UK, Ireland / Is UK the new cradle of antipolonism? [161]

Incidentally, hatred for Jewish people is passed from generation to generation too. We even have several examples on this very website.

Travel / Attractions in Wrocław: a Must-See List [117]

What stood on Plac Bema prior to that gorgeous-looking structure?

the answer is: nothing

it was a piece of semi-neglected parkland. but very popular for kids as they didn't have to cross a main road to play.

it was also closed off for a year or two when they built some apartment blocks nearby.

the building might look nice, but locals fought against its construction. and though it's been completed for a few years it's still half empty. it also blocks my view of the catherdral towers.

i like it, but it's in the wrong part of town.

Law / Maintenance & Rights: Polish mother & child in Poland, Irish father in the UK [57]

find a local lawyer in london... ask for initial advice... make it clear that you would like a local lawyer in Poland to deal with the actual case. simples.

every day u spend here talking about it is another one or two hundred zl going to the mother/child.

to be honest i don't know why u don't contact one of the lawyers on the forum... and come to some arrangement.

there must be a list of Polish speaking lawyers in the uk. maybe the embassy has such a list. some advice group might also have a list.

skinhead is the fashion so it doesn't give any clues as to who the bad guys are.

seriously, who would care where u come from and if u are half Polish or not.

if u think there is trouble coming just keep stum and walk on by.

Law / Maintenance & Rights: Polish mother & child in Poland, Irish father in the UK [57]

and good will of the father

it's this good will that has got him into this mess. in the court's eyes he has shown by his actions that he is the father. trying to undo that in a Polish court won't be easy. getting a dna test is going to be damn difficult too, if the mother knows he is not really the father. she won't do it until the court tells her, which eats up time and money.

but of course, the first priority is getting a lawyer asap as the op is liable for payments until the court decides otherwise. and that won't be for a few months yet.

Life / Racism and for what? (story of Egyptian guy's living in Poland) [149]

I know an American from back in college who visited Russia, St.Petersburg, Novgorod, and Moscow she said people looked at their tour group like they wanted to kill them.

that might be because they were american. it's a love hate thing.

homophobic

Life / Racism and for what? (story of Egyptian guy's living in Poland) [149]

that is a real dickish thing to say.

unfcuking believable. is everybody on this site a bunch of racist pigs?

shit does happen. i'm sitting here with a metal pin and a few dozen stitches, thank you.

how on earth do you get a racist statement from what i said. it's a phrase in normal use and used by all sorts of people.

the guy was in the wrong place at the wrong time. nothing more.

Are there a lot of goths in Poland? (Or least people who are fans of goth music?)

Travel / Traveling around Poland - our photo stories with very personal commentary [225]

not sure what this website is, but it shows my favourite bridge in wroclaw.

Promenade Old Town is a perfect place for a walk or bike trip. Green avenues extend the city's ancient fortifications along the moat of the City. Promenade Old Town is surrounded by the Old Town on the west, the south and east, and from the north - Oder.

Kladka Swiebodzka was built in 2009 as part of the revitalization of Bulwar Tadka Jasinski, which in turn is part of the Old Town Promenade. Kladka over the moat joins pl. Orlat Lwowskich of the Wlodkowica street. The construction of the footbridge (girders, cross members) is made of laminated wood.

In the vicinity of the bridge is located a playground for children. Approximately 100m to the east is a great restaurant with a garden open to the boulevard. On the other hand, walking down towards the north we will see renovated building of the Office of the Civil Status and fountain at pl. Jana Pawla II. More good restaurants and atmospheric premises is located on the nearby Pawla Wlodkowica street.

This one?:

not that one. i call that the bouncing bridge. it moves a little when folk walk across. before renovation it was worse/more exciting.

it's near the park plaza hotel

my favourite bridge is opposite swiebodzki station. it goes from low ground to high ground, so is not horizontal to the vertical

whoever dreamt up wroclove is a complete idiot in my opinion.

it comes out as rocklove and means absolutely nothing.

as wroclaw is pronounced rocklaw in english.
