History / Which nation were the biggest pussies of WWII? [120]

I meant more on the long term strategic side of things. I mean Hitler wrote exactly what he was going to do nearly 15 years before the invasion.

You misunderstand Polands position, after WW1 when the frontline went through Poland there were no factories, no industry no nothing and because of German and Russian embargo and the rest of the world in crisis or viewing Poland as a season state almost no one invested.

Poland had to rebuilt its industry from scratch, Polish army was not outdated because Poles were bad at organizing stuff but because Poland was p*ss poor and all that was done had to be done with domestic resources, by 1939 Polish economy was about the size of the city of Berlin.

As for political plans they were good but there just wasnt much Poland could do, we could aquire strong allies and we did, the rest was up there with the French and to a lesser extent the British.

Oh, well - I'll leave it to Sokrates to defend his statement then.

I said Poland had more victories then the Western allies untill DD didnt you learn to not even read what Harry writes? You just keep feeding him by even noticing his posts.

Among the battles won by the Poles are: the battle of Pułtusk, the German storming of Warsaw, the battle of Wólka Węglowa, the battle of Kałuszyn, the battle of Mokra, the battle of Szack, the Battle of Bukowiec.

All in all Poles won more then 20 large scale engagements against Germans, thats more won battles then the Western allies combined untill D-day (including the defeat of Rommel).

Of course it couldnt have made a difference but the case holds.

Also Poland alone and attacked by two countries inflicted approximately 70% of losses the combined forces of France, UK and the Low Countries did a year later

my apologies, bad planners, not pussies.

I agree absolutely, although if the Polish commanders would be good planners the war would have lasted a whooping two weeks longer, maybe.

You listed the French, which is interesting as France went to war because of Poland.

Nope, France declared war and then sat on its arse and drank coffee doing zip untill Germans made them realise that it never was fun&games.

If France did go to war then it'd end there and then in Berlin, Poland might or might not get overrun by the Soviets but the West would have benefitted, no Nazi occupation for France, no bombing of London etc.

The Romans managed to get across as did the Normans. It didn't save most of the world from the British either did it?

As pointed out by WB in dark ages and in the classical period everyone moved freely on the basis of no one having any recon capacity beyond 30 miles radius.

2mil:950k
90 divisions:40 divisions

Poland never had 950k nor 40 divisions it had 38 division on paper, the nominal number of troops completely mobilised was around 800k from which less then 600k made it to combat, Germany had 1.8 milion active troops, Russia had 650k and Slovakia had around 50k for a total of around 2.5 milion men against 600-800 mobilized Poles, thats 3/4-1.

Anyway, fighting ferociously against an invading army is all well and good, but they turned over fairly quickly. Because of working harder and not smarter, Poland got the sh*t kicked out of it.

The question is could any other country with Polish resources and numbers in place of Poland not turn over just as quickly? Polish defeat had nothing to do with working hard or smart and everything with being grossly outnumbered on every field and having enough modern equipment to outfit maybe 2 or 3 divisions.

Everywhere where Poles did have equal strength in equipment and men it made a difference, including at the battle of Bzura where only when grossly outnumbered they fell.

Again why would you qualify Poles as wusses? Did they or did they not represent strength of character, skill in conducting operations, bravery on both individual and army level or national integrity? Because being a wuss is not the same as being militarily weak unless you started your own definition.

Congatulation to Sokrates winner of the inaugural "silliest quote of the week" contest with this beauty below.

Would you like me to recount British defeats since 1939 till Rommel got the boot vs Polish victories in 1939?:))

So Poland didn't get the sh*t kicked out of it?

Wuss: A person regarded as weak or timid and especially as unmanly

Given that Poland fought ferociously, very often to the last bullet and soldiers surrendered only if all options were exhausted and even then many chose to die fighting thats hardly a wussy defeat.

I also understand that Poles were outnumbered 2:1 by the invaders. I also know that they were massively outgunned. That led to them getting the sh*t kicked out of them.

Between Slovaks, Russians and Germans vs Poland.
4:1 in people.
11:1 airplanes.
12:1 tanks.
20:1 armored cars.

Being a wuss =/= losing.

History / Which nation were the biggest pussies of WWII? [120]

Poland got the **** kicked out of it. 10 years to prepare and ended up falling in a month.

First major tank battle took place in Poland, first major land battle with over half a milion troops on both sides took part in Poland, first major air battles took part in Poland.

Of course Poland fell, attacked from two sides by countries that had a 100 years economic head start on account of not being destroyed while Poland had to build its industry from scratch, it still doesnt change the fact that it had more succesfull engagements in a month then the Allies had in all the years untill D-Day.

So apart from being an uneducated moron having an opinion and zip knowledge you were saying what?;)

Where does Poland fit into your list?

Nowhere, Poland put up a badass resistance that could not be and was not effective but badass none the less.

This list doesn't make much sense..

Only because you're stupid, the topic is about the biggest wusses. The way i see it its about groups that performed badly when having all the conditions for success or like the Jews didnt perform at all.

ially im thinking France although many others spring to mind.

