News / Failures of Poland and Tusk`s government [191]

In fact, I think it would be great if Greek Mythology were taught in schools today, not only in Greece but throughout Europe. It's a fascinating and still important part of our common European culture, and I don't think teaching Ancient Greek Religion would be at all contrary to freedom.

Do you think teaching the concepts and rules of satanism would be equally good???

Another success of PO run authorities - Koleje Śląskie - they managed to create a communication chaos which is still ongoing - sorry no sources in English for it - the president of the company Marek Worach had been deemed mentally ill in an attempt to avoid conviction for actions in his previous company - this is competence a la PO -

gumishu:
teaching mostly Catholic religion at school is anti-freedom even from religious point of view

They teach according to popular demand. Sorry. :):):)

but the state should not sponsor this education at least and preferably it shouldn't take place on school premises

News / Failures of Poland and Tusk`s government [191]

Since religious neutrality as an ideology gives the absurd result of preventing the State from transmitting the culture of the nation it represents in the very schools that it funds, I propose religious freedom as a better idea than the vain pursuit of neutrality.

And what's wrong with teaching religion in public schools? Why shouldn't people be taught religion?

the state should be confessionally neutral Charlie - besides it costs us money 1.3 billion PLN a year

when I was a kid we were taught religion on church premises and everything was fine

What?

he is being paranoid

News / Failures of Poland and Tusk`s government [191]

Why? Quite a few people in Poland believe the church exerts too much influence on the country`s life and they would like to do sth about it. That is why they voted Palikot two years ago. Pure democracy.

the church costs the state only around one billion a year - the only thing I can say is wrong in Poland regarding the church is teaching religion lessons in public schools

democracy is necessary for people to learn, they cannot learn if they cannot choose - sometimes what they choose will make them suffer but this is part of the learning

They contribute and represent nothing positive and are offensive and unworthy of the airtime they get

Palikot is a media creation - they created the party and are trying to make him the successor of Tusk once the PO name and policies wear out

News / Failures of Poland and Tusk`s government [191]

the Polish government may, in the future, withdraw its support for the concept of a European unitary patent system, just as it did with the ACTA-Agreement in response to massive public demonstrations.

the new minister of economy Janusz Piechociński stated clearly that Poland is not ready for the European patent

Piechociński pointed out that the single European patent raises a lot of controversy and in his opinion, is causing the conflict of interest. - Between what is characteristic of the modern and innovative economies and the Polish reality there is a big difference. In this situation, at the stage of parliamentary work there may be concerns about the decision to adopt a single EU patent - he said.

He added that these doubts will not apply only to caucuses, but also the coalition. - I hope that this document will not find political acceptance in parliamentary work. This does not mean, however, that the problem does not exist - he stressed.

History / Are Suwalki/North East Poles Polonised Lithuanians/Balts? [3]

yes, it's quite probable - large swaths of Lithuania have been polonised before like Lauda (polonia laudańska) - it was voluntary polonisation of the nobles (in case of Lauda petty nobles mostly)

News / Failures of Poland and Tusk`s government [191]

next failure of Tusk government which was originally trumpeted as a succes - the European patent

here listed as a success of Polish presidency:

[i]Poland passed the examination of the administration of the European Union. For half a year , however, hard to find groundbreaking decision. Until our leadership tarnish the debt crisis in the euro zone . " DGP " stock of the successes and failures of Tusk during the Polish presidency of the EU .

It was a good Presidency - these are the comments after yesterday's debate in the European Parliament dedicated to the Polish Presidency in the EU. Also yesterday , Prime Minister Donald Tusk summed up in Strasbourg achievements of the passing half.[/i

]
now the government tries to withdraw from the idea in panic:

kluwerpatentblog.com/2012/03/20/european-unitary-patent-poland-to-follow-spain-and-italy/

this case shows how the PO government is a PR blowfish

another quite telling article on the unitary european patent:

I really thought that the team Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk is no longer able to surprise me with anything and it turns out that in this matter, I have sinned arrogance , and who knows , if not pride . I'm getting those bitter pangs in the context of the so-called law . single European patent which our honest leader the other day promoted as a success of the Polish Presidency . But today, with tail tucked and panic in the eyes of attempts to withdraw from it .

