Isn't this whole thread based on patriotism?

Its based on raking up the past when there is no need. Im sorry I posted about Italy..even though they did change sides an awful lot.

Italians.

French had no chance, they were occupied, they also had a massive underground network, without their help, the war could not have been won same as Dutch.

just don't like it when men kiss women's hands; it's so subservient although it is meant as politeness.

Subservient? What a twisted view you have.

branded as evil feminists.

They use the term feminazis these days...how cool is that? A dominatrix just springs to mind when I hear that term though..

UK, Ireland / Documentary on foreign and local workers in a town in England. [66]

I already know that in some countries they're already speculating that half of the office workers in the governmential system should be layed off and sent home.

They are planning massive cuts in the UK...

What was that you were saying about those "others" being targetted?

I could provide links for every city in the UK...how many jobs is that?

UK, Ireland / Documentary on foreign and local workers in a town in England. [66]

The job scene in the UK was pretty grim before 2004 anyhow. Some of the jobs on offer were a joke.

If you think it was bad then, you should see it now...wages are lower now than they were then! Only minimum wage seems to be rising...

One thing that does concern me in this country is that we are moving away from apprenticeships, why should an employer spend money training up a young lad when he can get a qualified foreigner do to the job for the same money? Youth of today a phucked before they even start! But on a positive slant, the government are moving towards technical colleges where “skills” and “trades” are taught, only problem is how do they then get experience? At least it’s a step in the right direction, but it is strong indicator that employers cant be bothered investing in our own…

Britain's working class bore the brunt of the decision to open the floodgates.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing Sheepy, not one person imagined for one minute that millions would flock here..Had they been more aware (like Germany were) there would have been a resounding NOT A PHUCKING CHANCE!

UK, Ireland / No job unless you're Polish [201]

I worked on the WCRM upgrade on a secondment for 12 months, I attended several enquiries - the accidents that could have happened due to negligence were frightening - miscommunication between English people happens..I know most of the reputable site safety firms wont hire foreign labour because of this...clear communication and a high level of respect for safety regulations is a must in certain environments....

There aren't many Chinese people in rural Britain. And it would be hard for them to live in the countryside without speaking at least some English.

Thts true, Ive never seen a Chinese person in the countryside or a village, but I know Chinese people speak pretty good English (we have a large Chinese community in Manchester and never come across one that didnt speak English) and if you know a Chinese person who was born in the UK they always have regional accent and you wouldnt guess they were Chinese apart from their appearance..

UK, Ireland / No job unless you're Polish [201]

Many employers demand you speak some kind of a foreign language these days.

Its never happened before in the UK, until relatively recent times.

Now how ridiculous is that? Are we supposed to study Chinese to do simple tasks in our own country next year?

Well, not really because the Chinese generally speak very good English ;0)

I dont have a problem with companies asking for a language if there is a need, say for instance there was an interesting job I saw the other day but Swedish was needed, I am assuming they do business with Swedish companies so...there is a genuine need..but a meat packing factory, it was just another way of alienating Brits, as I said, I hope they close the recruitment agency down and stop them from trading ever again...The idiots in HR at the company that they supplied staff to should be sacked!

UK, Ireland / The Daily Mail - coverage of the Polish people [161]

And almost all of them would refuse to pay more for a product produced in Britain. They might give lip service about it - but in reality, none of them want to pay 25-30% more for their British produced goods.

Wrong, I stay with o2 because they have UK based call centres, I could have slashed my contract by a 1/3 had I gone to Orange....I buy British meat and British veg and all my white appliances are Hotpoint - sorry what was that you were saying?

As for cheap backed beans...Branstons and Heinz are made in the UK and neither are cheap.

You really do think you know it all dont you Delph?

People that buy cheap products do so because they simply cant afford to buy anything else...

What about software developers and software project managers?

I imagine its being done in all industries, salaries have been driven down...for instance, a friend of mine is a finance administrator (high level) she was made redundant, her salary was £30k, lol, now she is looking and the average is £15k - she was at her company for 8 years, you explain to me, how a salary can half in 8 years?

UK, Ireland / No job unless you're Polish [201]

Brits and Paddies are loosing the competition to the Polish even in the UK - on their own grounds. Do you think they could "undercut" anything in Poland? Don't think so.

Its not competition, Poles live a very different life-style whilst they are working over here...certainly not one that most if not all Brits would live - This is our home, not somewhere to go and work and then leave.

Its much easier to blame Polish workers.

If someone works for less than the minimum wage then they are the cause of the problem (they do this freely) - we didnt fight for workers rights for some foreigners to come in and undermine that..Thats sounds harsh but its true.