Italy, first they invaded Abyssynia which had a total of 3 tanks and 5 airplanes and it still took them half a year to bring down a bunch of n*ggers with a few rifles, then they managed to get beaten by Greece which had about half their numbers and got rolled over by a massively inferior british force in Africa.

I retract France atleast they put up an initial fight.

No they did not, bar a few engagements their performace was so f*cking humiliating its not even funny, they win second place after Italians.

Italians.
French.
Jews.

Do you honestly think the Germans hadnt grassped a concept of this and accouted for it

They didnt need to 99% of the jewish populace went quietly to the gas chambers.

So why didnt you jump in with the Gerries then. Perfect opportunity to slam home a win. Luftwaffe bases in Ireland within easy striking distance of all the UK. Handed on a platter really...

Because that would be an awesome excuse to annex Ireland, again, also the Irish position was more about "we hate Brits" more then "we love Nazis" they were basically middle fingering London more then supporting Germany.

I dont think you could find bigger patriot than me

You just managed to smear thousands of our soldiers, better people than you, you little pr*ck, my sh*t is a bigger patriot then you.

The difference between me and you is that I am advocating another direction

And what would that direction be? P*ssing on the memory of our nation finest?

I wonder where would Germans and Russians meet if they started conquering us.

Probably in economic collapse land, both of them would win against Poland but both of them cant afford such a war financially and politically and in Russias case probably also militarily since a Finnland scenario would be likely.

They sure did.Some even POSTHUMOUSLY.

And whats strange about that? If a soldier dies while performing his duties in an outstanding way he's regularly awarded a medal in all countries, only cretins who spit on their own countries, like you wouldnt know that:)

So, which of those would be the equivalent to the Iron Cross? The Virtuti Militari?

Nope, Virtuti Military is roughly equivalent to Victorias Cross or Medal of Honor, the highest medal awarded.

The full name is Krzyż Kawalerski Orderu Krzyża Wojskowego or The Noble Cross of the Coat of Arms of the Army Cross (yeah its a mouthfull) there's several others with spellable names too but i dont remember those.

The amount of soldiers now is not as important as earlier...

The amount of reserves is, in any theoretical conflict Russia would attrition the living sh*t out of Poland in 2-3 months, we dont have enough hardware, Russians do.

I am wondering are the Russian army stronger than the Polish ?

Ofc it is, they have one milion soldiers ffs, numbers dont always decide who's stronger but if you have 10 times the size of an army they do, even with the horrible quality of their military thats still a million men.

Why 96?.. Maybe 120 - or 144?... :-)

Because then we'd have two wings instead of one, 2x48, with 96 modern fighters we'd be set for 20 years also there was money for it however none of the politicians was willing to take responsibility for such a huge purchase so it ended with a single wing of 48.

In reality, Poland is almost non-existing player on world's defence market.

Compared to Germany or US? Yes, compared to any post soviet republic however its a giant.

Malaysia bought only several dozen of tanks. If you meant a tank contest in Peru,

Nope i meant WZT-3 purchase.

As for Iraq - Poland managed to gain a little fraction of orders for rifles and armoured cars, while US manufacturers are benefiting from destroying of Iraqi equipment by the US Army.

And that little fraction was still a large order in itself so your point is?

Naturally, if you refer to avionics and radar, not to the airframe itself...

Which is what matters since the airframe did not change for 30 years bar stealth machines so basically its still a XXI cent fighter jet able to fight on equal footing with any machine except the most advanced american air superiority fighters.

How many? Two prototypes 10 years ago? ;-)

Last i checked we've got 8 and 6 more rolling down in the first quarter of 2010 for a total of 48 till 2012 so whats the point of your baiting?

It could: Gripen. While it's at least equally good, it's cheaper, especially in service.

But its not as good, in fact its not nearly as good in air superiority role and has less of a modernisation potential given that we knew we'd buy less then 100 fighters quality machines were sought after more then economic class fighter like the Grippen, the only reason why Czechs bought it was because they have much less money to burn then Poland.

You mean like these antique C-130's Poland "got" from the US? And what about the technical problems these F-16's suffered until now - including emergency landings when ferrying them to Poland?

No C-130s are a joke, F-16s however were a solid purchase well worth the money, my only beef is that we bought 48 instead of 96 but thats our f*cked up politicians for you.

It's like explaining that sun is shining.. You are not very into the subject, read first... Ukraine is amongst 5th world-leaders in producing and exporting modern weapon, including tanks which belong to the best in the world...

Ukraine is exporting weapons and subsystems to no one at the moment, by comparison Poland recently had deals with Malaysia, India, Peru and Iraq.

You are kidding, right?.. F-16, technology from 70s

Last i checked the technology we have in our F-16s is from the 2000s and is all the way up there with the most modern aircraft in the world.

We have no modern aircrafts, 65% of our tanks are T-72 from soviet times, our weapon is old and outdated, that's the truth about Polish army..