One can of course say that this is not news , it is once again trying to veto Tusk own " success " , as it was even in the case of the climate package. Yes, after five years of experience , I realize that the state Tusk solves problems , which itself previously created , and according to this criterion also resembles the communist regime so that it is defined by the late Stefan Kisielewski .

Language / Polish/Ukrainian words similarities [209]

Czy tylko u mnie jest problem?"

has a slightly different semantic field than 'Czy tylko ja mam problem?'

and it is definitely not a calque from Russian - though we have a couple of calques from Russian in modern Polish - like the overuse of 'dla' preposition

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

and it probably goes back to PIS..ed when in power.

corruption and ineptness date back to PiS - is this what you are trying to say???

mind you, PiS created National Anti-corruption Service (CBA Centralne Biuro Antykorupcyjne) which managed to uncover quite big corruptions schemes before it's chief has been removed

Language / Quick question on Polish language fundamental [40]

times of the year and of the day are often marked with instrumental:

wieczorem - in the evening
zimą - in winter
późną nocą - late in the night

some prepositions require instrumental - nad/pod stołem (over/under the table), nad ranem -at dawn, nad/pod Warszawą (over/ by Warsaw) (static situation - with no movement involved) - compare nad/pod stół - dynamic situation - movement involved

gumishu:
we would've had unemployment like Spain or Greece if Poles weren't allowed to live and work in the EU

Silly argument. Are the Spanish and Greeks banned to work in EU?

Greeks and Spanish prefer to live on a dole apparently than to travel far to get work - Poles still work in Spain to this day in agriculture in spite of this 20 plus per cent unemployment there

according to the last year census around 2 million Polish citizens live abroad 'temporarily' -

In search for work have left already 2 million people: young, educated, determined. The best.

So far, the CSO released the information on only about 1.1 million Poles who are in emigration more than twelve months. They confirm earlier observations - had left mostly young people. More than 243 thousand in the age of 25 - 29 years old and 101 thousand aged 20 - 24 years, while more than 232 thousand is 30 - 34 years old and 151 thousand are aged 35 - 39 years.

As revealed by NSP, among Poles who live abroad for more than one year, 551 thousand are male and 614 thousand - females. - The advantage of women stems from the fact that they often marry men of other nationalities, which leads them to settle abroad permanently. While the partners of Poles are almost exclusively women - says demographer Professor. Krystyna Iglicka, rector of the University of Lazarski.

And unemployment that has historically been bad due to mismanagement of the economy after communism is nowadays around the European average, which isn't great, but it's not Spain or Greece.

we would've had unemployment like Spain or Greece if Poles weren't allowed to live and work in the EU

Life / Do Polish people know a lot about the world ? [16]

most people in the world are quite ignorant of the world as a whole - you just happen to meet a couple of ignorant Polish people - are Polish people more ignorant than others - I don't know - I don't consider myself ignorant if you ask if all Polish people are ignorant - i'm pretty sure I know more about the world than yourself tbh

Oh, I agree. That's why I said a relative absence - i.e., a lot fewer than in Afghanistan or Mali.

true that no children in Poland die of starvation or get seriously ill because of malnutrition save for some pathological cases

Life / Is Poland a poor country? [578]

there is malnutrition among poor children in Poland and there are programmes that address this, if only one parent is working for a minimum wage the situation of a family with children is not to be envied charlie - why do you think young people don't want to have children

there is malnutrition among poor children in Poland

the Przegląd article states that :

Długi Gierka w 80% przeznaczone zostały na sfinansowanie inwestycji; w latach 70. wybudowano około 570 nowych fabryk. Tylko do roku 2003 dochody z ich prywatyzacji wyniosły (zgodnie z oficjalnymi danymi) 40 mld dol., czyli dwukrotnie przewyższyły wielkość zadłużenia w 1980 r.

Gierek's debts where in 80 per cent spent on financing investment. 570 factories were built. Privatisation revenues from these factories till 2003 summed up to 40 billion dolars, so they were 2 times bigger then the Gierek's debt
