History / Poland did reasonably well in land terms out of the postwar settlement [270]

Subtract Poznan from the equation or swap it for Zielona Gora

I'm not trolling, I'm simply asking why did you write that strange post... You mean right now in 2012 Poles preffer Wrocław staying Polish over Lwów becoming Polish again ?

UK
France
Belgium
The Netherlands

Interesting. So countries opressing and exploiting countless millions of ******* around the world, were good forces, unlike Poland which was not a good force ? Please explain.

The Second Polish Republic however was far away from being a pacific peaceloving democratic state but it was on an autoritarian and expansionistic trail. Of course not comparable to the Nazis and the Stalinists, but the fact that the two big Polish neighbor states were the most brutal terror regimes of the 20th century does not mean the Polish state was good force in Europe.

Please list the European pre-WW2 countries and sort them into those being good force in Europe and those not being good force in Europe. Thank you in advance.

Work / My friend is looking for a job in Poland with a physics degree [32]

This is too little to land a good job in a process based on screening of resumes by HR.

In case of IT, a kind of degree he has is irrevelant...

Should and something are very good expressions in this case.

Yes... because obviously I can't guarantee that he would find a job... but he should...

If we lived in early 1990s, he would be welcome with open arms and hearts.

However, Poland progressed a lot since 1990s.

You mean now there's less demand for programmers ?

Many foreign companies have IT centers in Poland and the working language is usually English, they still preffer people who are fluent in Polish too but If he's good in programming, he should find something... but the salary would be far from American one for that kind of job of course...

UK, Ireland / WHAT IS IT ABOUT POLISH PEOPLE THAT MAKES THEM THINK THAT UK WANTS THEM? [309]

WHAT IS IT ABOUT POLISH PEOPLE THAT MAKES THEM THINK OTHER COUNTRIES WANT THEM?

Hmm let me think... "Other countries" making it legal for them to work there, even without any permission ? Employers and employment agencies from "other countries" searching for workers in Poland ?

I was so far left a couple of years ago badmonkey that I made K Marx look like a fascist. I hate what those bastard politicians have doen to this place. Two years ago I would have said the same thing regarding the BNP's policies. No more! Nationalism will restore some pride back in this country which you and your countrymen have kindly reminded me.

Commie turning a nazi then, nothing unusual really. Totalitarian thinking is what dysfunctional individuals like yourself are attracted to, details regarding one sick ideology or another are secondary issue.

News / Becoming non-EUnuch -> giving up your share of handouts. [36]

Hello.

I've been having this idea for quite a long time but unfortunately I don't have enough time to implement it on my own... It's not as easy as some here seem to think... First there would be needed fair evaluation of how much money average Polish person is getting from this shi*ty institution and to make it serious, several high-profile NGO's from neutral countries would have to be involved... then the government would have to be pressured to create some simple procedure of giving it back (so millions can be involved) and finally some pan-European action to show clowns in Belgium where they should stick it all.

Do you know any organization, which potentially could take over this idea ? I don't want it to be some childish one man protest but massive action.

Please comment.

History / Lech Kaczynski - was he a good leader? [88]

Absolutely pointless statement - PiS had 22 more seats than PO in the 2005 Sejm and needed PO for a viable coalition over the 4 years. PO in 2007 and 2011 didn't need PiS at all - so it's a completely pointless comparison.

It was not a statement or a comparision but a question. Please answer.

The point is not that PiS were in control of those ministries, but rather that PO didn't want PiS to be in control of them.

True.

PiS wanted control of them - and were forced into a coalition with LPR and Samoobrona as a result. The same coalition destroyed the centrist vote for PiS - and also destroyed the viability of them in Government.

Very true too but totally not in line with what you had previously said about the reasons why PO-PiS coalition was not fomed in 2005.

BTW Please also kindly reply to #65. Thank you.

Please kindly answer. Thank you in advance.

History / Lech Kaczynski - was he a good leader? [88]

but Kaczynski's maniacal desire for control prevented that.

but PiS demanded control of all the "security" ministries

It wasn't the amount of ministries, but rather control over the security-related ministries. If you remember back what happened in the Contract Sejm, there is a very good reason not to let one party control all the ministries relating to security and power.