Actually we have 48 awesomely modern F-16s, 30 adequate MiG-29s and approximately 40 SU-22s used in ground attack role, all in all around 70~ fighters and 40 ground attack aircraft and our airforce ranks in the top 5 best trained forces in the world, we're so far ahead of any post-communist republic its not even funny.

As for our tanks we have currently 116 modern 2A4s, 200~ semi modern PT-91s and some 600~ T-72s and unlike say Ukraine which has 2000 tanks but only 500-600 capable of even moving all 940 of our tanks are operational and our tankers are counted among the elite in their class in NATO.

Claimings like: "Polish army is the best amongst armies of postcommunist countries" are obvious lies and I really don't see a reason of your primitive propaganda of success..

Well... lets look at what Poland bought in the last 10 years:

600+ XXI century generation APCs.
48 F-16s.
Spike AT systems.
Krab - XXI century SPH artillery system.
Liwiec - next gen artillery radar.
And lots more.

What did Ukraine or Belarus bought in the last 10 years? Ukraine bought 8 modernized tanks, Belarus bought nothing.

We're working on light tanks, next gen IFVs, next gen infantry components, autonomous combat robotics and XXI century rifle projects, the remaining post soviet countries cant even dream about the purchases and research we're doing in Poland.

Sure Polish military has a long way to go but if you're comparing us to weak states like Ukraine or Belarus there's no contest, Poland could probably defeat both countries at the same time in an unlikely event of the war.

If you are european you should.Americans do give a **** about their industry(Boeing vs Northrop/Airbus tanker contract).

Europe could not offer us an equally good/cheap fighter aircraft and i'm not going to see my country throw out money it has little of.

How about Eurofighter Typhoon?

Its too new, after they refine it for 5+ years its going to be markedly superior but right now its not really superior also our F-16s are one of the latest blocks which makes them very good by any standards.

Another reason is that Typhoons are significantly more expensive due to how f*cked up their development program was.

Poland should have bought Grippens (like Czechs did) and support european industry

Why? Grippens are worse on a number of fields.

and support european industry.uuups I forgot that PL is a "troyan donkey" in EU.Never mind.

As far as our military is concerned i dont give a sh*t about european industry, we're relatively poor so if we have to cough up so much money its better to pay for the best quality available for the price, in this case F-16s were the best our money could buy.

Even poor Ukraine places itself amongst world-leaders of arms-industry...

Ukraine cant even feed its soldiers and its industry is collapsing, i wonder where you get such info?

Belarus could conquer Poland with using conventional military means in a week,

Erm, Belarus could mobilize maybe 8 brigades, maybe, they'd get run over without effort.

Total destruction of national Polish arms-industry was a priority for all political parties and organisations in Poland functioning from 1989 which seems to be a syndrome of a self-destructive insanity in present, dangerous times..

Actually despite some problems our industry is doing great and our military is by far the most modern and capable out of all former communist countries, we've got modern AWIFVs, modern AT assets, 48 latest block F-16s which are currently the best fighters in Europe and more, none of the countries you mentioned comes even close in military capacity.

Another source of useful information: Ukraine - 25th, Poland -30th

Erm ... Globalfirepower gives a statistic based on nominal numbers, its worthless. Ukraine according to various estaimtes maintains between 500 and 600 functional tanks despite having over 2000 nominally.

Polish F-16s alone are enough to secure victory by simply arseraping any Eastern European airforce bar Russian.

You sir are either an idiot or a troll.

That was in a general order and it was enforced.

I read an account by Radek Sikorski about his Grandma (I think) almost being raped together with some other German woman in his book Full Circle, and there wasn’t much they could do about it, besides hiding and being surrounded by a lots of Polish men.

Sikorski is among the PO politicians associated with German christian-democratic circles as well as with American-Jewish circles, he has every reason to produce biased accounts.

Does she talk to you in Kashub language? I know someone who is from Gdansk and she doesn't understand when her parents talk to her uncle in Kashub.

Is she by any chance retarded? Kashubian dialect is perfectly understandable, there's a few words or phrases that might be an issue but by and large its perfectly understandable.

To put it simply its just a funny sounding Polish not a completely different language.

I see, still you did not answer my question.

What question?

Where did I say that they don't feel Polish, be so kind to quote, ars*hole? Don't regional minorities speak other languages in Poland?

Nope, they speak other dialects but its still 100% Polish language.

Where are you from, king polkagamon? If you are from Poland, tell me whether you would be able to conduct business on a personal, not even state, level with a Gural or Kashub? And here we are talking about separate languages. Do Bulgarians use interpreters as well? If yes, why?

My girlfriend is Kashubian, never needed an interpreter, sorry Nathan but unlike Ukraine with its huge Russian minority Polish minorities are ethnically and culturally Polish (hence we're not facing disintegration as a state like you do) :))

Nation's survival never lies in the hands of allies, it lies within the nation. Only its will determines its future, not allies or enemies

Dude you have no economy, no army and half of your nation is not sure whether its Russian or Ukrainian, if anyone as much as farts your way your country will fall over and die, the better part of wisdom is to recognize your weakness and seek to remedy it, as far as it goes your economy is still shrinking.
