News / THE PARTYS OVER... NO MORE EUROS FOR POLAND'S ROADS [71]

Gumishu,is Poland capable of paying for it herself?

no it isn't - what is your point? - btw the road projects have to be financed by Poland in half - so it's not free building spree funded by Europe

News / THE PARTYS OVER... NO MORE EUROS FOR POLAND'S ROADS [71]

Poland has the most expensive roads in Europe - more expensive than mountainous Germany and Spain - there must be lots of fraud involved

The construction of one kilometer of motorway in Poland ranges from 2 to 20 million dollars - the average cost is 7.8 million dollars. This means that Poland is the highest cost of building highways among all European countries - informs "Life of Warsaw" . For comparison, in the Czech Republic, the cost of building a kilometer highway is 1 to 2 million dollars.

General Directorate of Public Roads argues that the high cost of highway construction arise from the need of additional work that must be done by certain sections of high-speed roads. These include , among others, to secure the route against mining damage . Therefore, the cost of building a 16- kilometer section of the A4 motorway between Chorzów and Sośnica was $ 160 million . However, in Macedonia, 35 - kilometer stretch of highway built in mountainous terrain , between Skopje and Testovem , cost 67 million dollars, which gives 1.9 million dollars per kilometer.

News / Characterizing Poland's political parties [33]

Not sure how is it false, since it provides a fairly accurate spectrum of polish political scene in early and mid-2000's.

it tells that the left are the most democtratic political circles in Poland which is rubbish as seen from the example of SLD governments

PiS is closer to Hitler good to know - I don't know who was making this diagramme but it is biased as hell

Life / Foreigners in Poland - the identities of our native or the host country [66]

However, since the collective attitude of officialdom reflects the popular view, I'm not surprised to find a lack of appreciation apparent if this is true. It's not the sort of 'manana' frustration one encounters in the Club Med nations but a sort of inbuilt reluctance to make things easy for foreigners. And if so, there's little a Polish government can do about it.

that's a very good point

History / Do Silesia people consider themselves to be Silesians, not Poles nor Germans? [15]

There is a Silesian dialect of German

Silesian dialect of German is almost non-existant at least in Poland (those who could speak it are mainly dead by now because of their age) - Silesian dialect of German in Germany is in similar state to Poland (though more people can still speak it but they are all very old people)

Language / When is speaking Polish showing off and when is it ok? [46]

speaking Polish is showing off when you show off with speaking Polish really this simple

if you want to practice Polish with Poles just give it a try - if people don't really want to talk to you in Polish they will let you know - btw let them know you want to practice your Polish

Life / what is a pedialyte alternative in Poland? [5]

look for gastrolit or orsalit (ask if it is suitable for children first - I read that orsalit should be suitable) or ask for 'preparaty rehydratacyjne dla dzieci' (write it on the piece of paper to show it in a pharmacy)

Travel / Bus trip from Mazury to Vilnius? [5]

When we must forget the trip to Vilnius, we can go to another, may be a better place. Do you have a suggestion?

if you organize stay for 30 people than it's pretty easy to hire a bus too - this is just one firm that hires buses: pks.olsztyn.pl/node/2

there are others too: panoramafirm.pl/wynajem_autokar%C3%B3w/warmi%C5%84sko-mazurskie,,olsztyn

you will also need an English speaking guide as bus drivers may not speak English

Travel / Bus trip from Mazury to Vilnius? [5]

From the area of Ruciane-Nida we'd like to make a daytrip to Vilnius by bus.

Ruciane is in the middle of nowhere on the transport map of Poland - I very much doubt there is any services to ?Vilnius.
You would need to go to Suwałki first to catch a regular service. How many people are you?

The best thing and most practical thing will be to hire a minibus - it will cost about 500 PLN maybe less

I checked it - there are no direct bus links between Ruciane and Suwałki either

Work / Job Offer in Gliwice at 4000zł – is it enough money? [17]

it does appear that the figure of 3000zł is actually an AFTER TAX

definitely check it with the school if it is net or gross pay - if it is gross then the money is not enough for a decent living just enough for survival
