History / Question about the Polish exiles in Siberia 19th century? [3]

Polish exiles who escaped Siberia

One example is Maurycy Bieniowski

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice,_Count_de_Benyovszky

But there were many others:

Every attempt to break away from the Siberian mat has bordered on the madness. And yet such accidents happened more often, especially in the nineteenth century. It is confirmed by the fascinating book of Wiktoria Sliwowska "Siberian Escapes". The adventurous escape of Maurycy Beniowski, a Bar Confederate, is described in his own memoirs, which contributed to his legend in the days of Romanticism. However, there were many other escapes, most often unsuccessful, but testifying to the anxiety of the Poles, above all, about the disagreement over tsarist judgments and repression.

Law / How to get a citizenship for child without consent of father [8]

Anyway, from what I read, the consent of a father is one of the requirements:

5. the declaration of the other parent to consent for granting the Polish citizenship to the child

My loose translation from this website:

Law / Who qualifies as a journalist for constitutional protection in Poland? [2]

There are no formal requirements for the journalist profession. It means that everyone may work in this business. The professional education is welcomed however not necessary. Check this article (in Polish)

lexplay.pl/artykul/Prawo-Pracy/Czy-bloger-to-tez-dziennikarz-Definicja-dziennikarza-wedlug-Prawa-prasowego

Press Act of 1984 established a very wide range of people who can be called journalists. There are no requirements for qualifications or obligation to belong to a professional organization. Practically anyone can be a journalist.

UK, Ireland / How to find a Polish Trainee for my business in the UK [5]

I think that there are many Poles in London area who read job offers in local newspapers and websites. Pay for an advert and wait for replies. Another way is to find some Polish shops, businesses and leave there your leaflets and/or business cards.

I'm sure many Polish people would be interested.
Good luck

Language / Polish Grammar quiz/puzzles: [47]

I don't feel authorized to answer Polish grammar questions anymore, but maybe it can help a bit.
First, a correction:

Portefel był zgubiony od Jana

You probably meant "Portfel został zgubiony przez Jana"
You're probably right with the claim, that the passive form is not used commonly. At least in everyday talk/writing.
Obejść/obchodzić in the meaning you have on mind means "to go around". But there are also another meanings of those words. Guess what ;)
Chemikem - congrats for your Polish knowledge.

EDIT: Too late...

Language / Polish Grammar quiz/puzzles: [47]

The test above is too difficult for foreigners. It may discourage many from learning Polish.
Or... perhaps it's just me - I'm native and I was embarrassed by this - and I always thought that my Polish is quite good... Is it because that I became oversaturated with a colloquial, often wrong language? It's just my excuse ;)

Real Estate / Renting apartment in Poland, only via landlord? [5]

are there also companies that rent appartment, if so how this is called?

Polish name for it is "pośrednictwo wynajmu" - rental agency.

I'm really curious if there is a way to rent some appartment from a company instead of landlord.

It depends from a landlord (mostly an owner) if he needs to order such service, eg. he have no time to deal with it alone, and has multiple properties. So not all apartments for rent have assigned agents. There's no choice for you I'm afraid.

Life / Woman born 1985 in Czarny Dunajec, Poland looking for biological mother [2]

orphanages in Poland

The closest to the Czarny Dunajec seems to be this one in Zakopane: domydziecka.org/placowka,207.html

Kasia Leja

Looks like a Polish name: Kasia - diminutive from Katarzyna in Poland, and Leja - a surname (and very popular in the Czarny Dunajec/Nowy Targ area): moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/leja.html

Bozena

Bożena - Polish first name.

Katarzyna Leja could be your mother's name - but this is just a guess-work.

Language / Help with song recognition about slonce [5]

I'm glad I could help :) It's a shame that the song quality is poor, and I think than I hear Russian mostly there, although not sure..

So is this the song your Grandmother was singing?

This is somewhat similar in those words 'Słońce wschodzi i zachodzi', but probably not the same song:

I noticed that people with the Plis surname are about to locate mostly in the Kolbuszowa town.
moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/plis.html
From the above site it can be also seen, that the Ples last name also exist nearby. The Pless surname is the rarest name in Poland from those listed before.

Law / Foreigners giving birth in Poland - documents needed [2]

From what I have read on some Polish websites, these are documents needed, when delivering a child in Poland:
- a photo ID,
- a proof if insurance (in a public hospital) - non-insured may have to pay for yourself for everything (does not apply to emergency cases - in that circumstance nobody should charge a fee)

- the medical records of pregnancy,
- additional medical records would be helpful, like determination of blood group and Rh, complete blood count (morphology), Fetal & Prenatal Ultrasound

You may also check this - the information for migrant women who are expecting a child in Poland (in Polish):

Law / Customs clearance for a cell phone from China to enter Poland [5]

If your package is taken by the customs then, after couple of days, you'll receive a letter in which they describe what they need from you. It should be a scan of your invoice with the amount of money on it, your short description about the item, eg. Sony smartphone ...

I thing best to use regular China/HK post - they also provide the tracking number. If you choose DHL or Fedex, the delivery will be much faster, but with 99% chance of Poland's TAX (23% for electronics)

History / Would love some info about my found Polish stamps. [3]

In my opinion these stamps have much more historical value that the monetary. I'm not sure how rare they are, although found some info about similar stamps on the Net.

I saw one exactly the same stamp as yours (the first one from upper left, first link) and someone gave the price for it 40PLN in an auction (not known if someone bought it).

On the other site I found this:
znaczki-pl.com/en/auctions/lot/50/4/0/239874
One of your stamps, however a set with stamped postcard costs here even 800PLN (no bids though)
Maybe try to put something on this site.

Here in Poland only people with a nasty cirrhosis can get a treatment, most are waiting for their turn for years, and even then the treatment is often ineffective.

But there's another, faster and reliable way - generics from India purchase.

Law / Free movement of work in EU for non EU resident (Russian) livening in Poland and married to a Pole [2]

As far I know being a resident of Poland doesn't entitle a non-EU citizen to work in the EU area. Only EU passport holder can enter Schengen and work without permit there. Even those who have work visa in Poland are only allowed to have a job in this country. You may enter Schengen area for the period up to 90 days, but there's no "free movement of work in EU" for you yet. Sorry.

Language / Word clarification (Polish): the word for axle stands. [9]

I'm not sure about the "street" English language (since I'm not a native speaker), and those cited words above comes most likely from an average intelligent, young individual, so my 'smooth' translation would be:

kozaku ... a ty taki boss

don't be such a smartass

wez sie odwal

bugger off
