Travel / Stag Parties in Kraków [119]

Yes, but the European Court overruled that. You have to be actually doing something bad. Weaving along the pavement is within the range of normal behaviour.

taking idiots to the drunk tank is pretty much a revenue generator!

That's true. Mind you, the police have now cottoned on that if they take someone there on the grounds of the alcohol level in their blood and general carousing and merriment rather than actual disorderly or dangerous conduct, they are liable to be sued for compensation in the European court. A woman in Warsaw got 7000 Euros for that recently.

yes, Krakow really appreciates people pissing on every monument in town...

Quite. The stag party people are a nuisance. The Polish authorities banning both the adverts encouraging them and the Polish companies who organise them would go a long way to stopping this.

UK, Ireland / Polish workers humiliated at the Laurens Patisseries - protest [45]

Here in Poland shops like Biedronka, Żabka and Tesco closed on Sunday. Ostensibly in mourning, but in fact it is the quietest day of the week and one in which the shopfloor staff, among the lowest paid people in the country, receive overtime on which they depend.

News / Komorowski, acting president, is a shower! [51]

wondering about whether to re-elect him.

Betty Boothroyd and Tony Benn are a bit too old now, David Lammy is too young and Mo Mowlem is too dead. And that Cameron is just a frightening thought who probably thinks that Leeds and Manchester are villages somewhere in Shropshire.

I quite like Radosław Sikorski, but Poland could do a lot worse than Komorowski.

You can't compare the well oiled, efficient, time tested machinery of the UK State versus an emerging democracy in Poland - it's just not comparable.

That's true. In Warsaw it's often better to deal with people on the Rada Gminy. They rely on far fewer votes to win or lose so they are slowly starting to realise that they have to be seen to be useful.

News / Will todays tragedy effect the economy of Poland? [34]

Even a small fluctuation in the exchange rate can make a big difference if you issue invoices pegged to one currency and have to pay people's wages on time in another.

News / Will todays tragedy effect the economy of Poland? [34]

For a few days certainly. A lot depends on whether the Warsaw financial markets open as usual on Monday or if they close for mourning which might be practical as well as appropriate. Also the loss of the head of the NBP at the same time is a factor.

Long term, probably not much except that the new President is from Platforma and is therefore far more likely to support the party's programme than exercise his veto.

Work / Polish MD degree; is it the same as MMed? [5]

All first level medical degrees are equivalent - the name varies from country to country - in the UK different universities even use different names. MD, BM, MMD, DM etc; the important thing is that it gives a recognised qualification to join a professional body and practise medicine.

UK, Ireland / Female health in Britain - Polish view [105]

or sat on a pub toilet,

At least the UK has pub toilets, not just one tiny loo (locked, key behind the bar and cleaned once a week) like in Poland.

News / Crucifixes to stay in Polish schools [364]

I generally agree, but in hospitals (in the news this week) dangly jewellery is generally forbidden for sound reasons.

I find it reasonable to get your Polka run a test for chlamydia and gonorrhea before you start sth with her.

But since you are virgo intacta the woman at least doesn't need to worry.

Travel / Moving To Krakow, looking for hidden gems [25]

i thought you are talking about Nowa Huta

Yes Nowa Huta! It doesn't draw the tourists, but if you're around there anyway (I used to spend Monday to Friday there) it's got some nice places especially in summer.

Travel / Moving To Krakow, looking for hidden gems [25]

Have a look at some of the streets off the main square - there's a nice restaurant with tables outside and a big bar a couple of doors down.

Travel / Krakow a safe and friendly city for foreigners? Read this! [161]

Shows what they think of Poles and Czechs.

Good for their travel plans that Britain welcomes them with open arms. Just a shame that some of the more chamski posters here talk about attacking foreign tourists.

a defense treaty with Poland.

Which as you know was fulfilled. Though you are off-topic.

Mind you America doesn't even let Poles go there without a visa or work without a green card, does it? Shows what the Americans really think of Poles.

You are suggesting that the likelihood is greater in Poland so the onus is on you to provide the stats.

You Derek, can presumably use the internet.

And after being attacked in Poland, I'm not surprised they didn't want to use the language!
