Law / Germany and Austria to fully open their labor market to Poles in 2011. Economic growth? [49]

I see Brits in Poland have to pay for medical care, why the fek shouldnt Poles in the UK be made to pay?

Ah, I was only thinking in pure cash terms.

Yes, you're right. This was an utter joke that the UK completely failed to do even basic checks on people's entitlement to care - while I don't advocate a Polish style insurance system - but it would make sense to, at the very least, require people to prove that they've been paying NI when using the system.

(for that matter : one of the worst scams going is where non-EU citizens come to the UK to give birth, get a big bill - and they leave with the bill unpaid. I'd be a great fan of seeing such people refused permission to leave until the debts are paid - or at the very least, be barred from future entry until the bills are paid)

Often poles refer to London as being England. Look a bit further.

If people want to work, they can move to those cities. It's pretty simple.

If their grasp of German is anything like their grasp of English, then god help the Germans.

Their grasp of English is just fine. It's certainly superior (among new graduates) than many other comparable countries.

Maybe they should show me what colour underpants they wear.

Then they're probably not claiming benefits.

Firstly it,s not a few, and second, their grieviances are fully founded.

The UK case shows us that it's mostly idiots complaining about Poles. Sensible people (such as business owners) saw that Poles were providing good, cheap, hassle free labour. And frankly - who cares about a few morons on a council estate? They certainly priced themselves out of the market - and many of them would rather sit at home drinking Stella and watching Sky anyway. In fact - if you look at it, it simply didn't make sense for many of them to work anyway - the whole benefits system encourages low earners to stay unemployed.

Get a grip delph, if Ukrainians, Belarusians, etc started to influx Poland, how do you think the Poles would feel ?

You'd see exactly the same situation - people who would take advantage and start businesses to take advantage of the cheap labour, while the morons would sit at home crying about how it's not fair. Right now, it's the Government that stops them working - tomorrow, it'll be Ukrainians. You only need to look at how people behave in inbred villages in Poland - they'll sit around whining and drinking, but they won't bother to move to the big cities to take up the jobs that need doing.

Same old pattern throughout Europe - the only people who complain about EU immigrants are the ones who will complain anyway.

What makes you think Poland can offer skilled workers, when they haven,t trainned their own people because of lack of jobs.

Lack of jobs where? Last time I checked, the "Big 5" cities (Warsaw, Poznan, Wroclaw, Troj-miasto, Krakow) all had more or less 0% unemployment. There's certainly no lack of skilled workers in these cities - many of whom have a grasp of German. And don't forget - Polish skilled workers will be cheaper than German ones. I know that already, the Germans are looking at stealing a lot of accountancy-trained graduates.

Well, of the Poles I know in the UK, and that,s considerably many, I would say 90% are currently unemployed, hence claiming benefits.

How do you know they're receiving benefits? Have you seen their award letters? You might want to consider that Poles currently cannot claim any benefits without a year's work under the WRS - and even then, it's a tricky process for them.

I've never seen any evidence that Poles are claiming benefits in the UK on any large scale.

Now you only have to speak with a eastern european accent to be tarred with the same brush and get labelled

But how does that mean Europe is worse? A few comments from some idiots doesn't mean things are worse.

BB how many German-born Germans live and work abroad ??

A lot. Germans are all over the place, especially in areas such as disaster relief and international aid. It's a credit to them that you never really hear about them either.

Delphie we all talked it over via PM, and decided to go about this like the Universities do, we're inviting you to leave...

We? Who is "we"? Is this you and your traitorous father again?

It's no surprise that your father won't come back - we don't like communist, traitorous scum here. There's certainly no place in Poland for a man who built weapons for the Warsaw Pact to use against her own citizens.

Feedback / How many hours a day do you dedicate for PF and how often? [21]

I think in Sunday morning is a difficult task to find anyone who wouldn't have a hangover...

Urgh, even me, I have a slight hangover after TWO BEERS. IN A NON SMOKING PUB :(

new service? English lesson-date? :D

Haha, well.... ;)

No, not quite - just that they need to work with several women aged about 27 or so :D

(I'd post an ad on PF, but it's bound to degenerate into some sort of massive argument)

None will leave the UK, they wouldn,t get better welfare anywhere else.

So - how many Polish people claim British welfare benefits?

It was a better europe when people stayed within their own borders, did their own jobs and hence aided their own economies.

Really? I'd like to see some empirical evidence for this.

PennBoy, you don't live here.

If you did, you'd know that ZUS is desperately underfunded - and we could potentially see another 250k taxpayers leave for Germany in May. That's a disaster - and what else do you propose?

The fact that you don't even pay Polish taxes means that you simply aren't fit to comment on this.

Life / Is the word "Polack"rascist? [185]

Yeah :D

But the Americans use Polack, Pollock, Polak and variants of that interchangably as an insult.

(there's a point to be made about dumb Americans in there, I guess)

Life / Is the word "Polack"rascist? [185]

Today, in the English-speaking world, the word "Polack" is sometimes considered an ethnic slur:

I'd say in the US, perhaps (though - if Pollock Johnny's exists, it can't be that bad. I can't imagine "Nigger Adam's" or "Kyke David's"). Certainly not in the UK.

then you are trolling.

Aren't we all?

