Life / What can citizens do to make Poland a better place to live? [125]

^^^ a fine example of the nit twits who only look as far ahead as the tail lights in front of them. I'm seriously starting to wonder if there's something genetic amongst Poles in which they lack the peripheral vision of their European counterparts.

^^^seriously, it's so wierd here in that, you can be pulling into a parking space and someone, man or woman, will go right in front so you gotta stop and they'll do it to avoid the oh, say, 3 or 4 extra steps to go around a moving vehicle. And yes, pedestrians that actually look before crossing would be a good thing.

And then you have the "oh you don't mind do you?" dorks that will pull up on the left lane of an entire queue so that they can get in front. When I mouth the words "co ty ***** robisz?" they try to get all uppity like they're completely in the right-I hate them.

So I was drivin down a road the other week and there was still lots of snow at that time. Anyway buddy is coming the opposite direction and I pull over so that he can get by-why not right? This dickhead pulls up beside me and starts cussing that i didn't pull over enough for him.

So after such a polite response to my insolence I tell him to shut himself up and that he had enough space and just go (if i could have pulled over more i would have but as i wrote there was loads of snow so). This idiot was completely in the wrong but had to put on a show for his female passenger and started flappin his mouth even worse until i unbuckle and exit so we can discuss things in a more in-depth manner. So I was just getting exiting my vehicle when low-and-behold, he did have enough space and drove away.

This is what I don't get, he obviously had enough space but decided to try his hand at being a jerk-off to the guy that tried to make that little moment of his life easier.

I hate the patriarchal macho b.s. that is expressed in Polish driving culture either that or Poles are continually trying to convince themselves and everyone else that they're better than one another.

ahh it's been awhile since one of my driving rants, ventilation is good!

queue at the ski lifts with a greater sense of consideration, i.e., don't go trying to queue jump, it really shows poor character.

Although i did see 2 guys call out another guy on his b.s. attempts to get in front of everyone, i was very vocal in my support for them "oni majÄ… ratcja" (forgive my phonetic spelling and incorrect grammar) but everyone else just stood and watched. C'mon people, you gotta support others when they make a point about what's right.

Life / What's wrong with you, Polish people - is it an inferiority complex? [120]

Most Poles today in the UK and in Ireland are just day laborers who are not permanent residents.

Most of how many? Even 49% of a big enough number, while not being "most" can still be a lot. Just sayin

Germans have historically been unwilling to assimilate in Poland.

If you count military invasions then excellent point! If not then I have to wonder how many Germans have actually migrated this way recently and for reasons other than those directly related to armed conflict, e.g. economic. I'm not arguing, I'm really just wondering.

But If you're talking about hundreds of years ago, then I'm one of those folks who just dismisses anyone who talks with too much authority about what things were like back then, I always kinda think it's all just speculation based on sources that may be reliable or not.

News / Polish-American soldier and his wife murdered by four marines [163]

No ofcourse not, but then again there's a huge difference between accidents and accidentally pulling a trigger..

when the end result is death both ways i'm not sure i see the difference you're talking about. please explain (especially since car accidents cause many more deaths in america than gun accidents do).

generally, i'm pretty leftist but seeing as you asked an open question, i'll try to give you a succinct answer.
Why not try to make America a gunless society? Because then only the criminals will have them.

America's founding fathers insisted on the right to bear arms to ensure that the nation have the freedom to revolt should the people's leaders ever abuse power or become tyrants.

And what causes more deaths in the u.s., motor vehicles or guns? If the answer is motor vehicles (i know, i know, it's people not the implement but for the sake of brevity on this one) would you want to ban those?

I'd sooner look at the failings of the education system as to why there is so much violent crime.

News / GERMANS WANT TO GERMANIZE KOPERNIK (COPERNICUS)! OUTRAGE! [1016]

Anyway, time to yell "To arms, Poles!"

I believe the term to describe your arguments is "hogwash."

koperni-whatever being Polish, German or both is NOT the make or break point for someone to actually make a difference in their life or another's. If the nationality of a long, long, deceased mathematician and astronomer is the make or break point for someone's genius being stimulated then it's safe to say things have got to a very sorry state indeed. But kudos on trying to tie in non relevant issues to whatever it was you were on about.

that is all.

People look at this issue from a biased perspective of our times. At that times there was no developed concept of nationality, while Copernicus was just loyal servant of Polish king. Nationality is how you consider yourself and not how others think about you.

i like the way you stated that.

Bratwurst Boy, as an impartial observer, I gotta say you've convinced me. Good work on backing up your arguments.

I don't know why people (in this case poles) get all butthurt about Kopperlingk being German and not Polish, like it really changes their day to day lives. It all seems so utterly childish to me, but then again, I wasn't raised with a nationalist pov.

History / Battle of Grunwald 1410 The biggest medieval battle. Germans smashed. [174]

ah ha, that clears that up, cheers for that. Hey, anybody happen to know where I can read an account of the battle? Yeah I realize it's gonna be biased if it's taken from source a, or source b, but I still wanna read one if it's out there.

News / 10,000 ISRAELIS READY TO CLAIM FOR POLISH CITIZENSHIP AND POLISH LAND! [628]

Buddy I started a thread on this a loooong time ago. People may as well start being proud of their eye colour or some sh*t their neighbors did when they were 10.

