News / THE PARTYS OVER... NO MORE EUROS FOR POLAND'S ROADS [71]

How many of these new highways are private toll roads? They are building these roads with goverment money and then robbing the taxpayer again?

wrong
some are built privately
for example a2 swiecko-konin that was built with private money
(and a little bit of eu cash
for example the poznan bypass)
they arent robbing taxpayers because they didnt get taxpayer money

the ones that the gddkia built and are public
some are tolled
but these tolls are solely to pay for maintenance
which is why the tolls are much lower
i really dont think 16zl from wroclaw to katowice is a bad deal
especially given the lack of vignettes or road taxes

get your facts right

Work / I'M SO SURPRISED BY THIS SALARY FOR IBM in WROCLAW 3000 ZL gross [135]

Two years unemployment is worse than useless. Keep it up and your next job offer will be even less..

two years in today's eu
no reason whatsoever
i also wonder why she is applying for first line work
if shes so experienced and qualified

The people for IBM seem to exist in a bubble, I got to know an IBM transition Manger from the UK, he was open about IBM pay structures even in the UK the salaries are very low by comparison, the incentives are given by way of travel or upgrade of cars, there is a salary ceiling at IBM, if you do not like it - you leave. Many people get trapped by the culture not the salary.

i only know a little thing
but i know ibm are famous for promoting people into obscurity
you get a nice title office travel car etc
but you actually have a non job
and people end up leaving because of it

strange company strange practices

News / Characterizing Poland's political parties [33]

it would be a great read
if it wasnt totally incorrect

Poland as a state was falling to pieces by 1981
the police state was barely functioning
and by the mid 80s
there was effectively a state within a state as the people simply ignored the authorities
east Germany was far more repressed than Poland by that point
the murder of one priest does not make a police state

UK, Ireland / Is there actually anything cheaper in Poland than in UK? [51]

They send an employee of the BBC or a sub-contractor to the address and if they can prove a TV is being used for watching live TV then there's a large court fine for the tenant to pay. I think it's GBP1000 sometimes (5500zł)

anyone with an ounce of common sense knows exactly
how to deal with those 'inspectors'

dont open the door
dont talk
dont negotiate
dont say anything

Sorry but 6 pln for a beer is for sure not a typical price in Kraków, more like 8-10 at least

really not
in winter months
6-7pln is normal

UK, Ireland / Why are Brits so left-wing? [60]

hardly
the vatican is perhaps a great example of socialism in practice
in theory theres equality
in reality the higher one progresses
the richer one gets

the european elite isnt particularly wealthy

Life / Washing machine in the bathroom of Poles [78]

I suspect that the reason not many people from the West will come to Poland, is that we will never understand you and you will never understand us....let us agree to differ.

perhaps you have problems understanding them
but i and many others dont

a quick read of some history books
might help

for what its worth
i dont recognise the poland that you talk about
i think
a lot of it is in your head

Work / I'M SO SURPRISED BY THIS SALARY FOR IBM in WROCLAW 3000 ZL gross [135]

we dont have this "entry level" here in Greece even now with the 60% unemployement and the crisis

you dont have entry level jobs in greece?
no wonder the country is ruined if everyone wants to be managers
and not workers

Nevertheless, they want avid speakers, possibly native ones or with great proficiency, in this company also ask for experience and they offer 590 euros??!!!I think its ridiculous!!!

as i said
poland has a steep career path society
prove yourself and you can earn 10x that

News / Characterizing Poland's political parties [33]

I don't think you understand the diagram

the problem is that the graph doesnt really take into account things such as PO having quite a few centre-left politicans who wouldnt go near the SLD

or PiS having some members who are far more in PO territory
it is insanely difficult to categorise polish politics due to the awkward positions of parties
even the SLD can be quite right wing in some economic areas

the thing is
the more people like you say these things
the more people will vote RP

No, not exactly. I'm pointing out that he managed to find a huge gap in the political scene, a place in the spectrum not represented by any political party, mostly unrepresented in parliament, yet having supporters. Once a significant party popped up (Ruch Palikota), people sharing these values of personal and economical freedom, showed their support.

indeed
RP is something totally new in Poland
a party untainted with the past
a party that stands for here and now
and most of all
a party that stands for personal and economic freedom
it says it all that RP won seats in virtually every electoral district
including PiS heartlands

I can blame them all I want. Liberal druggy hipster sodomites who want to turn Poland into dung. Hang them.

