News / Confessions of a paid hater / troll in Poland [42]

Consistent with being a speaker of a Slavonic language, most likely Polish.

Probably a member of that 'hussars' troll army, looking to create online material that they and their ilk can get offended by.

Life / Anyone teach English in Poland? [3]

Is it normal for it to mention a fee if you decide to wuit the company or leave abrubtly to another country, and would they really be able to go after you for damages up to thst contract in Poland

No and no.

lso, if you steal a client and get paid directly is this something thry could get you for

Yes, if it is mentioned in the contract. In reality this doesn't happen. It is generally a bad thing to do, especially if you want more work in that town.

and again how would a dourt in Poland force you to pay if y

The bailiffs are happy to wait until you've got some income/assets.

Study / Study in Poland without English IELTS? [28]

Some lecturers are simply boring and it doesn't matter what their mother tongue or nationality is.

This is true. many (doesn't matter which country or language) just recycle old lectures year-in year-out.

I think it's party that the English taught in most European countries is dated and artificial

This is (in some countries, Poland included) partly down to some learners wanting to learn only the formal register of the language which can (and does) often sound stilted in normal speech.

Life / Are there any Muslim areas in Poland? [173]

Londonistan.

No such thing, and to get back from bigotry to the actual topic of the thread, yes there are Muslim areas in Poland and hve been for centuries.

Study / Study in Poland without English IELTS? [28]

Speaking and lecturing in a language can be two separate skills that don't go together.

This is true. I sometimes attend lectures in Polish and very few are dynamic or memorable - either the person doesn't use their notes and just rambles on, or they read from them in a monotone. I only once attended one given in English here and it was on the dry side.

Hopefully also that the instructor is as competent as the student in teaching it,

Not always - it depends on the person and the institution. Some lecturers teaching in English can barely speak it, others speak it well. Students however usually have to demonstrate that they can function in English at the appropriate level.

Work / Native English looking for a teaching job in Poland [135]

it's clearly not about the money that people usually enter the ESL-field to begin with

It's possible to earn quite a lot - providing you have above average qualifications, specific skills in teaching ESP/material writing/assessment etc and work for the right organisation.

imagine my disgust to find that my senior teacher had no TEFL cert and no bachelors. Ridiculous.

One of the best Teachers I've ever known has no degree. He'd worked in education for years though and had a DELTA as well as a CELTA. These were his only post-18 qualifications.

Why not just admit that you know nothing about teaching in Poland and you're trying to debate with people who between them have decades' experience teaching here?

Indeed.

Genealogy / Origin of surnames Szmul, Doner and Szubert [10]

In fact, Szubert and Doner might have also been used by Jews.

Doner can be a Jewish name. The (very nice) family who run Double Two are called Doner. Not sure if they came to Yorkshire from Poland or elsewhere though.

Study / Study in Poland without English IELTS? [28]

Normally, one studies in the language of the country in which they are attending school.

If the course is taught in English, they would require proof of a certain level of ability in that language. I think Jig would need to have a higher level of written English than we see in this thread, however when writing an essay, I suspect most people would take more care with grammar than they would just posting on some internet forum.

And Dominicb 's intention is that he does not support anyone coming to Poland

From certain countries yes. Basically he came here and it didn't work out for him.

Real Estate / Prefabricated houses in Poland [3]

Try googling Danwood and Multicomfort. There are a few companies here that make prefabricated homes. Both of those are in the market here.

Love / How common or culturally accepted is divorce in Poland? [43]

Many of you seem to forget the social aspect of divorce.

The social aspect of divorce is the second most positive one, after the family one - children suffer terribly in families where the marriage has died and the parents are miserable.

Being non religious in Poland is not a new thing anyway.

There's a very healthy tradition of this in Poland.

Sweet Jesus he must have got badly

He thought it was hilarious - a total waste of money and a tourist trap as all 'escape rooms' are. Still funny though...

UK, Ireland / Polish career criminal gets six years for rape [43]

Castration would work for repeat offenders, but for some reason it has not caught on, dunno why.

Apart from being inhumane, it doesn't work. There's some evidence that it makes sadists worse.

While it might make people feel like super-humanitarians to offer counseling, CBT, and other forms of behavior modification to these people

It isn't about how people feel, it's about preventing re-offending. There are simply too many repeat offenders, and the light sentences for rape that are given in some countries (Poland gives noticeably lighter sentences than the UK) do not help this.

