not sure about australia but in the US many, many poles dropped the ski or changed their names to make them easier in america.. some, you'd never even know were poles..
I read in a book recently that a number of surnames with the ending of "ski" is more common in the USA and Australia than in Poland itself.

Thus a larger proportion of Polish names carried this termination in America and australia than in Poland.

only because of the visa situation... poles are still likely to over stay their visa... it's still happening..
BS.. for the most part those get the visa w/o all that much hassle..

I know 2 people ( Polish ) that were issued US tourist visas last week no problem.
Actually ist not that senseless at all. Poles have a tendecy to overstay thier visas and not return home when they are suppose too.
If people followed the rules, the government wouldnt have to be so cautious with Poles.

There's no discrimination. The problem is that poles overstay their visa's. In comparisson, czechs do not and therefore have less problems getting visas - actually i think they don't need visas to travel to the US.

no, what you don't get is that most "good/safe/clean" polish citizens get approval. the problem is that many "shady" poles are the ones that are applying in droves..

that's interesting as i find it the opposite. mainly because polish doesn't have the articles and polish has a plethora of suffixes that take a whole sentence in English to get the same meaning..
w and v.. vather... :D
also a.. in polish a pretty much sounds the same wherever it is in any word.. in English there are a few versions..
r -- polish r is rolling.. in English it's much more throaty.. hard to get right.
personally, i still have issues with diction of certain words..
there is a lot of good info on this forum in regards to PL language.. look around..
The example she gave me was that she would say 'The boss wants to/would like to speak to you.' when we would just say 'The boss wants you.' It's a small difference but across throughout conversations it makes a big difference.
