News / Who controls Gazeta Wyborcza?? [216]

Interestingly, and I didn't know this - it seems that some of the far right nationalists also view him as a traitor, which is strange.

He broke the oath he made on joining the army. He passed secrets to a hostile foreign power. He was a traitor.

A more interesting question is: who controls Gazeta Polska, Nasz Dziennik, Rz etc.

Feedback / Why are there so many on here, who do not like Poland [150]

In some ways that's true. Poland is much bigger than some banana republic with a tourist blog, and much much bigger tha a place where some Americans' ancestors came from. It's a thriving and complex society with (in the cities anyway) and increasingly cosmopolitan population who aren't there just to write about how nice they think pierogi are or how pretty the mountains look.

Language / GCSE Polish experience. [51]

I've always found it easy though I know Poles (and others) who just can't get their heads around the grammar. Also Poles who (incredibly) don't (or pretend not to) like the food and the people.

Life / Which sim card to buy in Poland? [30]

I've seen phones that have space for two SIM cards. Popular in Iraq. Something like that would be a good idea but I don't know where you can buy them in Poland.

Not sure i agree with that, Didn't realise being possitive about somewhere is bad. I understand everyone has their own opinion but sometimes if you have nothing good to say at all ever then why comment

There's a world of difference between critical analysis and blind praise.

Travel / What is the cheapest way to get from Modlin airport to Warsaw? [106]

A quick question sort of in line with the thread. I have to arrive at Modlin (yuk) because I'm travelling from an airport that doesn't have flights to Okecie. What's the quickest (not neccessarily the cheapest) way to get into town? A taxi would do, a bus would not. What about the station at Nowy Dwor? is there a shuttle to it?

I don't think it's meant to be a collection of unfaillingly positive things however those who come on just to be negative are every bit as bad as those who come on just to uncritically praise.

Life / Polish vs British vs American - Clash of cultures [390]

What a strange thing to say. Apart from the fallacy that colonialism and imperialism are somehow immoral, you seem to consider all immigrants to be of the same low character. Odd.

Language / Przyczółkowa - Pronunciation question [11]

Very good indeed, if you’d like to sound like Helen Keller. LOL

Don't be so silly. Though your past form here suggests you might find that a challenge.

Firstly the pronunciation suggestion is fine.

Secondly, I notice you don't offer any alternative.

News / Poland's Truth Commission "IPN" to be de facto closed [80]

. Until about a year ago, retired red bigwigs were getting fatcat pensiosn

Normal everywhere. In the UK, US and Poland too, a high court judge or an army general (even a secret service one) gets a bigger pension than a dustman. Perhaps some of the US ex-military who ordered napalm to be dropped on tribespeople or who armed fascist death squads in central America should be stripped of their ill-gotten money. I would be against that since old-age pensions should not, repeat not, be messed with however according to your logic......

Worth mentioning too that the ducks and their totalitarian cronies stripped money from some people's pensions but the people you refer to as victims didn't get a penny extra on theirs. Not exactly Robin Hood...

Travel / Experiences with The Modlin Airport? [12]

Due to flight times etc I'll have to fly into Modlin in a week or so. I'd prefer Okecie but needs must. I'll post an update. It's a new airport and somehow I think it'll be OK.

Travel / Polski Bus experiences in Poland? [17]

Centralna is so much more user friendly than it used to be. Coaches are - well - coaches. With scuzzy passengers, bumpy two-lane highways, broken 'toilets' etc.

Polish railways however are an underused gem with very good food in the Wars cars, beer and wine (now the Ducks' ridiculous alcohol ban for train dining cars has been lifted), a chance to stretch your legs and to sit back with a cold beer and watch the scenery comfortably rolling by. And surprisingly cheap, even in first class. There is really no comparison.

History / Interactive map of Poland 960-2004 [43]

Yes, I see. What does it have to do with shooting at anyone ?

Pay close attention to the tank. Notice there is no sign of a flower in the gun barrel.

What, to mention that Poland invaded Czechoslovakia over absolutely nothing in 1968?

Funny how the usual suspects label anything bad as "Polonophobic" rather than being what it was.

And think that people don't notice. They are worth more than that sort of ****.

UK, Ireland / The REAL reason why so many Polish come to the UK! [19]

Or.... the English, Scottish, Welsh and NI men! So many gay men have left PL in the past few years, alas!

Indeed. But at least the fittest guys have stopped moving to Berlin. British men are just better ;-)

Are you saying I should have used "annexation" or that the map maker should have used "aneksja"?

Either one or the other - however annexation is a better word than addition. Invasion would be better yet.

So how many bullets did they fire ?

See the picture in post #23.
