Travel / Poland from a Persian Tourist's Perspective [269]

I was actually referring specifically to my county, which performs horribly in education tables, and it shows.

Mine didnt, or should I say the Roman Catholic schools do rather well, I wonder why?

In the same way that Persians beings Arabs makes sense, of course.

I did offer an alternative of Asian. You however were completely off the scale.

USA, Canada / Dual citizenship - US doesn't care if you don't give up Polish passport [103]

don't think an oath is going to matter. At all. It's pretty crazy that a modern country like the U.S still does oaths.

During the ceremony, each citizen is required to swear or affirm an oath of allegiance to the Crown, and make a pledge to uphold the values and laws of the UK. We aim to make these ceremonies enjoyable and meaningful events, giving citizens an opportunity to celebrate the event rather than just complete a bureaucratic process.

kingston.gov.uk/citizenship_ceremonies

You seem to know very little about the UK, since its part of becoming a British citizen here! Or do you not consider the UK to be modern?

I gained my right to be a Subject (since we have a royal family this is what I am, I do not live in a Rebublic therefore I am not a citizen) of Britain because my family history goes back centuries (not to 2 generations)..those that wish to go to new countries, should have to be serious about becoming a citizen of that country, not just for the "benefits" but because they intend to make it their home and respect it along with the values and laws that country possess.

lack of education are all as high as they can possibly be in this country

You mean we have dropped in the league tables in Europe? That might have something to do with the amount of foreign languages being spoken in our schools and the fact teachers are struggling, even with the stupid amounts of money that tax payers have to contribute to teaching English to kids in England who have come here from every corner of the globe. Your statement is also quite flawed, if you look at the stats for kids leaving with 5 or more GCSEs you will find that it's at an all time high, along with kids wanting to go the university.

be English then, because they all use the Latin alphabet

How would that make sense? Since English is littered with Latin words, but its not our native lanaguge, Latin originated ancient Rome, not England, we acquired the alphabet along with lots of other european countries.

Life / Polish "Mall Girl" Culture? [125]

And most people don't understand how important these things have become for teenagers to be accepted.

Im sure when every one of us were growing up having the right clothes was important, personally I didnt feel the need to go and sell myself, as Im sure most young girls in Poland dont.

The missing father just didnt exist in communist times, nowadays its all I hear,

These are just excuses for bad behaviour and moral decline, also are you telling me there were NO single parent families before 1989 or whatever year it was? Give me a break!

Travel / Poland from a Persian Tourist's Perspective [269]

Generally Polish people and Poland seemed nice in person but ever since I found this forum after the first trip I've been left with the same sour taste in my mouth as I do when I'm in Germany, Denmark Holland or any other radical anti-cultural country.

Poland happens to be like this because they dont have to deal with a multi-cultural society that fails to integrate or idiots that call them "radical anti-cultrual" - how many mosques are there in Germany, Denmark and the UK? I suppose you have Catholic churches all over the place in Iran?

"tell me about it" like polite people would do. If this was England, Holland or Denmark people's attitude would be more like --- "you're an arab" --- "you're a muslim" --- "you're unwanted". Which of course is completely untrue as we're Zoroastrians and not Muslim and we're Persians not Arabs.

Yep and Pakistanis were Indian - you are now Iranians, not Persians, Iranians are generally considered arabs, but I can call you asian if you prefer? - and who can blame someone for thinking you're Muslim when its called "the Islamic Republic of Iran" A place where other religions are not exactly tolerated.

Not having a go, just putting you straight, if Europeans acted in their guests countries how they (the ones from developing countries) act in ours, you could be sure they'd get very different treatment, so before you go flaming that we are this and that...think for a moment why your average person is becoming less tolerent?

Go back to Poland a few years time when its flooded with foreigners and they're no longer intrigued by you..but just consider you another unwanted intruder.

probably does not know that Darius is a typical Persian

Technically its not, its orgins are Mede and the reason it might be popular in Poland is because its a biblical name, so you can same that a lot of the biblical names have some Babylonian connection (this a place that no longer exists under that name a bit like Persia). Just the same as Jacob, Matthew, David, Luke, David are all Jewish one could say most if not all Polish boys have varients of Jewish names :D

You're right As I mentioned earlier we prefer the word Persian which it's been for thousands of years over Iranian.

I prefer the word English, but that doesnt stop people calling me British :D

So many negative things to say about our intolerence in Europe, which is slighty rich coming off someone whose country is run by a nazi who denies the fact the millions of people were murdered in camps in WWII, whose people have television sensored and public hangings are still easy to find. Probably the reason you have so many hanging around Calis trying to sneak into trucks bound for my Island.

21, lived in several Western Countries...plus 4 other countries, you stays must have been short.

Life / Doctors taking bribes in Poland [76]

It actually is no different to the UK in this respect - the only difference is that you get an invoice for the 'bribe' in the UK.

