Off-Topic / Brits, Yanks slur their words? [17]

jabber away at break-neck speed

this could be said about Polish speakers as well ... ;)

Is there more slang?

Yes but thats the case in every language

Why don't they speak clearly and distinctly the way an Italian, Lithuanian or Arab does when speakling English?

That's due to the methods of teaching it could be monotone taught or one would perhaps prefer that one speaks with ones silver spoon on their palate. But ask an Italian, Lithuanian or an Arab then why they speak their English in such a manner

Do you feel English is spoken at a faster rapid-fire rate than other languages?

no (even if im a British native speaker) all languages have a F1 speedometer on the go

Itsh your r-r-round, Gesh me ah beer.

The thread title did conjure up this vision but i dont slur anything my accent is quite distant and strong but i dont use slang that much nor do i type in lazy language ie: text speak

Language / Free and accurate Online Polish-English / English-Polish translator? [49]

plus with the Google one if you tweak the English words you can then make whatever language (target) actually seem correct I've been known to do it a few times and find it works and i have submitted some better translations where i know the words to be wrong for correction :)

Also tip when using Google one is to re translate the translated version back into your native language to make sure it seems right before you tweak it :)

Life / Are there G U M Clinics in Poland?? [9]

it's where you go to get tested for sexually transmitted diseases

it is but in general they are yes but they also offer other services so i wouldn't stigmatize it with STD's soley, I'm not embarrassed to say I've been to them here in UK past few years for general sexual health check i ended up getting my Hep. B vaccine re-boosted even though I'm no longer employed by NHS but as they detected my vaccine was low i got a booster jab :) cant grumble i also had the HIV/Aids test which you can refuse to have carried out if you wish ... but it's nice to know sometimes that you are good in terms of sexual health :)

but in general for the OP they are more often these days referred to as Sexual Health Clinics than GUM which is short for genito-urinary medicine.

Real Estate / PLN 2,500 the going rate for an apartment in Poland [210]

dtaylor5632

Good reflective range there obviously prices vary accordingly and also if do or don't include media which many don't query on initially when looking for a place, its always good to have a breakdown of whats included in what you are going to be paying out for ... !

I know that in the Ruczaj area of Krakow in new builds it is an average of 2000zł a month for a 2 bed apartment including bills except Media ie: Internet/Phone which is via a cable company like UPC which you can get in your own name than your landlords etc ...

Depends on what you're looking for and how much you're willing to pay.

but i would agree with this and also i would say to any potential newbies heading to anywhere in Poland - its better to share really IMHO so you can find your feet etc but thats my two penneth worth :)

History / Should visitors to Auschwitz pay an entrance fee? [82]

I think group tours could be paid for, although perhaps a special deal if it is an educational establishment.

i believe they already do this for group tours and educational establishments.

grinning tourists standing making peace signs under the 'arbeit macht frei' sign.

Real Estate / PLN 2,500 the going rate for an apartment in Poland [210]

Got any festivals lined up for this year?

Not this year as working all summer for Uni such is life ... though couple of gigs lined up though ... next year though going to the Open'er in Gdynia and the Ollesummer in Tallinn and any others which grab me i know i will probably attend quite a number of trade fairs though, due to the type of degree i am doing in September it will be a fab excuse for the summer and valuable networking ;)

it's not classed as part of Krakow

true Huta isnt but if you wish to be away from the hustle and bustle then its a good place to start as any.

net curtains in the living room

not even i use them in UK or used in Poland however voiles yes nets are just something that reminds me of grandma's house lolz

i would say to keep the thread on course the the going rate is fairly reasonable for prices i have seen and paid myself for an apartment in Poland.

dtaylor5632

not bad rental for Scotland that i pay £390 a mth for a 2bed 1st floor flat via a social landlord (housing association) till i move into student halls of residence in September and pay £106 a week (ensuite) ;P