Please remind us how many parties (and which of them) have been controlling security-related ministries since +4 years. Thank you in advance.

History / Lech Kaczynski - was he a good leader? [88]

There are many cases

Interesting. Please list them.

but the one I remember most vividly was his veto on public sector pension reform.

Hmm... He didn't agree with that law, so he legally did veto it. What's so strange in that ?

Another 17 bills were vetoed - not normal behaviour for a President.

Please explain why was that not normal behaviour for a President ? Thank you.

What made it even more interesting was that he had only vetoed one bill during the previous Government - and a clear sign that he was using the office maliciously.

Why was that a clear sign that he was using the office maliciously ? Please explain.

and this is without mentioning his abuse of the Constitutional Tribunal

How did he abuse the Tribunal ? Please explain.

Let's not forget the fact that he was very, very pro CAP -which is nonsense for someone who claimed to be against the EU.

When did he claim to be against EU ? Please explain. Thank you.

History / Lech Kaczynski - was he a good leader? [88]

All you need to ask yourself is why he vetoed the appointment of professors, laws, etc. It was solely out of malice in many cases.

Please point out these cases.

History / Lech Kaczynski - was he a good leader? [88]

we can think for ourselves.

Wow. That's trully fascinating... let's concentrate on this one:

We don't need to media to tell us that he's bad - we only need to know that he vetoed endless things.

As this is more on topic than your opinion about his father or your subjective feelings... Please explain what you ment by "we only need to know that he vetoed endless things". Thank you in advance.

News / Anti-Szymborska hate content on Polish websites [38]

whilst the reemaining 98% were rude, vulgar, hateful comments not suitable for polite society.

She was a very controversial person, nevertheless the media promoted her as some kind of saint person and treated her natural death as a national tragedy... If not that totally unnecessary and undeserved glorification, 99% of those comments would have never been written. TYNs should blame themselves.

History / Lech Kaczynski - was he a good leader? [88]

Lech Kaczyński was nor perfect, neither terrible... As the President he was not received very well because average Joe in Poland (pretty much as anywhere else) has not much clue about politics and is heavily influnced by the media, "celebrities" and so on... For them he was very inconvinient, as he supported decommunization, was making fight against corruption one of the top priorities, was not too happy about making Poland a province of a country called EU etc. Poland is unfortunately a country, where "elites" are still mainly made of people with some connections to commies, "businessmen" who accumulated their wealth taking over state-owned companies for a fraction of their real values, "proffesors" who got the scientific degrees under communism for spying on their colleagues etc. So they attacked and ridiculed him at every opportunity (with foreign media, mainly German, helping them as strong and trully independent Poland is of course not in their interest) and that gradually changed the public opinion (so much for "democracy") to the point that some of the least intellectually/morally gifted individuals (plebs) were even expressing their joy over his death.

Some example here:

The only good thing he did for Poland was to die in office before he could do any real damage. To use his own words, spieprzaj dziadu.

On the other hand, current prrresident - the real village idiot, who has all disadvantages of Kaczyński and none of his advantages, is allright as he is defending interests of the "elites".

History / Would you classify the Poland's Communist years as a "Soviet occupation" ? [221]

Without a doubt.

Well, then you have quite unusual views on these matters...

Hungary 56 or Czechoslovakia 68 proved that Soviets were determined to retain control over Central Europe. Actually it had been obvious from a start... Europe was divided into democratic/capitalistic "west" and "east" under Soviet control, no one asked those people If they want to live under "communism". The decsion was made and when there were not enough locals to implement it, they were sent in by Moscow... read on Rokossowski... Gomułka ? Dude forgot about a lot of his "reforms" once red army columns started moving in direction of Warsaw. Kania refused to "sort things out" ? Yes and he lost a position of no.1 commie shortly after that.

Sure commies in Poland had some autonomy, therefore I don't buy stuff such as "Jaruzelski had no choice", however strategical issues such as membership in Warsaw Pact, red ideology etc. were undisputed.

News / Wisława Szymborska died. [30]

Nobel prize

They are awarded subjectivly and in many cases the decisions were highly criticized...

BTW Szymborska herself was very controversial and that's not surprising given her political views, isn't it ?
