That is a classic mutually beneficial agreement. The USA cannot be the world's player without securing it place in Europe, can make a good money on selling gas (rather then just burn it). While Poland and all other countries of the region can actually stop being an appendix to the German Europe and gain an independence, prosperity and a center of projecting stability on the large chunk of the globe.

Eastern/Central Europe is bigger than western Europe, has more potential and actually have been wealthier until east-west trading routes been cut off by the Ottomans and later circumvent by the ocean trade routes that benefited sea-faring countries.

So called Judicial independence isn't there for its own sake. It is to safeguard judges from the illicit influence that would corrupt them and their rulings. Perverting the course of justice.
