Travel / When is the best time (month) to see Poland? [31]

What are the average temps?

Well, Europe is experiencing some really strange weather of late..In England we got down to -16 a couple of weeks ago..which is out of the norm..I would really suggest going in April...weather will be very nice..they still have season in Poland so you'll have good weather...

My other advise would be, get an apartment...eating out is very reaonable...and you can get up and get some nice fresh produce...bread and ham etc for breakfast...also if there are a few of you it means more space, if you need advice, PM me.

Travel / When is the best time (month) to see Poland? [31]

Ive been in Winter and its great and Ive been in summer and its wonderful...It depends, if your father is old, the winters can be harsh (but nothing good clothing cant counter!)...You're a bloke so I would advise summer, easy on the eye and I can definately say your dad will enjoy the scenery! Personally I enjoyed both..simply because I visited nice cities and had ball..Wroclaw was great because I met people off there..

News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

They don't have Walmart, I think that answers the question.

That was a joke right?

But seriously, comparing Poland to France? Poland is about like France 30 years ago, except with horrible roads

Poland was an occupied country for decades with no investment...as for 30 years behind..I dont think so..have you seen rural parts of France? and the slums in Paris?

USA, Canada / My wife wants to return to Poland...but I want to stay in the US [155]

Wroclaw

Wiki means nothing...Christ, it really does show me that men do really have a limited knowlege in this department...

Wife is broken, repair or replace.

In which case my mate should have got rid of her partner of 9 years last year when his penis stopped funtioning because he was depressed!.

In answer to the title of the thread, I suppose it dependss on how thick their accent is, this would depend on if I could understand them or not ;0)

Law / Polish Cop Took My Car Registration :S [143]

hence some British road signs being in Polish.

Where? Ive not come across any..

The UK police have to be able to speak Polish

Since when? They have a few Polish community liasion officers, but British police do not HAVE to speak another language in order to get on the force....We have interpreters who are used as and when and its pretty doubtful that they'd call one to a scene, they'd just generally take someone back to the station or if desparate they can ring an interpreter.

Or the Polish immigrants' fault?

Its the fault of any ignorant person if they cant be bothered to learn the language...Polish people in England or English people in Poland..

We have to learn a second language from the age of 12

They start in primary school now...or a lot of parents are keen for thier kids to learn another language, my niece is only 9 and has some French, German, Spanish and Italian...As for thinking its not important for an English kid to learn another language, well..look at how many foreign companies are setting up in the UK and a lot of them want foreign speaking staff....soooooooo..we either get smart and keep up or...lose out

Law / Polish Cop Took My Car Registration :S [143]

When I get stopped I demand they speak to me in English, If they stop a UK registered car with the steering wheel on the right hand side what language do they expect the occupants to speak?

D, if some Pole or Hungarian or Slovakian or German or Swede or Slovenian or Czech or (need I go on?) or French person were to be pulled over in their illegally tinted car, would you expect our dear boys in blue to be able to converse with them in whatever language to happen to speak? If we expect people to be able to communicate in Englist whilst in England, its not really unfair to expect your host country to expect you to be able to communicte in their lang.

As already pointed out Poland does not want to go down the road of employing and spending millions of tax payers money on interpreters..

And by the way, try going to France, Italy or Spain and speaking English there. Good luck! (A guy in Notre Dame de Paris didn't know what "two tickets" mean).

Spanish kids learn English at school, I'd say the majority of the Spanish population speak a little bit of English, as do the French and the Italians...The French just refuse to use English - so its was more than likely the guy understood you perfectly but just didnt want acknowledge the fact you spoke to him in English.. :D

Work / Polish qualifications, what are they worth ? [137]

For example what is the Polish equivalent to NVQ, GCSE, O,level, A,level, S,level, City and Guilds.

All basic quals and certainly NOT professional qualificaitons so a Polish person possessing an equivalent to these shouldnt think they're going to gain anything better than a low level office job at best. Plus the quals you mentioned would not be recognised in any other country than in the UK. I thought you were talking about people with degrees?

Work / Polish qualifications, what are they worth ? [137]

I don't know about engineers,

We've recently had several engineers at my company who came from two of our Polish offices, so Engineers are perfectly okay to work here in the UK with no need for any other quals than the ones they gained at Polish institutes.

and had to re-sit the appropriate English examinations

What qualifications did they possess?

I listed my experiences and therefore am asking a question.

Evidently your experience is quite limited - because you dont seem to have come across any professionals working in the UK.

