Sure you count, Donkey! You are one of the nice ones! :) And amusing, too!

Hi LIR! I saw you had slipped back in....thought you would fool us without the intials in caps, huh? You always had a devious side, hehe! I hope you are doing well! (Actually, everytime I pop a Zomig for a migraine, I do wonder how you are in an empathetic type of way!) lol

England isn't flooding this summer I take it? I had visions of Daisy rowing to work last year! Where is that kitten, btw? :)

Off-Topic / PF - The Omnibus Edition [1502]

A hearty welcome to you all from the front line of the War on Reason. As I speak, the situation here on PF goes from bad to worse. There are insults flying, vitriolic personal attacks are on the increase and the casualty rate is climbing. It is hard to see from this fox hole just who is fighting who anymore.

This was amusing to me....coz it does seem that PF has gotten more.....hostile (is that the right word?) over the past year. Or maybe it is just my nostaglia for the "class of spring/summer 2007" group that seemed more like a family. ??????

These days I mostly read a bit here and there and then slip away quietly to recover! hehe

News / Polish Immigrants Leave America for Europe [210]

Sure...

To give you the back story

Thanks for that. I wish others had the same wealth of experience that you do. :)

I have a standing bet with my fiancee that if it takes less than 10 minutes for someone new to start in on me about how bad the US education system is she has to cook dinner.

I had to chuckle at that...even though it shouldn't be funny! But I know what you meant....

I understand if people are leaving the US for cultural reasons (parts of the US would drive me nuts enough to leave)

And its a BIG country....lots of parts, like lots of little countries rolled into one land mass!

If people want to make the world a better place they need to get out there and repair and redirect it

Absolutely! :)

Good post....thanks for the input.

News / Polish Immigrants Leave America for Europe [210]

When I left the US for the long term I was critical of many US policies and attitudes...but after having been all over the world and spent years living in many different cultures I have changed my opinions.

I would really like to hear some examples...to get some perspective.
We hear plenty on the forum about what is wrong with the US, I haven't ever heard of anyone changing their mind about their perceptions. What do you understand now, from being in other cultures, that you didn't understand then? :)

USA, Canada / Do many Polish people in America hate Americans? [592]

But if you think about it...what's best in one person's eyes may not be so great in another's. Good thing we don't all want the same things, huh? Maybe the basics are the same......nah, I take that back......I don't think everyone could even agree on what the basics are! :)

I would like an isolated cabin in the mountains somewhere so I could be a hermit.
No politics, no pollution, no loud music from a passing car's subwoofers, maybe a little snow and some good chocolate. Hmmmmm, looks like I'm going to Switzerland! :D

USA, Canada / Do many Polish people in America hate Americans? [592]

Apparently there's only one American lifestyle.

hahaha....that's gonna be a big shock to Wisconsin dairy farmer, the Alaskan fishermen, the folks that work on Wall Street, the Texas rodeo circuit, and the Hollywood celebs!

One American lifestyle....who knew? *makes big eyes*

USA, Canada / Do many Polish people in America hate Americans? [592]

Oh my god Fisz, that article was hysterical! I needed a good laugh! :D

But.....Bush is a little bit dangerous, don't you think? hehe *how much longer before he's gone?*
*goes to put another X on the calendar*
The article reminded me of what we Americans have been saying on this forum for a long time......that most of the opinions of us and our culture come from "brief snapshots" that come from the media, a vacation, or our government's latest goof. Rarely is the daily life of America presented via these venues. America is a vast, diversified country, so unless you have lived in all parts of it.....comparisons end up sounding like something from the poem about the blind men and the elephant! *sigh*

Life / What's wrong with you, Polish people - is it an inferiority complex? [120]

In sociology there is something called a "culture of victimhood" ....its a kind of syndrome. I don't know if it applies here (it's a rather complex situation). From what I gather the sociological phenomenon deals with an attitude or viewpoint of superiority via martyrdom.

Life / Thoughts on Music in Poland [132]

Oh, another thing.... What is Disco Polo? is it new? old?

I had never heard of it either.....but from what I understand, many clubs have a night where they play old disco hits from the seventies....and it is popular with the younger kids who (of course missed it the first go around). But somehow I doubt they "dress" in seventies kitsch....could be hard these days to find silver metallic tops, clear acrylic stacked heels and sheer lip gloss.......and a Farrah Fawcett hairdo :)

Love / All Polish women can't be nutters can they? [257]

Well the funny thing is I've been told that I was too good to her!

You were too good to her. She did not return your kindnesses. I view her as someone who depends on the kindness of others, making the rounds as needed.

I expect that if she determines that you have "cut her off" she will replace you with someone else. It is disappointing to see someone behave in this way, but don't think all women are like her. They are not.

I hope that you recover all that you lost, and find someone wonderful. All the best. :)

Yes, I understand. Its not easy.
Just don't let her drag you around. You were good to her. Spend some of that "goodness" on someone worthy. :)

No, no I'm not criticizing you or thinking that you've lost it.
I just hate to see people suffer.
If you know what you are doing and protecting yourself, that's good.
But in another way, spending time with her could be a way of missing out on someone else who's far superior. Ya know?

LT. Navy....why are you putting yourself in a vulnerable position again? She has shown you who she is. Believe her. I'm afraid she's gonna take advantage of you.

Wipe off the spider webs man, and run!

Love / Polish Girls vs Russian Girls [813]

OK, then can you elaborate at all? Is it hard for you to make a cultural comparison in this area? Where could one find a study on this topic?

Then there is the old nature vs. nuture theory, which could illustrate the role of how children are raised into gender roles of a culture.

Comment?