Ive already stated that - we call it having to go private (see the same consultant you would have done under the NHS but a damn sight quicker), but at least its legitimate...Plus you can claim it back off your insurance (my mum had to do it a few months back) so, its if you can afford the initial outlay and its a personal choice...Its not like a "bribe"

Love / Long-distance attraction. I am attracted to a Polish guy. [42]

In short. Stop making such a big deal out of it and talk to him. So what if he doesn't like it?

He's on holiday for the next 2 weeks, then she can...

yah, this will be one of the first topics i can open with him :)

Make sure he asks you about your early life and who you are...

why you biach not in bed now, are you handicapped or what?

Are you waiting till its early enough to ring your family in Bangladesh? Is that why you're up?

Bydgoszcz

There might be someone off here that comes from there, it rings a bell, but you only get their perspective...other than that you can google and find out what the population is...I think places like Krakow and other touristy places are well represented on the web, otherwise its basic info like any other city in the world thats not really on the "map"

You need to ask him what its like..

to find out whether he was just being polite, when he is back to Poland in, say, 2 week's time..

Promise to keep us posted..obviously not in any great detail.. but it would nice to hear something positive...

hey thanks for the encouragement.

You know what, we get so many slime balls on here...its so nice to have thread with such a sincer tone..I wish you well..

I was born in the Philippines.

So imagine you are very pretty, so, I dont think he was being just polite ;0) Be honest, you're obviously a very inteligent lady who has a lot going for her...take the bull by the horns..so to speak! Good luck!

I wish i can come by too, but there is no plans for expansion in England for now (work-wise). Well, I did have some friends from there, he's from Manchester too, and he is such a funny, handsome guy :)

One of our Grad Engineers is from Indonesia, she such a sweetie...Hey, we're nice people in Manchester, whilst sometimes I come across harsh about certain issues, I welcome anyone to my country who is wordly, open minded..and not insular...I have to say, we have more than our fair share of good looking men in Manchester! I love my city!

So where abouts in Asia are you from?

more. Traveling indeed made me appreciate the differences in each individual!

I wish it were people like you that came to England.

Though, when it comes to falling for someone... i'm just back to basics :) I guess I've spent too much time in work that now, i sound so naive in this matter and i had to post it up! :)

All men and women are the same...same needs and wants...

Life / Proper dose of life in Poland... the harsh realities. [64]

I have always found this a stupid argument. It all depends on the initial condition of the glass. If it was empty and you filled it up half way it is half full. If it was full and you poured half of it out it is half empty. Simple. People are weird with their sayings.

No, its about "outlook" and you have to agree, on a bad day the glass is half empty on a good day, its half full..I like this saying...

plus i dont like you.

No you dont, but I was the only one to see though your post and wish your relative a sincer recovery...However that may seem remote at the moment...

I had first hand experience with the main cancer hospital in Warsaw and it was exceptional.

They have to travel quite a distance (his parents), but he (my friend) lives in Warsaw and has for some time...his father has had some problems, but on the whole he is getting his chemo and things seem to be getting better in his health...thats all that matters..The NHS isnt perfect...take for instand the post code lottery! Ask Brit members about that!

Life / Doctors taking bribes in Poland [76]

Do you realize that you have just admitted committing crimes penalized with imprisonment for up to 10 years ?

Im sure the Doctors taking the bribes are not going to say anything :D

I might discuss this issue on a Polish forum (I mean Polish language forum with Polish members)
but not here. We have a saying in Poland - "Zły to ptak, co własne gniazdo kala", which roughly
translates to "It is a bad bird, that shi*ts to his own nest".

So its okay to discuss something that happens with ones nationals..but not to admit to it when its mentioned on a forum of non nationals? (even thought people know about it>)

bad intentions or racism to it guys!

Whats racist about taking bribes from your own countrymen? Its corrupt, not racist.

compare now NHS to Sluzba Zdrowia
have you ever seen a typical British teeth?
thats not a myth

Have you smelt a Bangladeshi..thats not a myth either!

By the way, we all get free dental care in the UK to a certain age its up to parents to get their kids teeth sorted mine are straight (includes orthodontic treatment). What do you get in Bangladesh? You lot are lucky if you get a band aid if you have cancer!..

No, not really but I guess I always felt women were better at hiding their emotions in that aspect...

Yeah, thats why women get called stalkers too..cause they're really good at hiding their emotions :D Look, we all think the same, but these days too many games and second guessings causes problems...

2 weeks out of each month in Asia usually traveling through a plethora of countries during that time.

Asia? This is going to sound awful, but I know of no Polish guys (albeit limited) who find asian - Pakisanti/Indian women attractive but they find Japanese, Chinese and Korean women very easy on the eye...

I must say it's slightly amusing for me to see that women too go through the very same anxieties as we do when it comes to falling for someone...

You mean it took a thread on a forum to realise? We all have the same feelings and emotitions...

When they see your mug and tattoos they don't consider you as a westerner but a Brit working class folk who try to bribe them. Don't think so high about yourself.

Said the Bangladeshi! LOL...Keepem coming, you're too funny! At least working class in Britain means a flushing toilet and not rumaging in on rubbish tip!

