to agree with the question, "Is it right, or justified, that the USA does not give Poland visa free travel?"

I don't agree with my friend and I don't agree with you.

tygrys wrote:

So why do Poles get mad when their visas are refused?

i just had this conversation with one of my best polish friends last night.

i asked him the same question and basically he said, "respect". it pisses him off that Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, countries that do nothing for America have visa waivers, yet Poland does not. he didn't necessarily say that Poland through the years has done "oh so much" for america and that's why they should be in the VWP, rather that he doesn't like how countries that do nothing for america somehow are in the VWP.

i can see the frustration.

there is still a significant concern whether it be America's or Poland's concern that if they give them visa free travel, too many poles will wind up in america illegally. I don't think America simply doesn't like Poland, or that they are doing it intentionally as some form of disprespect like some people ramble on about on this forum.....and I guess the only way we'll ever find out if in fact too many Poles will overstay their visas if Poland enters the VWP is if the day finally comes that they can travel visa free. Until then, it's only speculation. I have my own opinions on the whole thing but I'll never know for sure till that day comes.

warm climates, good choice. which did you like the best? it's odd you didn't end up somewhere a wee bit warmer in europe, seeing you like warmer climates, no?

plus, imagine how much cheaper Walmart shorts and tank-tops would be.

this has nothing to do with pretentiousness, it's the fact that you have A pair of jeans and A shirt for an entire month.

fashion aside, that's just gross.

it's a bit strange coming from a guy who claims to own apartments and such all over Europe, airplanes, has his own company.....you'll always be a mystery to me, convex.

this i most certainly cannot agree with. i have found myself in many situations where a pole judged me because I am american even before i opened my mouth and when i did, it was only downhill from there. it used to happen in class as well. i remember having to notify a school director about a year ago that i couldn't do one of their contracts anymore because of the horribly flagrant america hater I had in my class....and he was in his 40's. he literally confronted me the first day of class, demanding an answer to "why poland isn't in the VWP? we're an EU country! I want to go there but they won't let me! this stupid country won't let me visit!" after a few more classes of similar treatment I had to resign before saying something I would have regretted.

are you talking about Oklahoma's gas prices? just checked online, it's around $2.70, national avg. is still under $3.00.

so dude, $100 of Walmart clothing? what do you plan on doing, wearing the same bad clothing the entire month long trip?

classy, man. you'll need them guns to keep all those women at bay.

I guess Oklahoma marches to the beat of a different drum.

I decided about 5 years ago that I wanted to live/work outside the US for a while and I chose Poland only because I have Polish roots.

Am I disappointed in Poland? No. That wouldn't be fair to say. Was I hoping for something different? Yes, but that's nobody's fault but my own. I chose to live here. Now I know what it's like.

That's really it.

USA, Canada / Not everyone that lives or comes from America is RICH! [300]

peterweg wrote:

Personally I'd prefer a healthy life than to spend it in ill health knowing an ambulance would save me a few more times.

for most people, this would certainly be the better option but i feel it is person dependent.

for someone such as myself, maybe not as a child because I simply had less control over these sorts of things, but now, as a person in my 30's, I'd rather take the "american" system. I pay very close attention to my diet and exercise quite intensely nearly every day. I have no cancer in my family, I don't struggle with obesity or high blood pressure or diabetes, I don't get sick much, so someone like me doesn't really need so much "preventative" care but i sure would like to have the best medical care available in case of a catastrophe.

in a perfect world, people would all exercise and eat properly and pay close attention to their health, utilizing today's medical advancements only for things that are beyond their control, but we all know that the majority of people do not fall under that category.

Interestingly enough with all the gun violence, lack of healthcare, and terrible diet, lack of exercise, Americans still live just as long as Europeans...

what generally offsets the healthcare problem in america is that america still ranks #1 in emergency medical care, which means that america is probably the best country in the world to abuse your health because you'd have the best chance of surviving it. more second, third, fourth chances.

Greenpoint in Brooklyn is pretty nice. :-)

honestly, it's not. most people in greenpoint are quite poor, there's nothing aesthetic about the place (aside from a few historic districts, every town has people with money)....but for what it's worth, I still dig Greenpoint. I had a friend who lived there and loved it. Brooklyn in itself is a pretty fun town but you would never walk through the polish section of Greenpoint and say, "this is a nice town." it's run down looking like every other polish town i've ever been to.

what about 'Na Wspolnej' or 'M jak Milosc' or any of the other ridiculous TV series poland has. these were created by them so it obviously wasn't "too risky" to make those....and they all SUCK.

that, and the fact that nobody in the entertainment industry here is creative enough to come up with their own programs. if they could come up with their own 'Friends' or 'Seinfeld' or '2 1/2 Men'.....they would.

Seanus wrote:

Poles do come across VERY strongly as being book based. If it isn't in the book, it's of lesser status or doesn't exist at all.

Yep, gonna get flamed, but I'll just put it out there.....I generally see Polish people as uncreative and this "bookish" style of education may be a big contributor.

I never turn on the radio and here a new polish song worth listening to, I rarely find Polish people to have a genuinely clever sense of humor (more just straight forward and old fashioned), there are no TV personalities worth watching.....I just rarely see something truly creative being done by a pole.

Are there smart poles? sure. hard working? of course. really creative......not really in most cases. I mean how many TV shows that air on Polish TV are actually something orignally polish? it either sucks, or is a total ripoff of something else.....AND sucks simultaneously. 'Usta Usta' still completely blows my mind. they literally took a TV series from the UK and copied it, verbatum, episode by episode, just inserted polish actors. it would be like if Poland redid 'Friends', only it would be with Kasia, Joanna, Magda, Pawel, Grzeszek and Tomek.

and no, it has nothing to do with money. you can write a good catchy song with a cheap guitar and drum set but honestly PF.....what was the last polish song you heard on the radio where you went, "YEAH, that song ROCKS!"

???????

take any country in the middle east. most women would not want to live/work there for obvious reasons.

regarding all Scandanavian countries, you have to like long, brutal winters along with the sunlight issues.

Singapore seems like a good option but i've never been there. everyone i know who has visited Singapore really liked it. also they have basically year round summer weather which is a big plus for me but it also rains on avg. 177 days per year.

USA, Canada / Canada Increasingly a Gateway for Undocumented Polish Immigrants Entering the U.S. [150]

jwojcie wrote:

Support that with some numbers please...

i have no numbers at all, i think my post suggested that. i was just making logical deductions from your numbers.

jwojcie wrote:

I hope that you are aware that 1996 was fourteen years ago? Simple linear extrapolation would suggest that if between 1988 and 1996 yearly medium rate of decline was 25000/8 = 3125, then (2010-1996)*3125=43750
so according to this now would be around 70000-43750=26250 illegal Poles in US.

you know as much as I do that your linear extrapolation is meaningless.

jwojcie wrote:

Which is completely immaterial anyway because illegals in US are not a base for 9,8% refusal rate but lucky guess of US clerk...

of course it's not a perfect system, but some sort of filtering method needs to be in place and the current one although not perfect is successful many times. for those that don't get through but were legitimately going to visit the USA and come right back, sure it sucks for them, but america saves more tax money keeping obvious future illegals out than they do stopping a few "legit" poles every year from spending a few bucks in the USA during their short visit.

@f&&&visas

what is all this money you speak of? A plane ticket using LOT from Warsaw to the USA can be bought for under 2000zl. anybody can save up 2000zl. hell, even if it takes them a year or two to do it, they can save it up and get themselves to the USA.

anyone who is so desperate to go, who doesn't live well back home, is an intending immigrant.

could you elaborate more on this? i don't think i know what you are trying to say.
