News / An article: NATO is the American occupation of Poland and Europe, by Mateusz Piskorski [233]

the USSR went there illegally to prop up a Commie regime and play geopolitics.

That is a conflict that really needs to be re-examined, for all its faults the USSR in Afghanistan represented something like civilizational progress while US involvement since that time has only reinforced and strenghtned the most savagely primitive aspects of the local population.

I got off as Gdank-Oliwa. ...... for an hour.

Beautiful story, just breathtakingly sublime. I've never experienced such catharsis reading about someone else's bowel movements.

Σας ευχαριστώ! (I find myself so moved that only modern Greek will do.... do)

Life / My Last Link To Poland Died - Why Leaving Poland Was My Best Decision [249]

septics make a big deal of how terrible life is in the UK when they have no intention of going there

I don't have to want to go some place to realize it's getting worse by just about any objective standard and that's not good. I care about civil society and the UK (at least England) is starting to lose it. Given its influence it's worth commenting on.

they should put their own house in order tbh

Yeah, we're a mess, but we don't refer to you as human waste.... (perhaps the same courtesy could be extended back?)

I'm sure it's.... absolutely.... aadddddeequate? What do New Zealanders talk about?

Nigel: Oh dear, the sheep ran away again...
Priscilla: Nothing to be done now, have some tea while we stew in guilt over the fate of the Maori
Nigel: Nice mountain there..
Priscilla: Funny things... kiwis.... don't you agree?
Nigel:......... .................yes.......

Poland is good, but its a dull and dismal country with lots of prejudices.

But interesting. New Zealand sounds like the dullest place on earth (some pretty countryside but people that make Australians look interesting....).

The world don't move to the beat of just one drum. What might be right for you might not be right for some. It takes different strokes to move the world.

The mass was in progress and a woman with a devine voice was singing

not something that usually occurs during mass in Poland...

I asked a priest where she was and how I can see her.

During mass? After? Polish priests usually don't clientele with the faithful (a habit began during communism for the protection of both)

Done! You now have 000,000,000,000.00 more dollars per hour than whatever Putin is paying you. Show some gratitude!

Work / Native English speaker looking to teach English in the Opole area of Poland. [29]

International English is American , essentially.

It depends on what level, in Europe the pronunciation tends to be more American (in that most people don't drop their r's if nothing else) but the lexicon and phraseology tends to be more British because that's where the textbooks come from (except for countries that mostly make their own which is not most of them).

I had a great book years ago that had a long list of British and UK vocabulary along with which seemed more common internationally (basically in Europe), it was about 50 45 UK US respectively and about 5 percent different expressions. It was very accurate in my experience.

USA, Canada / Would you live in California, USA? [240]

That says nothing about inequality and societal dysfunction, it's just money. China has the second largest and growing fast... would you want Chinese societal norms for yourself?

Some of those groups of pseudokibicow or psudofans fanatics ultras etc. are taking over entire drug trades and human trafficing

Exterminate the brutes! Gangs are like cancer, you cut it out at the source or it will kill the society.

Extreme prejudice and no tolerance is the only viable strategy with gangs, make it clear they're a one way ticket to the morgue and not anything glamorous because stupid lunkheads are attracted to them.

On the good news side, 99.99 percent of gange members are blithering idiots so it's not hard to root them out. All that's needed is willpower.

Travel / Kaliningrad to Gdansk Transport [10]

Or go for Park+Ride area to find someone who travels to Gdansk as well.

Or Sopot, I've recently heard that a bunch of Russians regularly travel from Kaliningrad to the Tri-City (Gdańsk-Sopot-Gdynia) but mostly to Sopot.

He's been posting since 4-5am in the US, all to...

I don't know/care what his problem with you is, but the obsession is a sure sign of deep psychological problems (I'm completely serious, he's unhinged and probably dangerous and liable to snap some day and hurt people).

Wow... to go through all that trouble just to provoke emotions on the internet. Profoundly, deeply disturbed. Let's hope whoever was posing as "Rich Mazur" gets the psychological help they very clearly need. The same also goes for anyone who assisted or supported them in this thread. Mental illness of a very disturbing variety.

News / Polonophobia rising in Israel. [144]

it's quite normal for Orthodox Jews to settle issues at their own "beth din" courts

but they don't proselytise or expect non-Jews to observe Jewish laws around them

quoting texts from 1336 hardly proves anything except that people were rather backwards in their thinking back then

but if people still believe it then it's relevant

you can go to the Czech Republic and get treated there for the same thing while the Polish NFZ pays

Do you have to have EKUZ? Weird.

As for non-EU residents, I guess it all depends on their medical insurance

I go to the NFZ and get an EKUZ though to be honest I'm not sure how much I trust it, a year and half ago I was at a conference when a Czech doctor doing a presentation (it was kind of an interdisciplinary conference) said he really hoped that none of those present ever actually had to use the EKUZ....

Life / I'm British in Poland and I think that it's time to go back to the UK! [240]

the questions in broken Polish,

the thing is that people in his (supposed) situation use what they remember of their first language in very specific and characteristic ways that using google translate does not produce.

which again, if his polish is now that bad how can anyone be certain he actually understood what they said at the admissions desks?

that dog don't hunt (as some say in the South)

'Zazwyczaj' would not be the adverb that people would typically use in speaking

I totally overuse that (second language syndrome I mix up registers all over the place being too formal or informal, often in the same sentence).

I can barely put a sentence together in Polish without some hesitatio

and you didn't think to try to brush up before going back? the internet is full of radio and tv and newspapers in Polish, how can you even be sure you understood what they were saying at the hospital? maybe you got a burr up your dvpa because you misunderstood what they trying to say
