Love / POLISH GIRLFRIEND WONT PAY HER WAY [127]

Couldn't stop repeating, you mean?

I have to make my wife pay for the windows. I've just paid a tidy sum for new doors and I'm getting fed up of always dipping into my pockets. If she wants new windows, she can save up for them. The level of stinginess I see here defies belief. Make sure you get hospitality as they show a different face then.

Life / The Blame Game (Have you ever noticed that a Polish person is never wrong!?) [205]

You just need to lighten them up somehow. Otherwise, you will often come up against defensiveness. It's all about using your skills as a human to get through to them. I met sb who looked stuffy and defensive but she expedited my wedding date which wasn't convenient for her. I will forever have my wedding date on my birthday thanks to her. There are good sorts :) :)

Avalon, pawian is just doing what he is conditioned to do. It's normal for Poles to defend their position and is indeed expected. Just clarify what you meant regarding the ticket part and all will be clear I'm sure. Tbh, I also took it that way pawian did. It appeared like they admitted their fault in the end. Maybe I read it too quickly. Generally, I identify with what you wrote in the OP and don't think it's fabricated or invented BS at all. Far from it!

I think part of it lies in the lack of empowerment felt by people here. I can see that Poles can be passionate and enthusiastic, of that I have no doubts. However, many are affected by negativity around them and give up too easily. Many would rather point out what's wrong as opposed to putting it right. I think some Poles would benefit from assertiveness training and empowerment sessions.

Genealogy / How common is it for other people of Polish origin to discover they are actually Jewish? [127]

Yeah, like Europhile and Europhobe. Why should they apologise for the actions of a few morons many decades ago?

Poles are too stupid to run their own country? Ask yourselves where they come up short and what is really needed in life. I'd say many do well but I think a few compromise seminars wouldn't go amiss. Jews tend to work well in teams and they tend to be more success driven.

It's that way in Japan but Polish women are much more headstrong than them. That has its plusses and minuses. Many Poles are FAR more adversarial than them. Oh boy, no comparison whatsoever. If they think you are to blame, you'll know about it in no uncertain terms. No pu*syfooting around.

Not a chance, delph. It more closely resembles Japan here in that they have a 'hanko' system. It is a personal seal which only you can possess. I like having a stamp here. Only a signature doesn't suffice in this day and age. It suits Poland well as some Poles can be anarchic. In fact, many are so it makes them tow the line and adhere to often reasonable rules.

I can imagine that that would work, yes. Keep them on their toes :)

Passing the buck happens everywhere. I have to say that there is a lot at stake for some admin workers here and they are procedure bound. I have had positive experiences with thoroughness. The line of command can be clear at times so they have to stamp and sign properly. It tends to be the old biddies that won't accept responsibility.

A guy I know was recently told to take an extra administrative step to finalise the formation of his company. He did so but it turned out that he set up a second company. He told them that he had been badly advised but they turned him away. They would accept no blame but it was them that told him the erroneous info and he now has to put himself out just to rectify the situation. He wasn't best pleased.

ZIMMY, I prefer Bonobo's music, thanks :) :)

There is a certain 'sparring' element to Polish culture. You can see the same in Scottish councils to a slightly lesser extent. Rather than attempt to see and hear out those you are serving, the guard goes up and the defensiveness sets in. Covering your bacon and denying wrongdoing become the norm.

No petty squabbles, please. Just real experiences placed into their relevant contexts. I'm glad many Poles can see problems and try to address them. Sweeping things under the carpet like China does is not healthy.

The degree to which some Poles assert their being right makes me cringe. Dinner parties with extended Polish family can be quite amusing. It can be very petty mudslinging but God bless my father-in-law for ducking them. He just puts his hands to his temples in disbelief of what he is hearing.