Work / Polish qualifications, what are they worth ? [137]

Thats why graduates in law etc. are menial cleaners elsewhere in the EU.

Lack of confience with the lanauge? Competition with the indiginous population? Lack of experience (you did say Grads)

G, we have Polish doctors and engineers in the UK..so, yes Polish quals are recognised.

Law / Polish Cop Took My Car Registration :S [143]

Unless I'm totally wrong, isn't the same idea in effect, that you have to remove the offending thing (tint in this case) and then show it to the police? It wouldn't actually be a bad idea to demand that people got a fresh MOT - if someone is driving about with illegal equipment, what else might be dodgy?

It's a fixed pentalty in the UK, with a stiff warning if caught again, points will be added to your licence (just to make it clear I dont know any knobs that drive cars that have tints, I have friends on the force who laugh at these people!)

Bloody hell....are we agreeing?

It was inevitable..

Law / Polish Cop Took My Car Registration :S [143]

Procedures, and no even in UK you have to wait in similar cases (though usually its 48 hrs).

They radio your details through and do a PNC check. If you dont have your papers with you you have to "produce" at your local station, they DO NOT take your papers off you.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Police_National_Computer

I knew it was illegal beforehand

Then you're a tit for driving with an illegal tint.

UK, Ireland / The Irish, the biggest tax evaders ever [21]

Thats life D, its a lot harder in the UK for people to work on the side now...and the penalties are heavy if caught...about time too! Maybe if both sides co-operated it might make a difference to the system?

UK, Ireland / A collection of noimmigration's threads or "STAY AWAY from BRITAIN" [978]

Ban all benefits

For those who have never paid tax definately.... But benefit are there to serve as a safety net for those that fall on hard times (or thats what it was supposed to be like), so I would not agree with ridding the island of them all together..

I have another formular: (the UAE use it)

Tourist tax if you are a foreigner and not a British citizen (those here for 10 years or more could apply for the privilage) , but no other income tax or national insurance - in return for this we give nothing, no free education system, no access to doctors or hospitals, everything would be pay as you go, so those immigrants that want to come here and reproduce like rats, they'd have to pay and receive nothing for their efforts to over-populate my island!

refuse to even learn English,

There are plenty of Poles that have done this, but there are plenty of Brits living Poland who dont speak Polish either! It never fails to amaze me that people could move to a different country and not learn the language!

Ban Islam and save Britain lol.

Its not as bad you think really...Muslims are not the majority, they just have big mouths! Also any MPs they have are a joke and pretty much a disgrace (Lord Ahmed...anyone?)

Life / Do you think a smoking ban would be a good thing in Polish restaurants and Bars? [217]

Based on this logic, your home is a public area

It’s a private dwelling actually (buildings are categorised), all that public house means is that its open to the public (its not a private members bar), some pubs are called free houses (that’s thrown you hasn’t it!). Public places are spaces or buildings that the public frequent or use, public toilets are toilets that the public use, they usually have to pay for the privilege too...are you getting the gist?

I'll be happy to let smokers continue their habit

Jolly good of you Peter, Im sure you're happy with the billions of ££ revenue that the gov gets of us dirty smokers too, its an average of £3.00 on a pk of fags these days..fatties are a bigger health problem before you go down the road of what my tax is spent on!

In the UK it's happened already and makes my heart break to see traditional pubs that used to be the focus of a community either boarded up of being turned into flats.

Its the less weathly areas that have been really hit, where I live most of the bars are doing fine, BUT, a lot have really accommodated the smokers - one the pubs I go to has an outside covered area with heaters and flat screen on the wall (for the sports fans) and most have really upped their game where food is concerned...In the more (what were) working class areas, forget it, but this has a lot to do with who lives there these days.....Well, Howarth is doing very well...it'll be a sad day if any of my fav pubs close there!!!!

Life / Do you think a smoking ban would be a good thing in Polish restaurants and Bars? [217]

Oh come TM, dont be coy :D

I have to be honest, it really doesnt bother me in the slightest not being able to smoke in a bar and when Im abroad, Im not overly keen on coming home smelling like an ash tray (its amazing how much you notice the difference)...Its just a shame about the pub trade, but as mentioned, thats got more to do with cheapo deals in the supermarkets..

(slightly off topic) The pub trade in the UK are about to to be hit again, the goverment are stopping all the 2 4 1 deals and happy hours in a bid to stop bing drinking...They're not stopping the supermarkets though!

