Language / The Polish language - it's bloody hard! [210]

Australia and Canada, Commonwealth countries hence British English ;)

Nah, politics and linguistics do not overlap in this respect too much. There ain't no British English but in Britain.

Spelling here is kinda British but Canadian English is slowly becoming less colourful and becomes colorful instead. Vocabulary and pronunciation is more American than British.

Canadians use fortnight?

Americans, Canadians and Aussies all use the word, although in the US it is fairly infrequent.

A 'fortnight' means two weeks, from 'fourteen nights', used exclusively in British English.

Nope, that ain't correct.

Jestem zadowalony z twoim zdaniem a zgadzam się z wieloma innymi rczeczami, które mówiłas!!

Neither is this.

Now, (anybody) how about the meaning of Polish "kokcielić pardwę" ?

See you in court. Bring a very good lawyer.

I'll give it a wait.
The way you spew hatred against Poles there may be no need. Someone living in Poland and reading the hate filled posts of yours may take care of you beforehand. I would be neither surprised nor sad.

More lies from our favourite anti-semite.

You are making two mistakes here:

- calling me an antisemite, which is a libel
- calling me your "favourite" antisemite, which indicates you support antisemites.

If not succumbing to national myths and having an independent point of view means you're a polonophobe

Agreed on succumbing to national myths, but the kind of independent thought he displays here is not much different from that which makes some people write 2+2=5.

I've never felt that he has any sort of bias against Poles or Poland.

I can't argue with you you feel or not. I feel different about him.
Here he comes across as a anti-Polish hate monger to more people than just me.

Well, z_darius, in fact I know where Harry makes his living, and cheap pamphlets it ain't.

He conceded that he produces 3rd rate pamphlets (for 1st rate pay). You may not be unaware of what he does in his spare time. :)

And he hardly rates as a "polonophobe", either.

If he really knows how to make a good use of words (as per your suggestions) and yet he paints Poles and Poland with the very wide brush, as he does, then it all points to him being a chronic polonophobe. There is no analysis, no thought in his posts - just childish fight to set some catch phrases in readers' minds - Poland ran concentration camps!

It's a pity that an inflamatory creature like that lives in Poland, makes a living in Poland and, and that New Warsaw Express considers it appropriate to employ such hateful individuals.

But some of your countrymen don't seem to get the difference.

It's not just "some of your countrymen". Ask anybody in UK, US, EU or pretty much anywahere in the world what the word "concentration camp" stands for. The term has become a buzz word and, is more often than not, understood as a death camp where Jews where killed.

As a self styled scribe you should at least be open to understanding of the issue. Words are supposed to be your tools of the trade. If you can't use them then you should learn a lot more before speaking up. If you understand them then you are just a repulsive polonophobe filled with hatred to anything Polish.

Has anyone here noticed that you're talking about two different things - concentration camps and death camps?

I tried to point to some it but the flier writing scribe won't pick the theme up. He's a catch phrases kind of fella. Not surprising for a scribe who lives off low grade pamphlets.

Life / Polish culture do's and dont's? [106]

I had other drivers and the local constabulary flicking their lights at me as a reminder.... No tickets though...

It's a new law so they may be lenient at this time . Poland joined DLR (daylight running lights) last year.

Other European countries where DLR is required: Finland, Norway, Iceland, Denmark, Hungary.

Officially no US state has a DLR law, but more and more vehicles have DLR as an option.

From my experience DLR does help, since without it some vehicles blend in with the background and are sometimes spotted a bit to late to avoid collision etc.

* always turn your lights on as soon as you start your car. i dont know why, but everyone drives around with here lights on full even in broad daylight and sun...bizzare!

As far as I know it's a law in Poland. Same in Canada, some US states and a bunch of other countries.

Oh goodie, it's such an important opinion to me.

You haven't proven otherwise by your repeated "Poland ran concentration camps" rote. Why don't you prove the unimportance of PF to you and vote by hitting the Logout link in your profile.

it is hard to imagine a clearer situation in which somebody would be able to prove that their reputation has been defamed and that such may well have an economic impact on them.

Harry, so you admit that your posts here are garbage and any possible association with the named companies and individuals would strip them of their alleged reputation.

Finally!

Tut tut tut, you want to join the suit or something?

Ouch, I'm so afraid of the keyboard warrior. You can kiss my virtual as.s. Wipe the screen afterwards.

ela_lawyer

Very interesting info.
I always knew one should not fool around with lawyers :)

I wonder if his employer and senior managers know that Harry is a polonophobe and defames Poland on public forums every chance he gets.

Hey...I'm german too and I have nothing against the "german" in "concentration camp"!

You're good because you are a true German and don't blame others for what happened before you were even born.