As for behaviour modification in gaol, in a civilised society, the purpose of the justice system is threefold: deterrence, punishment and rehabilitation. Stiff penalties aren't a deterrent (the US has an incredibly high murder rate despite the death penalty) and long sentences are expensive and give little hope or motivation for rhe offender to rehabilitate.

UK, Ireland / Polish career criminal gets six years for rape [43]

I am very interested.

Are you? Read up on it - there's a lot of material out there, or ask someone who works in that field within the justice system. Above all, the priority is that the person does not reoffend. Prisons offer such programmes in a lot of countries including both Poland and the UK.

UK, Ireland / Polish career criminal gets six years for rape [43]

If anything, the problem is in the other direction - excessively long sentences, privately owned prisons with some leech company skimming profit and elected prosecutors/judges. That and the disproportionate amount of black people in the prison system.

The rapist in question needs treatment as well as punishment - he may receive it, and as a repeat offender the priority must be breaking the cycle of offending.

Travel / Krakow Escape Room [18]

a hard life

Even an easy one.

My friend went to one of those escape room tourist traps to see what they were like. They locked the group in a room. There was a big piece of tape with 'do not remove' written on. He removed it and the door opened.

Love / How common or culturally accepted is divorce in Poland? [43]

There is only one God jon,

Millions would disagre with you.

Just as millions divorce. In Poland, divorce is very common, not least because of the tradition that used to exist of marrying young.

The fallen soldier who Trump's wife insulted

Too late to edit - it should of course read "the fallen soldier whose wife Trump insulted".

As man-made global warming desertifies more and more of Africa, we can (and should) expect an increase in population movements towards more temperate regions. And to be fair to the migrants, industrial pollution is the fault of more developed places, not their countries of origin which are the victims of this.

You're very touchy. Perhaps it's part and parcel of paying to be locked in a room for amusement.

They have a couple of those 'escape rooms' in Warsaw now - something to do with persuading bored backpackers to part with cash.

Who said it was?

Not but what, you come across as on the touchy side, reacting so untowardly to a straightforward observation.

Love / The age of consent in Poland is only 15 [147]

it sounds like only a matter of if and not when he seriously hurts an innocent person in society.

I hope he doesn't. Counselling or Cognitive Behaviour Therapy would, I suspect, benefit him well and give him a different perspective on this.

From the way he writes, he sounds developmentally disabled and socially&mentally regressed.

Socially awkward, certainly, however he does have a very good way with words (and I think a journalism degree). I suspect there's a really nice person under there waiting to come out, however that won't happen as he struggles with the aftershock (PTSD really) of being in jail and being sent from America to Poland, a country that isn't his home. That and the negative behaviour and thoughts towards underage girls, something that I suspect nobody has ever helped him deal with.

when he seriously hurts an innocent person in society

This could one day happen - a reason he would do well to address some of hgis current issues with the help of a good counsellor. Before it's too late for him and potentially for others.

He talks about underage girls being keen - teenagers are 'keen' about so many things without the wherewithal to protect themselves. That and racing hormones and risktaking behaviour. Hence most countries thinking very carefully when they choose their age of consent.

News / How will BREXIT affect the immigrants in UK and Poland. [1114]

most of so called refugees who come to Europe now are from Maghreb and Subsahran Africa - I haven't heard of the US intervening there lately

They are currently intervening there, as well as funding and supporting the G5 Sahel in Mali. The fallen soldier who Trump's wife insulted was killed in Niger where their drones are based.

One of the major reasons for people fleeing that area is fighting and serious instability there. The other is desertification removing people's livelihoods (and increasing the frequency and intensity of people fighting over resources). This is only likely to become more serious, and this will happen in the short term due to this years very low level of rainfall in livestock farming regions around the Sahara. Austria can expect more new residents over the next year or so, as can Europe. No bad thing.

just like you can guess most prostitutes and porn stars before they become porn stars begin their careerd as mid teens

Can you? Most 'begin their careerd' through sheer desperation.

zi have way more reasons to kill you people, and your fellow americans than this by the way.

creepy

2) What were you imprisoned for?

He was imprisoned for grooming a 12 year old girl online and arranging to meet her. It was a policewoman replying to the last few messages after the child disclosed her online abuse. Reported in the media at the time.
