History / The Piast dynasty did most for Poland [24]

Total annihilation of Poland. Lithuania saved Poland. It was a smart move.

Oh no no Nathan. That's bull, are we talking about the Teotonic Order threat if you read proper history about the battle not Lithuanian or other eastern fables you'd know that most of the fighting force and the one who did most of the fighting during the battle of Grunwald (Tannenberg) was Polish:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Grunwald#Battle_begins:_Lithuanian_attack_and_retreat

So Poles actually saved the Lithuanians since they and Żmudź (Latvia) pagan lands were under threat of Teotonic conquest. In later years after Polish-Lithuanian unification Poland always raised an army two to three times larger than the Lithuanians were able to, in fact wars with Sweden or Russian when Lithuania was invaded were saved by Polish forces.

History / The Piast dynasty did most for Poland [24]

Poland's Piast dynasty united the West Slavic tribes on present day Poland's land into a common nation. It's princess and later kings expanded it's borders westward and eastward. By the end of the last and most famous Piast's Casimir the Great's rule, Poland had become a rich, modern in comparison with its contemporaries, and respected country in all of Europe.

News / Will many Poles migrate to Germany in May 2011 (after opening labor market)? [157]

Germany, of course, is nearer to Poland than Britain is - it shares a long land border, so migrants can return and spend more easily.

Talking about the numbers of emigrants, Poland's Minister of Labour Jolanta Fedak said on Polish radio: "We are looking at 300,000 to 400,000 people, but over a period of three to four years."

Life / Expats, are you happy with your life in Poland? [43]

Was it ever? Sure, some bits of Poland are toilets (Radom springs to mind)

Uh yea. Radom toilet? I actually though of Radom as a pretty nice city, you should visit a few towns in Podkarpackie or Lubelskie. But it's still nothing in comparison to the early 90s in my old hometown Stalowa Wola they've built countless new modern apartment buildings all around the city, in the suburbs new developments have sprung up like in the west.

UK, Ireland / Do Poles and EU Citizens exploit the British welfare state [129]

A lot of them hang flags on their cars and drive around blowing their horns all night, same with Mexicans, I dread cinco de mayo!

I was in a Mexican supermarket and while I was in line, I noticed that I was the only one with cash in hand,,,wtf!!

Not totally true Poles like Mexicans who come to the States work hard. Maybe where you live some are like that but here I haven't met a single one on welfare.

News / Polish scientists hope to patent graphene mass-production technology [11]

It's stronger than steel, lightweight, flexible and it is a better conductor than silicon. It's called graphene, and Poland is the first country in the world to be capable of producing it on an industrial scale.

It is 100 times stronger than steel. It can be stretched by 20 percent and does not break. It is transparent and made of materials available in abundance, making it an ideal material for electronics.

UK, Ireland / Do Poles and EU Citizens exploit the British welfare state [129]

Polish workers losing their UK jobs in the economic downturn are choosing not to return home but to stay and take advantage of the generous benefits system.

Wouldn't you? if you lost your payroll job and could get benefits and work for cash on the side?

Language / Too many English words in the Polish language! [709]

I would have thought coach = trener, but see:
"Trening" is definitely not the same as "ćwiczenie."

"trenerem nazywa sie osobe prowadzaca szkolenie " and usually it's the coach training his team in just about every sport.

Language / Too many English words in the Polish language! [709]

The problem here is that "developer" is not "budowlaniec"; "menedżer" is not "zarządca" or "kierownik". Each of these words has a separate meaning.

True but that's just those words. How about when they use coach instead or trener or trening instead of ćwiczenie many words already have a Polish word for it, they shouldn't be messing up our language.

Genealogy / Genetic difference between Poles and selected others. [83]

Well it's been proven that Poles are something between Nordics and Alpines with a admixture of Mongolian blood. I've said it before my mom's side of the family which comes from the Pomeranian region all look Nordic my fathers from Lublin looks like a mixture of Nordic with Mongol (light kinda slanted eyes, high cheekbones dark hair)

History / Nowa Huta and other achievments of PRL (People's Republic of Poland) [79]

Housekeepers actually do earn quite decent money here, because it's hard to find one that's reliable and trustworthy. Harry will know better than me, but I recall that a good housekeeper in Warsaw can earn a decent amount of cash.

