News / WikiLeaks Reveals Tense Foreign Relations Amongst Poland. [22]

More very real harm by Wikileaks terrorists.

What? The Polish people are very happy that they've found this out - allows them to know the truth about the Patriot deployment.

Don't you think they've got a right to know about the defence of their country?

USA, Canada / Polish Americans and religion [28]

It's basic manners to use correct punctuation, grammar, etc on an internet forum. Makes it easier to read for the rest of us :)

USA, Canada / Polish Americans and religion [28]

But, when I see and talk to other polish people, it seems that many are, in fact really religious.

No, when you talk to other Polish-American people. They're not Polish.

Please, learn to differentiate between the two.

Being 100% polish and a second generation immigrant family, I am proud of my polish heritage.

So why don't you speak fluent Polish?

Every proud Polish person I know is very proud to speak the language.

Law / Poland's Online Services for TAX, ZUS, etc. [4]

Does anyone know if it is possible to view your "account" online relating to your ZUS and tax payments. I don't trust the fact that I'm paying these things every month but getting absolutely no confirmation whatsoever from either of the relevant authorities

If you're a private person, you can just go to them and ask them for a copy of your payments.

If you have a business, then your accountant should have access to ZUS records (mine does..) and they should also be able to get a copy of your payments to the tax office. Or of course, you can just go to them.

But online, no, it's not possible. Is it actually possible in most countries?

Work / Education in Poland - system and structure [118]

So what do you think of it?

It needs deep reform, from the pre-school right through to the post-doctoral level and even beyond. The whole thing needs to be torn down and started again with a brand new start - and absolutely everything must be considered for change.

The worst thing is that Poles want to learn, they have a positive attitude towards the value of education - but the system fails them. badly.

Food / Irn Bru in Poland [20]

Kuchnie Swiata has it :) You should be able to order it from them - I'm not sure if they have an online shop, but they're in some cities - and if not, they should be able to sort you out with some supplies on a wholesale basis :) It's 5zl a can in the shops.

If I remember, you're in Olsztyn - if so, you're in luck! :) Their wholesaler is there too - so you should be able to order a decent amount at a good price :)

10 - 540 Olsztyn
ul. Dąbrowszczaków 13/2
tel.: 89 535 07 23
fax: 89 521 03 94
e-mail: olsztyn@sanechem.com.pl

sob.: 900 - 1200

Even if they don't have it in the store, they can order it easily for you.

Whats more important is....where can you get dandelion and burdock from...?

M&S sells it here, I think? Shall investigate for you...

UK, Ireland / Why British men move to Poland [63]

Simple.

Poles are going to the UK for money. The Brits are coming here for a more laid back life.

Work / Polish students among best in OECD [32]

At age 15 the typical British child is in a school of 1300 pupils (they're all called students and young adults nowadays) whereas the typical Polish child is in a school of 350.

But the school of 1300 is far better equipped and is far more professionally run than an average Polish middle school is. Let's not forget about the complete lack of ability in Polish schools to discipline children.

USA, Canada / Canada Increasingly a Gateway for Undocumented Polish Immigrants Entering the U.S. [150]

you know what though Delph, like always, money trumps shame. america loses very little (or possibly even gains some) by refusing a poor country like Poland visa free travel but the day strong EU countries start doing the same to America....well.....a slightly different result.

Yup. I think we all know fine that America pulls the strings here. Even now that they've introduced the ESTA fee - the EU is doing absolutely nothing in return. If they can't even apply a simple $14 fee in return, what hope is there of the EU demanding visa-free access for Poland?

I'm not saying right or wrong but you know as well as I do, it's just how it is.

The funny thing for me is why Poland didn't take advantage when they could - if they had refused to commit any troops to Iraq (when Bush was desperate for someone, anyone to join the "coalition of the willing") until the visa waiver was dropped, they might have got somewhere. But as it stands - just who is fighting for it? As I understand American politics, if you want to change something, then you need an influential backer. And I don't see any influential backers lining up to help Poland in this respect.

also a great point. take a look at the USA.....it's enormous. 50 states to choose from.....and hide in. Imagine how easy it would be to "get lost" in the north west or better yet....Alaska. No such thing as "zameldowanie" in the USA.

It would be a piece of cake. Not only that, but would anyone really notice if "Marcin" and "Magda" turned up to work at the Polish bakery in Chicago or elsewhere? America has (as far as I can work out) quite weak internal controls over people, so a strong visa policy makes sense for them. It's exactly the same reason why the UK is so tough with visas compared to Schengen countries.

At the end of the day, if Poland doesn't like it, then she has to do something to change it - I just can't see what motivation there is for America to actually change things.

History / Lwów, Wilno ... kresy - Poland have lost enormoust part of our heritage... [389]

Who said i don't plan on doing so?

You'll only have 90 days residence - can't see you changing the world in 90 days, racist!

and you are? on your profile you write that you speak Polish badly I highly doubt you are but for your information I am Polish :)

You don't have Polish citizenship - therefore, you aren't Polish.

Whats with all the hate? If you don't agree what I say just say so you don't have to call me a racist.

I've no time for racist Polacks.

USA, Canada / Canada Increasingly a Gateway for Undocumented Polish Immigrants Entering the U.S. [150]

If there are 50,000 illegal poles living in the USA right now, imagine if the USA opened its borders completely to Poland.

Given that they can simply "vanish" in the US as well (I've heard from a couple of Poles who managed it) - and have a society to integrate to, it would certainly be more appealing to head to the US than many other places.

