing machines didn't have the pipe hookup thingy. I might be wrong.

So the water goes on the floor? :P

Electricity...in bathrooms??

How else are you gonna watch prn in the shower? (^_^)

Life / Washing machine in the bathroom of Poles [78]

Not all bathrooms flush the laundry water into bathtub.

Oh of course, in my place when I moved in I connectd the washing machine to the drain pipe, but I've seen plenty of places. Some people are just lazy I suppose.

Life / Washing machine in the bathroom of Poles [78]

English houses typically have kitchens at the back of the house, furthest away from the front door. Which is right ?

Neither, kitchens, in Ireland/UK are traditionally built facing the north to get the most natural light in the morning, thus, living-rooms are on the south to receive most of the natural light in the evenings/afternoons.

I'm with you on the washing machine, putting it in a bathroom is just plain stupid.....I've seen so many bathrooms where people have their washing machines & dirty water flowing from it into their bathtub! WTF is that about? Why not just connect it to the water pipes in your kitchen/bathroom instead of fouling your bathtub?

Life / Is sarcasm widespread in Poland? [27]

Yea, it's tough going......and I'd to do it in secondary school too. Hardcore sh!t, didn't like it at the time, but had to go back to it during uni and the 2nd time round I really got into it.

Peace.

my command of English isn`t so good

That's OK, you'll get there. I'll never be as good at Polish, that's true, I'd rather speak po slasku anyway, far easier, less grammar/cases etc. :P

Then I studied Shakespeare and a few others at the university

Good for you, I'm more of a Chaucer kind of guy myself, but old Billy did certainly have some charming sonnets and plays.

Yet, you are staying in Poland, as you hinted.

What I do love about this country is how people can take the pi$$ out of themselves, y'know not take things too seriously. <------- sarcasm right there boyo.

Get over yourself Paw, what's it like in on your high horse? Lonely I bet ;)

Like a child in the sandbox.....

Exactly, that is correct.
You win!

You will never attain such a good command of Polish as I have attained of English.

It's such a useful language, spoken across the globe, how will I live without it? :P

You are certainly not the case.

Good comeback Paw. *slowclap

I think he's only mean to people like you :)

AH, I know what happened, I reset my cookies and the ignore button reset too.

Bye

Love / Polish Catholic girl - do you have the same relationship problem as me? [28]

Run away now and as fast and as far as you can...you are being abused, but have been brain washed so you can,t see it.

+1

GTF out of there and have as much sex with as many men/people as you want to, life is too short for such (nonsense) fundamentalism to ruin it.

Live your life before it passes you by.

No, he isn`t yet. But he didn`t know what sarcasm is, and that`s as bad as trolling. :):)

Your command of English is almost as good as your 'jokes' (^_^)

That`s a poor excuse.

Excuse? I don't need an excuse.

Your jokes

Ahhh, why can't you just be nice Paw, you're always so mean to us foreigners that live in your country. Why hate on us so much?

excellent cabarets

oxymoron

"Why does he make himself so small? He's not that big!"

Seems legit :P

Well I know that's not true

Ahh I do love sarcasm.

you can joke a lot without being sarcastic - but I always thought of polish culture as being more earnest than sarcastic

Indeed, well sure as the saying goes, "Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit...but the highest form of intelligence"

So you can say from your experience in Poland, since you encountered no sarcasm, than people were neither intelligent nor humorous?
That cannot be, can it?
Am I being sarcastic? It's difficult to tell when only reading isn't it? (^_^)

I agree tho, people aren't as sarcastic here as back where I'm from. But I find that when I meet Poles who've lived in Ireland or the uk, they 'get' my jokes far more than those who haven't travelled. I think humour in general is a bit 'stuck' here. Things like mother-in-law jokes are still common and stand-up comedy is almost non-existent. I don't know how many people I've spoken to who had no idea that Eddie Murphy and Robin Williams et al, were hilarious stand up comedians before they became film stars.

I find the humour here is less self-deprecating, like in English speaking countries, the focus of most jokes is on making a subject, or yourself look funny, or stupid, but here it's usually about someone else appearing stupid/funny, it's not unfunny, it's just different to what I'm used to personally.

Jokes are considered inappropriate in Poland. Nobody jokes or smiles in public. It is a sign of weakness. Humour is not allowed.

Work / 5000zl per month, netto - Would this be enough salary in Gliwice? [12]

Around Rynek would be OK this time of year but during the summer it'd be quite noisy at night, there's a few restaurants/pubs there....but you've prob been there? You know it's not massive so maybe it wouldn't be a problem.

heating, watch etc may be included in your rent? But find out, that kind of stuff isn't that expensive in Poland though.
You prob won't be allowed have a contract phone because you've gotta live here for 6months before they'll give you on...so go with a pay as you go, Heyah have the best offers usually, or just use skype/KIK messenger as much as you can.

2000 aint great tho, if that's what you think will be left, will your work be paying your tax/health insurance etc? That's about 1000zl a month, if they aren't you're screwed, but if not then, 2000zl should be enough for a single person living in Gliwice....you won't live like a king or anything. 5000zl per month is the average wage in this part of Poland so you should fare OK.

I live close so any questions just PM me.

You need more than one slope to have a decent day's skiing in fairness.

Law / Poland's Court System (divorce case) - what would you do? [4]

Sad story man, hang in there though, keep fighting it and things will eventually come good. I know it's hard to see that now, but they will eventually.

Also, unless you're an IT whizzkid don't bother with Ireland, there are no jobs at all, (except for things like programming/software development...especially for gaming).... I know, I had to move here from there to find work.

My heart goes out to ya man, my first few years here were terrible, but I just kept working, kept knocking on doors and trying to find my way and finally it paid off. Hang in there kid, that old cliche, it's always darkest before the dawn comes to mind.

Best of luck wherever you end up.

Work / NO JOBS IN POLAND FOR ENGLISH PEOPLE EXCEPT TEACHING? [44]

Dave, welcome to PF, where the trolls attack with impunity, don't pay any attention to them and click the ignore button when you hover the mouse over their name.

I had the same prob when I moved here...ended up having to teach for about 2 years until I built up a list of useful contacts who helps me get a proper....sorry, not proper....a job I liked.

Hang in there kid, I presume you've a Polish missus that made ya move here (like the vast majority of us), can someone in her family not sort you out with something?

USA, Canada / Polonia - say goodbye to public WiFi America [12]

soory my bad or from wadiyan

Oh Heavens, this place might become bearable again...if that's you man, I've a legal land question for ya in the thread about partition

History / Is 5th partition of Poland possible? What kind? How? When? [73]

Don't see an issue here, more agricultural land means more trade and job and money, this provides more taxes for hospitals, roads, infrastructure etc. Everyone's a winner.

It is a shame however, that the govt. aren't providing low interest loans to Polish farmers to keep the land in the hands of Poles, but then again, they've probably looked into that and have realised that maybe Dutch and Germany industrial farmers are more efficient and will provide better profits and tax.

Foreign investors may only want the land to get at what is underneath it.

I'm not sure if that's only a law in America...I know in many EU countries that you only pay for the land, not what's under it and if natural materials, i.e gas/coal etc are found then they remain the property of the state and they would have to buy back the land from the farmer. However, I'm not aware of the law on this in Poland, so if anyone knows could they set me straight?.....where's Harry?...wish they'd unsuspend him