I got your back on this one though.

It's really shows a lack of critical thinking imo, coupled with the constant appetite of the ego. People are willing to feed their egos anything and are generally conditioned to feed it things like: ethnic pride, victories of our ancestors, the accomplishments of athletes we identify with, wash, rinse, repeat. Either that or they can't figure out the difference between being proud, admiring something or someone, or just being glad about something....:/

History / Battle of Grunwald 1410 The biggest medieval battle. Germans smashed. [174]

I checked a few sources and they says total French forces were between 20 and 30 thousand people and English only about 6 thousand. In Grunwald there were about 60 thousand people on both sides.

where'd you find that, my limited reading only lead me to that many historians haven't come to anywhere near those numbers. Yikes now that I look at it again, 60K per side? Are you sure?

History / Battle of Grunwald 1410 The biggest medieval battle. Germans smashed. [174]

If people are writing about something that doesn't interest you then don't post in those threads.

yet you're justified in trying to belittle the accomplishments of their ancestors?

The Battle of Grumwald is quite interesting to me but i just don't see what the point of your original comments were. What was the point of your original post?

for reference:

ow yeah i'm so excited i nearly wet myself, this is total rubbish, lol. No offense and i expect the historians have a hard on right now but really, really, you need to talk about the Germans getting 'smashed' you go all the way back to 1410, lol lol lol lol lol, what a joke

Foreigner4, the writing in red means a moderator or Admin has edited into the post, in the case of tornado2007 it was to point out to him that he shouldn't contribute to things that don't interest him. :)

Don't we need to think about tommorow now??? :)

all the time, without ever reflecting on the past? As brit, do you ever reflect on how things could be different today but for events in the past? There's a lot of history, it'd be a shame to never appreciate it.

No not really, Teutonic Order even victorious could not and did not want to do bad stuff to Poland

that may or may not be true but i can't find where I stated anything contrary to your assertion. I think you have me confused with someone else.

geez tornado, why are you in such a hurry to p*ss on their parade? Yeah the people of today had nothing to do with what went on then but you gotta admit the face of europe today might well be much worse for modern day Poles had it not been for that victory by their ancestors.

Love / My little confession hehe - I always thought polish women were ugly [57]

It's funny but the guys here are slowly taking better care of themselves and the girls are slowly letting themselves go.

Seriously, it used to be the case (7 or 8 years ago) where i'd see an extremely attractive girl with a goofy guy whose trousers were up to his arm pits. Now it's more often a decent looking lad with a girl who is rather plump.

It seems women here have let this "we are the most beautiful" mantra go to their heads. The thing is they aren't at all, they just haven't been as prone to obesity. That's it.

News / What is wrong with Poland that Poles emigrate? [167]

Switezianka

Great post!

But:

A plumber earns more money in Poland, than, e.g. a teacher or a doctor.

...is rubbish according to the 10 or so doctors i've met. (but perhaps the plumbers own the clinics). Perhaps you meant if doctors only work in a hospital? Doctors make pretty good money when they work privately compared to plumbers working privately.

The question I have is why people are SO POORLY PAID in Poland. I live here and while i have some ideas i can't compete with the insight of many.

Why are people paid absolute sh*t here? I do see loads of shiny new cars and flats going for crazy high prices (who can afford the mortgage, i'll never know).

The media will have you thinking that Blacks do nothing, but rob and steal and want to be on welfare when in reality there are more whites on welfare than Blacks...

not to be picky but there are more "whites" than "blacks" in the u.s. so that accounts for the numbers. Try using percentages to play your hand (whatever that may be).

Does anyone agree that cold Okocim Porter beats Guinness Stout hands down for refreshing flavour, robustness, body and overall enjoyment, not to mention price?

YES! mmmm, i do enjoy okocim porter, but it's getting harder to find:(

Work / Are you teaching English in Poland? [120]

For the record, you didn't help to write Avalon.

hmmm, what are the odds that some guy from a london method school would be on this board reading this thread and responding to it? hmmm what's the connection?

I'm gonna take mr. day's appearance and denial as confirmation that seanus probably did unwittingly contribute to this guy's repackaged (and watered down) version of callan.

I'd advise any would be teachers against working for speed callan/avalon schools or profi schools. there's a lot of shady book keeping done with those organizations.

Love / Polish Girl & an Arabic Guy - at first it was hard, but now it's great! [46]

I don't understand some people I heard have said that Arabic guys are controlling?

So he consider himself more Canadian

Yes my guy is Muslim but he doesn't really practice (he's very open-minded) in fact we're having a Catholic ceremony in Poland.

Well i guess you figured out what makes your guy seem different. Congratulations and I wish you two a long and happy future.

Life / Fashion and Style in Poland [174]

the above is from the gospel itself. following seanus' advice will allow you to increase the life of your wardrobe's better items simply by not having to wash them after every wearing. of course if you're like me then your sweat actually smells like sweet and zesty nectar and this isn't a problem. but if you're like seanus (hehehe)..., well then you'd better invest in some string vests and pronto.

i second kemaleon's seconding! I don't know any guy that finds those stupid looking tops attractive in any way.

And trousers with dresses, be they baby-doll dresses (i.e. those stupid moomoo things) or actual dresses is just plain ugly and unattractive. No woman should ever experiment with that look, ever!

Pointy shoes? kitsch.
