Life / Are there any Muslim areas in Poland? [173]

mafketis-no integration then

Are you telling me that I have to be a Christian in other to be integrated here? My Polish friends respect my values and I respect theirs too. If there weren't differences then no one would have talk about integration. They don't give me a shot of Vodka or a bowl of soup that contains pork when they invite me for dinner. I suppose they understand integration better than you and I, don't they?

Life / Are there any Muslim areas in Poland? [173]

Wulkan-I read in the news that a lot of muslims leave Poland due to the increase of attacks on the streets

I'm not going to argue about that because I haven't heard from any Muslim saying he is going to live Poland or has been attacked after the unfortunate incident in Paris. I still see the same faces I have been seeing in the mosque except that there are new faces popping up every Fridays. Believe or not, Poles are embracing Islam here in Wroclaw. If you doubt what I am saying then I can invite you to where we worship in order for you to meet and speak some of them. We're not as your media portray us.

mafketis-How do you deal with the presence of so many things in daily life that strict muslims think are immoral?

You can practice Islam where ever you find yourself in this world. Thinking something is immoral is different from doing it. So yes, I abstain from what ever is unlawful in my religion.

mafketis-How can very observant muslims hope to integrate in an environment filled with so many things that are haram?

Like I mentioned earlier, living in an environment where so many things are haram is not enough to prevent a muslim from living there. Of course if the environment was hostile that would have been a different case, which in my case it is not so I'll go on with my religion and they go on with their way of life. It's as easy as that.

Life / Are there any Muslim areas in Poland? [173]

Levi-unless you are another Pakistani / Turkish trying to impose Sharia Law and Muslim Areas at Poland

You living in the Middle East doesn't mean you know anything about Islam. In case you don't know, the religion Islam is against coercing anyone into accepting Islam. You can google this chapter, it will enlighten you a little.

Quran 109:1-6

Binaca-Then what relegion are you??

Unless you are telling me she has no right to belong to the other religions such as Buddhism among the others, perhaps an Atheist if you've forgotten.

There are already Muslims in Poland and our community 'll continue to grow bigger. In sha Allah!

NocyMrok-They told me they skip/ignore the evil parts of the Quran.

Whoever told you there is something evil about the Quran is already not a Muslim.

I ain't Muslim

You seem to be nursing a great deal hate against Muslims. Who told you the Muslims discriminates against women?

Study / Transfer ECTS credits to a Polish university...possible? [13]

if i transfer lets say 150 ETCS, at least 75 must match with the polish list of courses ?

That is 50% but that doesn't guarantee your admission but it qualifies you for the transfer. I hope I made myself clear enough?

I believe the transcript must be legalized or apostilled and in polish ? ( or english ?)

If the transcript is not in English then you need to translate it to English. At this stage the legalization is not necessary. It's just for you know if your courses or ECTs could be accepted here. Anyway, you need to speak with the school, if possible request for the email of the Dean. That will make things easier for you.

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

mafketis-The "push' here is coming from administration, not so much from faculty.

Yeah! that is why the teachers are squeezing some time out of their busy schedules just to attend private English courses. Are you telling me they are not at liberty to turn down those proposals made by the administration?

mafketis-They've fallen under the allure of an imperial language and imbibed a toxic ideology about its superiority?

Unless you're telling me you haven't also fallen for that. LOL

mafketis-I've heard wonderfully eloquent and effective teachers (in Polish) who operate at about 50% when they use English.

Is true though........ is just sad that they have accepted an offer they know they can't truely and genuinely deliver.

Study / Transfer ECTS credits to a Polish university...possible? [13]

My questions is if its possible to transfer my ECTS credits done to a polish university.

It is possible only on the condition that you have at least 50% of the ECTs being the same as the one offered in the Polish university. Also you will have to agree that you will take exams on all courses that do not much or couldn't be transfered (thus; if your ECTs fall short of the required sum at the end of the academic year). I'm currently working on a transfer for a friend who is due to commence in February. The first step is to get your most recent transcript, then send it to the Dean of the faculty of the university you intend to attend. If there are similarities then you stand a chance.

EU nationals study with the same conditions as polish students ( free tuition fees?).