Life / Doctors taking bribes in Poland [76]

Do we drive the machine paying bribes?

Yes, but I think if the attitute of many doesnt change a few wont make a difference...Its a case of "well, they pay, they get better treatment" If everyone said no, then attitude would be different, but thats easy for me to say because I dont live in a country where its the "norm"

Do Doctors really earn enough without bribes?

Its all relative really...A Doctor will earn more than a cleaner..and of course, he has taken a different path, but what he has that the cleaner doesnt is a whole host of moral ethic codes, for me Doctors that take bribes are breaking these ethic codes.

Who pays the bribes, im thinking its the poor people that are more likely to shove a few hundred zloty in the Doctors back pockets.

So they are extracting money from people they know really cant afford it? No ethics!

Can any foreigners imagine paying a bribe in Britian, France, Germany or America?

Not in my wildest dreams, but we do have this senario:

Wait 3 months on the NHS or pay to go private - so in Poland you give a backhander or in the UK you are forced to pay to go private (to see the same consultant by the way - you can ring him direct and make an appointment for his "private clinic")...Either way its the consultant that gets more cash...And this is becoming more and more the norm...I mentioned on a thread a while ago about my mum...

Life / Proper dose of life in Poland... the harsh realities. [64]

An overflowing car park with a 1970's delapetated merc which has been there for over six months?

Okay lets put things in perspective.

You can get terrible hotel rooms in the UK, I had one guy at work complaining his last hotel room (it was in Solihull though) smelt of old mans pants :D (yeah it gave me a laugh)

Doggi doo - well, I was rather peeved when I walked it in (not once but twice, I came in and then went out to put some rubbish out..talk about adding insult to injury!) on to my lovely light coloured berber carpet (mines 100% wool)...not a pleasant experience cleaning it off!

The whole hospital thing, had not heard about it first hand (not in Poland but in Hungary) I would not have believed it, but I will say this, Im still quite good friends with one of our secondees (he's back in Poland now) and his dad is having chemo in Warsaw and I asked him about bribes and he said nothing like this goes on in the hospital where his dad is treated, but knowing him, I dont think he'd stand for it..

As to the rude cleaning staff in hospitals, I dont think they get paid enough to be polite and how would you feel after a day of cleaning in such an environment...Its not an excuse, but put yourself in their shoes...

Hope who ever was being treated will recover in time x

News / Mass immigration to Poland - article and response [479]

They're not though, thats the issue.

Did you know that some Jamacan can move here and claim pension tax credits (they can come here and claim a pension if they have a dependent here and have it topped up!), yet because my parents paid vast amounts in to their private pension funds they cant claim a penny?

News / Mass immigration to Poland - article and response [479]

There is a hole in the Pension argument, immigration would have to increase several fold to plug the gap. Overall migration is not a drain on the host country.

There are several types of immigrants. Lets take for instance Somalia’s, they don’t work and they reproduce like rats..tell me how are they helping? There are Africans that are coming in large numbers with HIV and AIDS who might work as cleaners but drain the system because of the drugs they are dependent on and will prolong their lives..thus prolonging the burden on our society and in return they claim tax credits and give nothing..Lets move on to pakis, whilst most think they are law abiding and have very close families, lets break that myth, drug taking amongst them is on the rise, therefore they are incurring costs, couple that with the fact that they breed like rats and the women (in most families that are in insular ghettos) dont go out to work..they add very little but claim vast amouts.

Now lets move on to the A8, A10, A12 (yes they increased in numbers) - well, this is a small island with a limited amoumt of jobs and it all about economics and supply and demand - so it was inevitable that wages would be driven down...you only have to look in a recruitment agency window to see that wages are significantly less than they were 5 years ago...A lot of the guys that are here on their own, claim child credit for kids back home so that counters any tax and NI they pay (most agency are on about 7.50 an hour)...The young and single that are in low paid jobs claim working tax credits...whatever they pay, they get back...obviously not in all cases, but in a lot. Obviously there a minority that are in well paid jobs, but that is only a minorty...its not exactly a massive benefit to to our pension fund....

For me, work permits should have been the way forward, not a free for-all... I dont mean this in a nasty way, Im just being honest.

Love / Polish poem suggestions to get my girl back [21]

Not Polish but a wonderful poem

I Dreamt a Dream! what can it mean?
And that I was a maiden Queen:
Guarded by an Angel mild;
Witless woe, was neer beguil'd!

And I wept both night and day
And he wip'd my tears away
And I wept both day and night
And hid from him my hearts delight

So he took his wings and fled:
Then the morn blush'd rosy red:
I dried my tears & armd my fears,
With ten thousand shields and spears.

Soon my Angel came again;
I was arm'd, he came in vain:
For the time of youth was fled
And grey hairs were on my head

In other words, say what you feel, or you might regret it, poems are beautiful, but words from the hearts mean more. As they say you only get one shot at life, why fake it by using anothers prose!
