Life / What do you generally think about Poles? [62]

"No atheist ever refused to take his kid to the doctor because G-d told him to pray..."

Right. That's the job of Christian Scientists.

News / An EU army. Impact on Poland [155]

The little that Trump has done right is far outweighed by the former!

Although our predecessors thus far have failed to stem the flow of erstwhile "wetbacks" from streaming illegally over our borders, a wall is surely not the long-term solution, as Trump will learn to regret as surely as his fellow leader Bibi will already have learned in the Middle East. You can't "wall people out" without there being a

severe backlash, for which I truly don't think The Donald is prepared.

Share as I do the frustrations of millions of other middle-class Americans, sick and tired of being outbid and often outnumbered by recent immigrants to the US, frequently "place holders" (the Bukharen Russians of Queens, the Koreans of Fort Lee and others), without adequate knowledge of either our language, our culture, history or way of life, Donald John Trump's nothing more than a quick fix to a slowly festering problem, not a panacea for which ever so many had hoped and still hope.

Imperfect as Merkel is, at least she seems to act out of a degree of conscience (however misguided) rather than unabashed self interest.

"Trump was chosen by the American people in the same way...."

Ahemmm, 'scuse me bro??! Trump's "election" was possibly, in fact, very likely, finagled by Putin, I don't care what the Comey people supposedly proved!

Merkel was chosen fairly and squarely by the GERMAN people, by her fellow citizens who honestly felt a need for change in their country.
Trump by contrast remains sort of the "dud prize". We couldn't get an independent Centrist, a McCain-type figure, and so we aka the South primarily, settled for this

guy and so we got him and as of yet can't get rid of him, plain and simple:-)

And so you think that the US SHOULD continue to play a leading role or that Trump is right about Europe becoming more independent...of American money?

:-)

News / An EU army. Impact on Poland [155]

After being coddled for so long by the superimposed presence of the US, even insisting that English become the lingua franca of the continent, I'm glad to hear reports from friends visiting countries OTHER than just France, Germany for instance, that even if tourists, Americans should at least speak a little of the target lingo:-)

Keep it up, Europe!

In my opinion, Europe has "depended" on the US for much too long and any trend on the continent to reverse this would be a healthy choice, both for the US as well as for Europe:-)

I've always had tremendous respect for Poland!

She's been bullied by bigger, stronger, rapacious neighbors, yet always seems to come back swinging.

Law / Lawyer familiar with EU law needed (to sue my employer in Poland) [65]

Legally, one CAN say "I am an EU citizen from Germany or France..." or from whichever is the member state belonging to the European Union, period!

This is perfectly acceptable, both grammatically as well as historically, over which one can split hairs until the last strand has fallenLOL

I see. May I further inquire as to of which country you're an EU citizen? It could be important in that, as far as I've been informed, NOT all EU-member states are subject to the same civil or criminal laws.

Perhaps I'm mistaken.

Knew of a case though several years prior concerning a German national embroiled in a suit concerning the branch office of a Czech firm in Berlin, rather than in the company's home office in the Czech Rep. Finally, she won the suit (similar in description to your own), but it took up to one year hence.

O P E U_citizen,

Don't wish to appear obstinate or anything, but is there any governmental or military organization involved in your suit at the present time? I ask only because I believe legal redress from such an institution would be next to impossible, much less collecting any financial reward or compensation for same.

Language / Using the correct grammar is stopping me from progressing with Polish language [35]

Would you share the same cavalier attitude towards YOUR native Serbian tongue?? I think not and herein lies the double standard:-)

Precisely because English is indeed a tool, one should keep one's instruments in tip-top condition, lest they become dulled or unusable through neglect!!

Incorrect grammar certainly won't stop you from "communicating", it may though impede ultimate clarity and understanding:-)

Technically, at least in the US, certain institutions may be immune from suit under the law. As I'm not familiar with either EU regulations or your

particular situation, I suggest a Polish-speaking attorney or someone conversant with Polish labor law as well.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Language / Using the correct grammar is stopping me from progressing with Polish language [35]

True, if it's not rationalized as merely an excuse for NOT knowing the language in which sarcasm etc. is being attempted.

Think of the movie "Being There" (1980). The Chauncey Gardner character was spewing purest bilge, like a young child, from beginning to end, and others were taking

him seriously.

Difference here is that Chauncey never pretended he was an expert, whereas Crow and way too many others out there justify poor, substandard, bastardized English usage behind the excuse that English can be (mis-)used in any fashion one chooses, since it (allegedly) has no standard...and what are you gonna do about it-)