As far as I know, the Polish students I have studied with were paying some subsidized fees(not as much as we the non EU) if they opt to study in English. However, English Philology is free for the Polish.

Work / Studies In Poland, is it easy to survive on part-time jobs? [259]

mafketis-State universities are better but most are really not prepared to teach in English (no reason they should be, their mission is to prepare students to live in Poland.

Most of the tutors are pushing to be offered courses which are taught in English even though most of them cannot speak English for 5 minutes without committing grammatical error.

Moreover, majority of our classmates are Polish, guess you want to know why? There are more study materials in English than there will ever be in Polish. Not a bad choice, huh? Next time you want to express your opinion regarding a topic, I will suggest you do a little research.

Study / Thinking about completing my studies in Poland, perhaps for a permanent stay. [CANADA/M/17] [3]

I have some 15-20 thousand dollars saved for University

If you intend to study in Poland with the budget you've already quoted here I bet it's going to be fine for you. As someone who studies here, I can tell you that $20,000 for 3 years will be more than enough(though your life lifestyle really matters). There is a school here in Poland where you can study for free for the first year as an International Student then pay 2400 EUR for the subsiquent years. It could be a good boaster in your case.

completely fluent in French and English

That puts you in a keen position to secure a job even whiles in school(In case you're considering a part-time job). You will have no problem securing a job in Poland even after graduation, and trust me, you don't need Polish to find a job with knowledge of the above mentioned languages (Polish is extremely important in your social life though).

I am giving you an honest advice; if you are interested in studying in Poland or living here, then do it ;). Else you're going to regret that you didn't take a chance. I am an international Student here in Poland and I'm enjoying every bit of it. I know most Poles don't like their own country. If they happen to stumble upon this thread, they will give you every farcical reason not to come here. GO FOR IT!!!

Life / Welcome to Poland ! (Stay away for your own sake) [239]

Ironside-Although Poland is a Christian country and Muslims in general should look for greener pastures somewhere else, maybe France or Netherlands.

You're at it again! Mind you, most of the foreigners here actually have no plans of staying forever. The last time i checked, people who are practical Christians here in Poland were old people or does Christianity starts at old age in this place?

It baffles me a lot when I read these anti-muslim bashing on here. I am a black muslim but I have never really encountered any problem here. People I meet on daily basis seem to be very different from what I am reading on here, or are you guys just trolls?

Ironside-Well Muslims in general are not welcome in Poland, especially after what going on in the world at the movement.

Muslims are already here, and trust me many Poles are embracing Islam day in day out, if you care to know. If you really blame what the so called muslims did on all Muslims then i'm so sorry for you. If you have some time to spare then I'll urge you to read about the radical muslims who are inflicting pain on innocent human beings. Almost all of them were not even practical muslims.

Have you crossed the borders of Poland? Somewhere Netherlands Polish men I considered to be bicycle thieves and the girls are said to be prostitutes. That is just their opinion anyway, and it doesn't in any way represent the life style of a typical Polish yet the Dutch claim to be right in tugging Poles with such misdemeanor.

Life / We the foreigners are unfairly stereotypical towards the Polish. [6]

I have been living here over a year now (i guess is an ideal time span to form an opinion about a place?). I vividly remember during my first week people, especially friends of my own race use to tell me never to go places alone. Always urging me to be extra careful when dealing with the Polish. Contrary to all the stories I have heard, none has ever happened to me.

I like going to parties alone, talking lonely walks deep in to the night, sitting in the parks alone at midnight (I have made a lot of drunk friends during this late night adventure). Isn't that which people will tell you to be wary of?

Of all the experiences people are recounting on here, seem to look like a complete farce to me. I think we ought to change our mentality towards them. Poland has never been an integrated community so we shouldn't expect them to change out of the blue. They have always been about 90 to 95% Polish in Poland.

@jose67
I am a black African and a muslim(a rare minority in Poland) who has been living here for some time now. I'm not discrediting the fact that you have had awful experiences but then, I'll only say you are just unlucky. I have never had any of these experiences though I do hear people complaining of such.....

People stare at me but I don't consider that as being offensive because I remember doing the same when I was in my country. I was always staring at white people out curiosity so I assume that people who do it to me in Poland do it without malice.