Funny phenomenon housekeepers make more money in America nowadays than many skilled laborers (masons, painters, carpenters etc.). I know one Polish girl here she says on some days she can make 30 dollars an hour(cash), many men quit their construction jobs buy and van and clean with their wives/girlfriends. It's become much more profitable and easier, who wants carry cement or cinder blocks in the hot sun? However women who work on a payroll (downtown offices) don't make anything about 300 dollars a week, only thing the benefits are good.

They're winding you up - a qualified welder in Poland is going to earn much more than 1800zl,

I think she meant 2,200 netto after taxes got taken away, so up to 3,000 brutto i'm guessin'. Still it's average or just below average, a woman in a good office job. How about some simple laborer or housekeeper they make much less than that.

Did you read that before you posted it? Or are you just too dumb to not know that 4,400zl is not "much more" than 4243.62?

Uh no sh1t are you too dumb to see that the 4243.62 is ONLY for Mazowieckie!? one wojewodztwo, an oasis.

No, boy: 15 years and nine months is the amount of time I've spent in Poland. Three months would, however be more time than the total you've spent in Poland in the last 15 years.

hmm in the last 15 years i've been to Poland 5 times, two months, three months, two months, two months, two months = 11 months hmm almost a year.

I have family(cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents) living in Lubelskie, Podkarpackie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie and Mazowieckie who have all sorts of jobs I know the wages.

History / Nowa Huta and other achievments of PRL (People's Republic of Poland) [79]

Exactly. His 3,300 nationwide "average" is far from average in eastern Poland, barely 2,700 zl is average. And that's just for people who can actually find work, unemployment is at 20%, and those people are barely able to live, what about the retirees and disabled from work? 4,400zl is much more than average even in the wealthier regions.

Average wages in 2010
Mazowieckie 4243,62 zł
Śląskie 3598,76 zł
Pomorskie 3331,44 zł
Dolnośląskie 3321,00 zł
Małopolskie 3135,70 zł
Wielkopolskie 3104,43zł
Zachodniopomorskie 3063,74 zł
Opolskie 3053,61 zł
Świętokrzyskie 2920,81 zł
Lubelskie 2869,35 zł
Lubuskie 2868,65 zł
£ódzkie 2853,35 zł
Podlaskie 2852,36 zł
Kujawsko-pomorskie 2843,65 zł
Warmińsko-mazurskie 2709,53 zł
Podkarpackie 2702,70 zł

News / What are Poland's optimal both real and virtual neighbors? [81]

I just have a question in regards to what countries Polish people think are their optimal neighbors

Ukraine is definitely one of them Nathan. Many similarities in ethnics, culture, food, mentality. It's no wonder Poles and Ukrainians get along abroad.

History / Nowa Huta and other achievments of PRL (People's Republic of Poland) [79]

Urzad Gminy, she decided who gets money in her gmina for welfare also goes to places that have been let's say damaged by floods and decides if they get money for it. In her gmina in Podkarpackie that's how much they pay. Her husband works at a steel mill as a welder and makes like 1800zl. So it all depends on the job and what region you work in. People in economics, in marketing in big cities or who own their own business make serious money.

Shows how much you know! The average wage in Poland as a whole is 3,403zl, it's higher than that in places like Warsaw and Krakow.

Huh? Dude you're been there for a few years and in one place so shut up! It depends on the region, different region different average wages. Warsaw yea but Warsaw is 2x more expensive to live in. My aunt a college educated woman who's been working for over 20 years in a good position, government job makes 2200 a month. In Lublin, in Podkarpackie, Podlaskie and many other provinces your 3403 is a dream for most people. Like I said, if our buddy from the article makes 4,400 zl a month it's good money in Poland.

Too many English words in the Polish language!

hot dogi
...

I don't like that either it's like we're loosing or own language. There's an existing Polish word for it already and if there isn't it can easily be invented. There's no need what so ever to put in word that doesn't sound Polish at all. Offsetting, marketing, outing, coach!!!!! c'mon