Work permit scheme

Is a perfect answer to the solution - where there is a need an employer would have to apply for these vacancies to be filled if there were no Brits to fill it.

The existing ones are quite good

Not for us they are not - this is clear as they seem to be being broken at every turn.

Does every ATM in Britain use English and Polish? In fact, before you withdraw 20 pounds from your ATM do you have to press 1 for English or 2 for Polish?

No, they give the option for French or German. At the new metro ticket machines, they give the option for English, French, German, Spanish and then Polish.

he is looking at it from the right perspective.

If an English person is turned down for a job because he doesnt speak Polish then its wrong, what other perspective is there to look at it from?

Look, I have no issue whatsoever with people of other nationalities coming to work in the UK, if they apply for a job and get the job based on education, skills and experience then they got the job in a fair manner, if they got the job in the UK based solely on the fact they were cheap labour then I do have an issue, because this has a damaging affect on our the indiginous people. I can post some links about how hard the Brits worked and fought for the rights of workers, if you like? These rights are being destroyed.

Its all about supply and demand, if the supply outstrips the demand then we have a problem and this is becoming a problem in the UK.

english can speak just english.

What all them? My niece speaks English, French and Spanish - all fluently..so you sir are talking sh*te...Quite a few speak German too, we have the odd few that speak Latin

The answer is simple, dear Watson: Such an English person shall want to learn Polish in order to get a job.
This is silly, but one can't argue with the reality.

The reality is that they are breaking the law...and such and English person shouldn't have to speak a useless language to get a job in England...maybe if they were applying for a job in Poland in a meat factory it would be useful, but not in England...they want Poles because they are cheap and are a bit naive to the laws in this country, after this though, you might find that his second factory is burnt to the ground :D

Frankly - no one seems to blame them.

Really? I think you might find that the feelings of many Brits are becoming more and more hostile towards immigrants from certain countries, so yes lots of people blame them....You are looking at it from a different perspective, so I understand you are quite ignorant about how my countrymen feel.

so, every employer has right to choice talented employees

News / Did you know that Polish army is the weakest in Central Europe?.. [150]

Nevermind, our friend United Kingdom will help us like the last time... uhm.. wait

I was waiting for that...In the case of another war, I'd hope that we turned our back in the first instance and let you defend yourselves and not have our men dying left right and centre only to be stabbed in the back by some ungrateful peasant years after.

If they put it to the British vote, most would say, lets be friends with the Germans, better economy and they're not over here in their 1,000s :D

Talk to your goverment.

Dont worry, when the next lot get in there will be some changes...Labour have ruined this country and the next lot know how we all feel about immigration, their first job's pretty much been spelt out to them.

To get a job.

Are you stupid or are you intentionally being a fuckwit? The company is based in England, where funnily enough we speak English, its our national language, Polish isnt so why would a person going for a job at a British company need to speak a language thats only spoken by a tiny minority in England or in fact in the world...

How can you make a mistake like that in advertising? Also, I'd understand it if they had to liaise with their Polish counterparts (of which ASDA hasn't) but that wasn't the case. It was an attempt to get cheap labour and that's exclusionist and wrong.

The advert were sent out by a Polish agency who have set up shop here in the UK, or thats what it sounds like to me, I hope they're taken to court and better still kicked out of the UK.

I understand they were turned away not for not being polish but for not speaking polish.right or wrong?

Why on gods earth would an ENGLISH person who lives in ENGLAND who would like a job in a meat packing factory want to learn Polish? We speak ENGLISH in ENGLAND, no? The factory is based in ENGLAND.

They are comparatively unproductive and, to put it bluntly, just lazy

Yeah, such lazy cvnts, how on earth did we manage to colonise half the world? Oh I know, we got the Poles to do it...so secretly, our success was actually down to Polish people because the English are such lazy mo fo's :D Give me a break!

I have noticed a sharp increase in job offers here "as gaelige". A most welcome development.

Good, Gaelige is your language, same as English is mine..Shame we don’t have notices for that in England..

It's a sign of weakness and national decadence..

Yawn...English is an international language, its also becoming a necessity for a person who wants to gain British citizenship or for someone to study here in the UK...

That would be blatant discrimination. Then again, that would be The Daily Mail.