Life / Do you think a smoking ban would be a good thing in Polish restaurants and Bars? [217]

it will be excellent for everyone, the business will make more money as it did in other countries after the ban.

Do you want the stats for number of public houses which have closed since the ban came in? Whilst it doesnt bother me going outside to smoke, a lot of people would rather not, so therefore stay at home with a tesco carryout...so the super markets have done wonderfullly out it...the pubs :( Funny thing is though, most people I know dont smoke in their own homes, they go in the garden! So I think its more about the cost of a pint, the smoking ban just added insult to injury...

Spain is about to extend its no smoking ban, I'll be curious to see how that one goes down..

Work / Poland is headhunting seriously in IT, Finance and HR. [41]

Poland is definitely in the middle of a crisis.

We have a Warsaw office, they had 2 rounds of redundancies last year..things are not rosey now..so I have an idea how certain sectors are doing.

or a referral.

? Wouldnt that be what my GP does when I need to see a specialist? This guy sees people, fills jobs and gets commission, i.e. cash on top of what he is paid for just doing his job (probably low paid job - even recruitment has taken a wage bashing in the UK, will teach them for lowering salaries by providing cheap labour!)

in Sales and Marketing, things are desperate.

Same here, but the T&C's are shocking...Salaries have decreased in most sectors though...

firing people who won't take a pay cut and hiring cheaper people.

Sounds familiar....

Work / Poland is headhunting seriously in IT, Finance and HR. [41]

All Europe is trying to recover after the crisis in US... And guess what? Poland is still offering jobs.

Really? Funny how Poles are still heading for England considering they're doing so well...Strange that well qualified Poles are still working in menial jobs in the UK, please do not try to make out Poland as being untouched by the crisis and that they are some utopia, speak to any Pole whose gone back to try to find work only to end up back in the UK!

we are getting bonus for that

Isnt it called commission?

Love / I`m Polish bloke lookin`for an English girl. Is it gonna work out? [51]

Which part of England would you recommend then (except London)?

Percentage of attractive women Id say Manchester and Liverpool - the two Polish secondees from our Warsaw office thought the women were pretty nice in my city..One of their mates that lives here full time will only date English girls...So we must have something...Its a big city though..Im surprised you cant find a nice girl in Leeds though..its not a bad city (having said that not been out there for a few years)...

UK, Ireland / Expired Polish passport; will the English one suffice? [9]

My advice would be to ring airlines or look on their web sites, but if it says he can travel on an expired passport then Im sure its possible for a return journey to his home country.

Love / Well.. I got a Polish girl pregnant.. [88]

How much money does an electrical engineer make on average in the UK?

You mean an "electrican" That would depend - a guy can charge whatever he likes, but Ive never met a poor electrican lets put it that way. My friends ex husband fits aircon systems and will gross about £6.5k per month ($9,750), so thats an indication of what someone can earn.

Now a question for you, why are you so pissed off that this guy wants to take his g/f to the US, Im sure she is better educated than a lot of Americans and will in time contribute to your system, unlike the trailor trash and other immigrants thet breed like rats and contribute nothing, also, sweetie, the Poles along with other europeans were the ones that built your fine country! Not the trash that flock over your boarders that you are giving citizenship to now like sweeties to a kid..

put a sock in it.

Bravo!

Love / Well.. I got a Polish girl pregnant.. [88]

At first, she hated the idea of having the babies (twins) elsewhere

Doesnt sound like she did it for a visa.

but lately she seems a bit more open to it.

Maybe she doesnt relish the idea of being a single mother in Poland, so her choices are limited if she does want to be with the father.

Does anyone know how I can get this young expectant mother back to America with me?

Sounds like a guy who wants to do the right thing.

Blimey so many negative things and I agree with WW, life (from what I have been told) in America isnt some easy ride, she would receive health care in Poland with no problem, no having to have expensive private insurance.

America simply cannot continue taking so many immigrants. It is hurting the overall economy.

You could fit GB in one of your huge lakes...so stop whining, we have bigger problems here! He wasnt suggesting she be an illegal immigrant, he was suggesting a visa route.

As for her falling pregnant, it doesnt sound like she did it on purpose, contraception fails, I had a friend get pregnant on the injection pill which is supposed to be almost impossible!

I'm pretty sure American engineers are paid more than most European engineers...

Its all relative - but I can find out what our Engineers are paid in our offices in the States if you like, I doubt very much they are paid any more than our Engineers in the UK, but then again I suppose it depends on what kind of Engineer you are it covers a broad spectrum, wouldnt you agree?