I don't think it would be a flood, but it's not unreasonable to expect that there would be at least another 50k-100k heading there. And worse still, it wouldn't be the educated ones, but rather the people from villages at the bottom of society.

(anyway, it's America's right as a sovereign state to decide what's what. Shame on the EU for not demanding equal treatment, but that's another matter)

Yes Russian are peacful people they have never started a war have they ;)

He's talking about Belorusians, not Russians.

No one is accepting anything...

Really? You're just a Plastic Pole - why don't you move here and campaign if you so passionately believe in it? Ah, wait a second - you're not even Polish!

You are the only one making sense here.

Run along to Stormfront now, little racist.

Interpreter had a thick accent but still.

That sounds like the "generic late 30's language school director who knows best" accent.

There certainly must be more Americans there. Even still, I'd guess not many.

There's quite a few in Krakow, but still nothing on the level of Prague or Berlin.

Still, there was a member of this forum deported from Poland for breaking the law in regards to residency and work permits!

News / Poles don't have a heart for math... says The New York Times [84]

And it wasn't only rocket scientists!

Wasn't this one of the great things about post-war Germany though, that members of the Nazi party were invited to rebuild Germany? I'm sure the wunderschaft was at least partially reliant on their skills.

I wish I could remember what book I have that talks about this - it compares denazification in the BRD and DDR.

News / John Godson, born in Nigeria, might become Poland Sejm's first black deputy! [313]

I try for the life of me to understand why you champion blacks the way that you along with most Europeans do. But this is a question that i throw up my hands in despair.. I have no answer. But I grant all of you. This is your right to what ever makes you happy.. As for the guy in poland goes. I couldnt care less what the poles do. I am more concerned with the idiots in our government.

So, why are you posting on this forum if you don't care what Poles do?

Well..if it consoles you so did the victorious allies with the german "intelligentsia" after they won.

I thought they just kidnapped all the German rocket scientists and took them to America? ;)

(for what it's worth, wasn't German rocket technology ahead of the rest of the world?)

News / Poles don't have a heart for math... says The New York Times [84]

I don't think anyone actually read the original article. That socialist communist newspaper said that Poles have a rich history, with particular successes in the interwar period, and it's an overwhelmingly positive article about Poland.

Seems to be very positive from my point of view too.

Its Gazeta Wyborcza of US of A, it has a long standing tradition of lies and bullsh*t.

Nice to see that you think the article is full of lies - I mean, how dare they praise Poland!

Seriously, how can people complain about this article? It seems to be rather factual - unless of course, the usual revisionists wish to deny that Mathematics wasn't a compulsory part of the Matura for the last 9 years.

Sure, it should mean they take their studies far more seriously.

I think that those tests are **** worth...

Because - I think the tests are measuring pure knowledge. They're not measuring things like problem solving - so Poland ends up artifically high because the education system here is very good at teaching "facts".

I agree with everything you said we must stop John Godson he is a scum and he will let in all the other scum in to Poland.

Ah, you're betraying your Nazi sympathies now, aren't you?

Do us a favour and don't return to Poland - we don't need or want such morons here. Thankfully, you don't have Polish citizenship anyway, so you're just Plastic like the rest of them.

Im sure you will find that some people are lol

Yes, Plastic Poles are. The ones who don't live in Poland, don't contribute and generally know nothing about Poland.

If my opinion if Belorussian ( white russia ) was to no longer exist ( I dont know why it exist anyway Belorussians are Russians) we wouldn't have to bring up this issue. Poland could have Lwow and Brest and the rest could be split between Ukraine and Lithuania.

How many Belarusians do you know? None? :)

I suggest you go away and read about who the Belarusians are before you make such ridiculous comments. Or would you like us to say that Poles are nothing but crossbreeds?

News / John Godson, born in Nigeria, might become Poland Sejm's first black deputy! [313]

Well in my reading I kept seeing something called "liberal-conservative" whatever this is. Seems a contradiction in terms to me. And it's all pretty Left compared to our
standards over here.

It's because Polish politics don't equate to traditional left-right politics. The leader of the opposition for instance is very socialist (pro welfare, pro trade unions, etc) - but he's also very socially conservative.

The Polish government is, as I've said several times, Thatcherist with fairly conservative social views.

So you'll just blindly support any and every politician that gets elected whether or not you agree with their policies? Or just the blacks ones?

I'll support their right to be there, even if I don't agree with them. It's called democracy.

Huh? It's the Left that hates democracy, silly.

Really? Why does Palin want to execute a journalist, then?

There seems to be a great deal of mystery surrounding just how this guy got into office. Are you guys really sure there wasn't some underhanded funny business afoot? Are you sure?

It was explained earlier.

Quite simple, if you take the time to learn how the Polish system works.

Not sure how there can be "underhanded funny business" when all this stuff was decided in 2007. For what it's worth, Godson isn't the only person this year to gain his seat despite not gaining enough votes to enter the Sejm in 2007.

Once again the thread has disintegrated into a racial semantics, conspiracy theories and paranoia. What a surprise.

About normal for PF.

Thankfully, Godson will be doing a good job in the Sejm. He seems to have previous form for ignoring the council sessions and instead working with issues that affect his constituents - and I doubt he'll change now.

UK, Ireland / Why British men move to Poland [63]

Oi, what idiot moved this into the Polonia forum? It's nothing to do with Polish people in the UK - unless you count the reason why Polish men don't date British women ;)