Life / Is the word "Polack"rascist? [185]

then you have to admit that the term "Polack" is used by racists in the same derogatory
way as an insult towards Polish people (not to mention the phrase "dumb Polacks" that you
used.)

Thing is, I wouldn't dream of using it towards a Polish person. It's not particularly offensive anyway (everyone I asked, bar one person who lived in America was like "huh? why are you calling me a male Polish person?") for Poles - for me, it's solely an insult towards dumb racist Americans who use their "Polishness" as an excuse to act better than everyone else. Of course, their Polishness is pretty vague anyway - and for many of them, they could very well be Ukrainian/etc anyway.

Of course, I guess in the United States, Polack is used towards all Poles.

But Torq - moving away from my personal usage, do you know about any offensive nicknames used for Poles by other Europeans? Polack is unknown for us from the UK.

it is. I'd be offended if someone used that word in my companionship. Why do you still argue with that?

Would you be offended if it was aimed towards an American who was using his "Polishness" to justify his racist, village idiot behaviour that was reflecting badly on anyone who was actually Polish?

Of course, that assumes that Polack is a racial slur.

polockjohnnys.com

Racist?

(in all fairness : this forum would be a far better place without all the racism flying around)

Life / Is the word "Polack"rascist? [185]

Oh, so it's OK to use the term Paki against racist Pakistanis, and kyke against racist Jews?
And, of course, it is perfectly acceptable to use the term nigger when talking about
a racist Afro-American?

Seems fair, don't you think?

Of course, there are no shops called "Nigger Johnny's", unlike Pollack Johnny's.

(in all fairness : the admin made it clear a while ago that racist terms were fine, as long as they're on topic)

As I said - Polack is a term used towards racist Polish Americans, rather than Polish Americans or Poles.

News / US air base to be in Poland [193]

Polish Defense Minister Bogdan Klich has said the United States was also planning to deploy Patriot missile defense systems in Poland at a base just 100 kilometers from the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad.

Hahahahaha. We all know how THAT ended up.

Work / Need for Public Accountants in Polska? Poland [11]

on an Expat deal you would generally pay lower tax

Interesting, why would an expat get away with paying lower tax here?

I don't know much about the Polish taxation system, but if they're here for more than 185 days, wouldn't they be liable for the full whack? I wasn't aware that Poland had anything like the UK's "non-dom" status.

Law / I was fined for not having a tram ticket in Poland. How does this affect me? [68]

Mass transit - that includes PKP, LOT, and metro/tram/bus systems. You guys need to work on improving it, raise your standards a bit, or purchase it all from someone that knows how to manage it better.

There's nothing wrong with most bus/tram systems in Poland. In fact, you're welcome to point out where they can be improved - generally speaking, public transport within municipalities is effective, cheap and reliable in Poland. As for LOT - they're not doing so badly themselves.

Only the PKP Group/Przewozy Regionalne is suffering, and that's all due to uncooperating trade unions who simply don't want to modernise, as well as a Government which is firmly in the pockets of the road lobby.

And hey - at least there *is* a public transport system in Poland.

Study / Which university (erazmusem)? Poznań, Lublin, Krosno and Białsko-Biała. [17]

My actual favourite is Poznań, because I heard that UAM is the oldest university of these and it has a proven quality.

It's not a bad choice, but the accomodation that they put exchange students into frankly sucks.

The Polish department is in a rather nice old building in Poznan - but the quality of the programme is rather poor, from what I've heard.

Law / I was fined for not having a tram ticket in Poland. How does this affect me? [68]

dirty

Perhaps it might be so in some village, but in Poznan -

- clean, new trams. Even the older Konstal ones are getting renovated.
- who speaks to tram/bus drivers? the stops and the buses contain all the information you need
- it's very reliable. Peak time service from my suburban place to the centre is trams every 3 minutes.
- Poznan MPK is very efficient.
- cheap as chips

Does anyone know how this work in szczecin poland?

Depends if they can be bothered to chase you up for it. Polish bureaucrats are very petty - they'll spend hours chasing someone. I'm more surprised that they allowed you to get away with it without a Karta Pobytu/Dowod Osobisty, but that's their fault. The sensible thing to do is to go and pay - much easier than risking them taking you to court, finding you guilty in your absence and then you getting found out in the future.

About my only problem with Polish public transportation is the morons they employ to check tickets. But this is the same in almost any country - revenue enforcement officers tend to be morons by nature as the job doesn't involve compassion or understanding.

Work / Information about jobs for Indian students in Poland [286]

is there any kind of racism against international students in warsaw or gangs targetting international students like in russia??

Not particularly so.

However, there are no jobs for Indian students. Don't even come here expecting to make money - it's just not possible. Poland is not the way to milk and honey like your agent promised you - in fact, it's very likely that you'll find it incredibly difficult to do anything after finishing the studies.

History / "I was more afraid of fellow Poles than Nazi German Officers", says Bartoszewski [130]

A snapshot can't help you fully learn the situation.

A snapshot is more than adequate when it comes to dull stories such as "dead crododile baffles police". I really don't need to learn about the full situation.

I mean, if you have time to read stories about dead crocodiles, you're welcome - but I'm too busy.

Gumishu - the picture doesn't depict Polish looters at Treblinka? So...what does it depict?