And the post-war camps which were staffed entirely by Poles and run on the orders of the Polish government (which was composed entirely of Poles) were not Polish cam

You are really a booklet writing type, striving for catchy and, in this thread, sensationalist, phrases. Poles ran concentration camps! Wow! Bad, bad Poles! Jew killers!

Let's start with what a concentration camp is and who ran them.

Notice that Israel is not on the list since they only run Palestinian ghettos.

As for calling me vulgarly a 'sick fvck,'

Constructive comments get constructive responses. Sick fvcks get what they deserve. You are a Polish version of a nazi.

I don't find any sarcasm in his post. Do you find it? Where exactly? Please, point it to me.

If you can't find it in such a short text then you don't want to find it, so I won't waste my time on you.

As for your cutting in, is it a case of one Polonophobe defending another?

You are not a representative of Poland or Poles at all. If you were, I would renounce my Polish heritage today. You are just a sick fvck who forgets his meds way too often. There is no difference between you and Harry.

Harry

Harry, you already changed the tone of your "Poles did this, Poles did that" because even you realize you are busted here. That is good. The rest of what you do here is just naughty, naughty throbbing.

Run along kiddie or you'll feel the back of my hand.

Another keyboard warrior, huh?

Possibly you are envious (I am) that Harry is not burdened with citizenships nationalisms etc.

It appears you haven't read a whole lot of what he wrote on this forum. He is very much burdened with citizenship and nationalism. He holds two passports and he was interested in 5 more, but it turns out he cannot have them all. Harry's other posts are also a clear indication he is burdened with nationalism. To him, it weren't some scumbags who helped Germans to kill Jews (among others, but he concentrates on Jews) but those were Poles. In fact, only in some of his latest posts he states that "some" Poles helped Nazis. For quite a while "some Poles" meant to him the same as Poles. While he did not use the word "all", the use of a nationality's name is a generalization. It's grammar and it's a custom - not only in Poland.

Question not related: Both my parents were getting very substantial pension supplement (I think after 1992) they both were AK officers. I never asked and now is too late. Anyone knows what that was all about?

Incidentally, this is related to the other paragraph the same post as this question. AK were Polish patriots (to Harry they hunted Jews, among other activities) who formed a military underground governed by the Polish government in exile. The were also anti-communist and anti-USSR. Some Polish citizens could apply for increased pension if they could prove they were WW2 veterans. They had to apply, otherwise nobody would come and ask them to accept extra cash.

It boils down to them declaring they have been patriots in order to get a bit more.

The quote from your father looks a bit silly now, doesn't it?

UK, Ireland / What do Polish people think about Wales and Welsh people? [191]

I can't find anything to dislike about the Welsh.
I like the Welsh band The Budgie. Pretty sparse and simple music. Not sure what the are up to these days but in the 70's they would sound pretty well.

Don’t want to miss a chance to kick the Jews, do you?

Don't want to miss a chance to kick the Jews, do you?

Harry, the world is not about Jews and yes, there is antisemitism. Always have and always will. That anti -ism is applicable to many other nations, except that they don't whine as much as Jews do, and certainly did not make an industry out of the whining.

If you really feel Poland was so bad for the Jewish people throughout the last millennium, and if you feel there is still so much antisemitism there then what's stopping you? Can be a job. Or is is a lawsuit to get a property or two "back"? Pack your toys and get the fvck out. I'm sure they need brave soldiers in Israel. There are still plenty of Palestinian women and kids to kill or dosplace.

Seeing as how there were only 20 Jews alive in Warsaw after the Nazis left, they might not be the best people to ask.

Strange.
According to your propaganda sources Poles should have killed them.

Language / "Na" and "W" , when to use? [15]

'ku' taken from the Russian word 'k'

Nope. Wrong again. You should really put away that soviet linguistic gibberish that you're soaking in.

The preposition is very ancient and predates any mutual exchanges which took place after the languages differentiated sufficiently to be considered distinct.

The word "ku" appears in Wendish/Sorbian dialects, as well as in Illirian languages such as Albanian. Did Illirian peoples wait a few centuries for the Russian to cristalize and then to incorporate the word into their languages?

In Russian "ku" looses the vowel (in some cases) and it is a simplification of the PreRussian "ku".

Just thought you might wanna know.

History / Poland's King Jan III Sobieski - the stopper of Turkish Janissaries! [64]

This calculation look so easy :) Nobody could guarantee that he would defeat the Turks in different conditions, many issues should be analyzed. Different strategical position, improved morals of Turkish army and many more.

Sure, there are no guarantees. Just like there were no guarantees when Sobieski went on the trip to Vienna. I still think the British got it worked out the best: divide and rule, which loosely would apply here.

e could also wait patiently till Turks recover their forces after capturing Vienna and attack us.

No. He should have waited for Austrians, Saxons, Germans and Turks to bleed a little longer. and then, reluctantly, hit Turks. At the time Turks wouldn't have dreamed of attacking Poland, so soon after their latest defeat.