It is the DM, but that doesnt make it a lie,

UK, Ireland / The Daily Mail - coverage of the Polish people [161]

written on "The Metro", the free underground tabloid

It part of the same group (DM and Metro are one in the same) - the main news stories in any of papers are taken of Reuters (for both papers)

The sort of people who read the Daily

The misconception that DM readers are uneducated isnt quite true, the demographics are as follows:

middle class
high earning professionals
retired middle class

(ABC1 - readers to be exact)

I dont think we can just blame the DM for the bad press immigrants get, most papers have had a go about the high numbers.

No I dont read it, I just know a bit about the DM and advertising...which is mainly where the news papers get their revenue from these days, not Joe Public paying 70p or whatever it is - so evidently some of the large companies who advertise in the DM dont mind its content.

'The Daily Mail' is not allowed here" (that is, at their home) - they told me.

I bet they read the Guardian?

So... the question is how much The Daily Mail changed British attitude toward Polish people?

I would imagine very little - since most that read it are not affected by Poles living in the UK..i.e. low income, non professional.

UK, Ireland / Which country is more corrupt - Poland or the UK? [35]

And there's no-one to investigate the investigators!

There are independet bodies set up.

Most countries are corrupt at some level...I dont see Brits starving in the streets because the goverment purchased guns instead of food, or that we are bleeding to death in emergency rooms because the goverment spent all the money ment for hospitals on guns or big cars....As corrupt as my country my seem, Im more than happy to live here and aparently are millions of foreigners..

Travel / Poland from a Persian Tourist's Perspective [269]

i merely asked you why is that other ethnic groups that are dark skinned/haired dont have the same anti-social behaviour when migrating to other countries.

Because they have the same values that their host country has, they go with the flow rather than trying to change the demographics of their host country, whilst they live in communties, they are not ghettos.

They're treated just as bad as Middle Easterners as they're far too often mistaken for being from the Middle East thus being categories that way

No they NOT, I went to a Catholic school and there were many many Italians (decent) and non were thought of as Arabs...Been to Spain many times and I dont see them as looking anything like Arabs....My friend was married to a Greek guy, he didnt look like an Arab and their son doesnt look half Arab...You evidently didnt read my post, Italians came in large numbers, they integrated fine, the did well...the enriched our culture with their food and traditions...They came to the UK when there was no benefit system and our infrastructure was pretty poor, they helped make the country what it is now.

many are wholly disinformed about how Iran is run and their intentions

I think we are all aware of how Iran is run, the elections were televised around the world for all to see. I feel sorry for the young that want change.

USA, Canada / Dual citizenship - US doesn't care if you don't give up Polish passport [103]

The UK has traditions, and meaningless ones at that.

This citizenship bollox is new and not a tradition, they went along the American style route, invented to make foreigners feel special! again...you show your lack of knowledge about these matters.

and you'd still be a citizen if you were born here.

Wrong, being born in the UK doesn NOT give you automatic rights to citizenship if you are a foreigner, although being born to both English parents does give you automatic rights.

Much of the UK system is not written down, but accepted as law simply because it is common practise and common sense.

I think you'll find that our legal system is well documented. What planet are you from, are you actually British?

Travel / Poland from a Persian Tourist's Perspective [269]

Your Pakistani/Indian example here is completely wrong Pakistanis and Indians are the same people but Pakistan and India are two very different countries, two very different people and two very different cultures...

What are you talking about, before the partitioning there was no Pakistan, before the colonisaiton of the Brits, India was a WHOLE country...both muslims and Hindus lived side by side and co-existed (the wars with the Indians and the Brits actually started with the Sikhs)...The British caused a lot of the mess and division...As a English person Im not proud of this (but its not my shame, its decades ago), but I know the history, unlike you.

No it's not. They were white Europeans who came to a country that was already occupied by other white Europeans. All they had to do was to assimilate, talk the same way, eat the same food, adopt the same values. After a generation or two they where the same as the locals.

Then you know little about Europe or England for that matter, because Italians that came from the rural areas and settled in Manchester in the mid 19th century were very different to the locals..yet they integrated...they had different ways and a different lanaguge but over 200 later..they are still here with the churches they founded...By the way Italians are olived skinned and dark eyed...where they settled, people were pale as cotton sheets.....One thing we do have is great Italian food in Manchester....so what was that you were saying?

Just in case you dont believe me.

Love / How to convince English boyfriend to learn Polish? [39]

Is Poland really uninteresting for English people and if so why do they despite that decide to have Polish partners?

He learnt Spanish because he was in love and liked the language...sounds like he has little interest in you let alone your language if he cant be bothered to say thanks in your mother tongue. But bear in mind, Spanish is easy on the longue for a Brit, Polish is like spitting stones...Its just not natural for us - as Im told time again by a friend English is Toooooooooo soft!
