Life / Why Poland is "surprised" by winter and snow every year? [192]

Plenty of snow up my part of the world , but everything seems to be moving as normal....apart from my dam Jeep which decided it wanted to sleep in today...

Time for a new battery i think...?

UK, Ireland / The more subtle differences: Ireland/Britain v Poland [310]

the Polish offerings is not the subtlest thing here. They are huge in comparison.

I do eat the Polish fasolka quite a bit , but they seem to vary so much in quality , some brands are quite nice , but others are down right nasty , i got one jar that had a strong metalic taste , and they were horrible , so bad i could not eat them...!

Life / Why Poland is "surprised" by winter and snow every year? [192]

I can remember in the eighties , living in London , and planning to go visit my folks in Scarborough for Christmas , it was the worst winter in 40 years they said , and there was also a petrol strike on...

Just after i got onto the M1 motorway , it was closed due to the conditions , and there was me , slipping and sliding up the centre lane...on a motorcycle...!

The Police actually stopped me , just to tell me i was out of my mind , and shook their heads in disbelief when i told them i was heading for Scarborough , they had pulled all their cars off the road apart from 4 x 4 vehicles...

It was a long cold journey , but i made it... Getting back to London took even longer , i had to wait in some places for a plough to come along to continue my journey...

the daft things you do when you are young...!!!

Love / Good looking Polish women with ugly men [416]

and I was told, it's a fashion in Poland.

The shaved head is to disguise the fact they are going bald..not because they think its cool to look like a Russian gulag prisoner...

So all these uggy Polish dudes scoring the hot chicks must all have great personalities?

In my village the girls , who are all quite pretty go for the guys who are not drunk every night , have a car of some kind that works , and have money to spend on them..

Looks don,t come into it....

The bald head look is much enhanced by the use of co ordainated fake tracksuits , cheap trainers , and the carrier bag full of beer bottles...what girl can resist that...?

Britain always gets caught out...it does not snow often enough or hard enough for us to have a slick plan , so when a bad winter comes it takes a while to get our act together...

Add to this the fact that most of us can,t drive on snow due to lack of experiance , and the place soon grinds to a halt...

Life / Car's confrontation with a Wild Boar in Poland [37]

The main potential carriers of rabies in Poland are foxes , raccons , and badgers , these animals can in turn affect dogs and cats and even cattle...

Deer and wild boar are not a problem..

in any case you couldnt get to my back garden even with a Range Rover in these conditions. If its going to be a long hard winter you gotta shovel snow at some point.

The snow was two feet deep in my garden last year , with drifts up to five feet deep...my trusty old Jeep managed to plough its way through it....

Life / Car's confrontation with a Wild Boar in Poland [37]

If i drive from my farm to the local town which is 17 kms away there are about 15 places where the wild piggies and deer cross the road , i know where all these places are , but of course they can leap out of the forest almost anywhere....

I drive slow enough to spot their glowing eyes at the roadside , and in five years i have not hit any of them apart from a raccoon that hurtled out of a bush into the front wheel of my Harley , stunning itself for a few moments...

A few years back a German friend of mine had a large wild boar run into the path of his Harley....the wild piggie survived...my friend did not...

Ha... my garden looked pretty much the same...untill i got a 4 x 4 working...

can,t you get a cheap 4 x 4 of some kind...it saves a whole lot of digging in the winter , you can make your own paths through the snow with the car....

what do you mean "know how to drive 4x4"?... very easy....

my horse is 4x4...

Anything that has a mind of its own is not easy to drive...but yes a horse does work well in snow....

Not so good on an icey road though...guess how i know that.....?

Yeah a 4 x 4 is the best thing in slippery conditions , but only if you know how to drive it...

if you think that having a 4 x 4 means you can simply drive faster than everyone else , you can soon get into trouble with it....

If you don,t have a 4 x 4 then the next best thing is to have the engine at the same end of the car as the driving wheels , my Honda accord is front engine , and front wheel drive , so works a bit better in the snow...

The worst thing to have is a powerfull car with low profile tyres , the engine at the front , and the driving wheels at the back..they are pretty hopeless...

how is it to drive and commute in your city?

Commute..?? city..??? out where i live you might see a tractor or two on your way to work , but no traffic jams , no matter how bad the snow comes down....

Its gonna be a shock to the system when i find myself in the center of Moscow , time to trade my Jeep in for an armoured car i think...!