says you
an unemployed canadian
who has done nothing for poland
come back when youve done more than post right wing rubbish on polishforums

but apparently over 10% of Poles support it.

exactly
i think we all know that RP filled a gap in polish politics
a party that was willing to say what they thought
and not for pr reasons

i think its also notable that RP were the only party to stand up against bonuses for public officials in times of austerity
where was legend's beloved PiS?
thats right
they were getting rich off the back of poor people
hypocrites

UK, Ireland / Is there actually anything cheaper in Poland than in UK? [51]

the cost of living in Poland is not much lower than in most of western Europe

really

i dont recall finding good quality meat at anything near polish prices in germany
i dont recall being able to get things made or fixed at a very reasonable cost
i dont recall being able to travel across half of western european countries for a reasonable price
the list goes on

Don't you know PP started being serious about it?Many ppl got "wezwanie do zapłaty".They can charge you up to 5 years. That's about 2.000 zł.

i saw
but i wonder how long it will last
the government doesnt support the fee after all

Sure :)))))))

i suggest you start by looking up the statistics on how many people are rent/mortgage free

then again
you left poland years ago
what would you know

UK, Ireland / Is there actually anything cheaper in Poland than in UK? [51]

I mean rather basic things not entertainment.

entertainment is quite a lot cheaper
for instance
i have a lightning fast internet connection (100mbps, soon to be 250mbps) for around 60zl a month
you will not find that in the uk
and it is uncapped
uk intenet connections are normally capped at a ridiculous low amount of bandwidth

News / THE PARTYS OVER... NO MORE EUROS FOR POLAND'S ROADS [71]

what on earth are you talking about
poland was incredibly poor during the 90's and had no money for building roads! they had barely enough money to keep people alive at even sort-of european standards yet alone building motorways!!!

a lot was built between 2004 and the present day
and if poland gets built what they have planned for the next budget cycle
the country will be almost complete
it is an incredible transformation
and done without resorting to vignettes or road tax

UK, Ireland / Is there actually anything cheaper in Poland than in UK? [51]

All flats are much more expensive in Wrocław in real terms if based on local wages as wages in Wroclaw are much lower and yet rents are not.

are they really
remember poland has rapid increases in income as you get promoted
wroclaw is quite a wealthy city
with average salaries well over 4000zl a month

In my experience, a typical grocery shop in Poland is not that much cheaper than a Briton pays.

i would love to know where you can buy a bag of fresh vegetables for the price that you can in poland
or meat for that matter

what you also need to understand is that poles have much more disposable income than british people
many young people are now inheriting flats
with no mortgage

Work / I'M SO SURPRISED BY THIS SALARY FOR IBM in WROCLAW 3000 ZL gross [135]

Nevertheless it is a SHAME to be offering such salaries!Even if Poland is cheaper than Greece how can u live with paying rent with 590 euros???!!!

why is it a shame
poland has a culture of rapid pay rises with promotion
its a first level job
nothing that actually requires much skill

And quite honestly when I go "shopping" I see empty floor space at most malls

dunno which shopping malls you visit
perhaps youd like to tell me
lets say wroclaw
i dont remember seeing any empty units in magnolia dominikanska korona grunwalska

obviously another lie

As for the housing market, well, I don't know why you're asking as everyone knows it's tanked.

has it
i dont think so

as my name says
i smell nonsense

if it had tanked
i would be buying in cash with pleasure
except it hasnt

Real Estate / Astounded by the poor value of residential property here in Wroclaw [92]

one thing that inwroclaw isnt taking into account
small flats are expensive in poland
as in most of the world
it really isnt much more money to rent a large flat than a small one
it might be 2000zl for a small flat
but 2500zl for a much bigger one

Work / I'M SO SURPRISED BY THIS SALARY FOR IBM in WROCLAW 3000 ZL gross [135]

IBM or Capgemini I would say 3-4,000 Brutto max in Wro or Krk.

maximum
they know they can get a fresh supply every year of unemployed 'humanitistic' graduates
why pay more?

this is why i think wroclaw
is built on very uncertain foundations

Life / Foreigners in Poland - the identities of our native or the host country [66]

However, Poland shouldn't be reduced to being one big greenfield project for foreign business and foreign workers to come in and exploit to the max while the sustainability of the long term needs and interests of native Poles are completely disregarded.

given that the eu has directly subsidised many of the poorest members of polish society
they really shouldnt complain
