Travel / Meluzyna - Anyone been to this steak house in Bydgoszcz? [11]

So my friend sent me a link to this place in Bydgoszcz - I was wondering if anyone has been there and what did you think?

You're thinking about going to Bydgoszczy to eat a steak ?? I admire your desperation ;)
Sorry, I've never been there.

Language / When do you use 'się'? And what does it mean? [37]

Write those sentences.

You use "się" when you're talking about something that somebody have to do with her(his)self. For example:
Czy może się Pan przesunąć? - literally "Can you move?" but in can be translated as "Can you get yourself and move?".

You can't use "się" when we have no choice in doing something. For example "spadać" (to fall). When you're falling there is nothing you can do about it. But if you sliped there was something you did to yourself and that's why there's "poślizgnąć się" - to slip.

This is the way in which I understand "się". But I'm not Polish teacher :)

Life / Horribly cold in Krakow at the moment , how do you cope with such temperatures ? [124]

I imagine WildRover is going to tell us: after eating beans you can fart into a jar and use the gas to heat yet more beans, for the nutrition and warmth values.

Finally I met the guy who was a director of Bruno and Borat! It's you! Can you sent me an autograph ?? ;)

First rule of survival, No.1 Waste nothing ;)

I'm afraid to ask what will we eat when the beans will end up.

Well, mother of nature probably will have a mercy around Friday, it will be around -1 to -5 :-)

Which Friday ?

Caaalmmm downn :)) Say: "Goooosssfraaabeeee" and take a deep breath. Ok now ? :)
I didn't say I hate you. That's true when you live with somebody for some time your stereotypes usually disappear. But believe me people in my age (which is under 30) have very rational approach for you although they have no experience with Russians besides reading books for history at schools...

Travel / Holidays next month - suggestions for which part of Poland to visit [14]

I can tell it will be difficult if you don't like to ski. You can go and see the mountains but you have to be prepared. Without good shoes it could be dangerous. And it's freezing out there. You can go seaside, to breathe some iodine :) but guess what ? It's freezing out there :)

Life / Polish stereotypes of other nationalities!? [472]

They prefer muslims to Christian Serbs? Interesting...

Buuahaha that's funny. You know, I've been there and I can tell you they are completely mixed. They are muslims but also orthodox, catholic and even evangelical. And I DONT CARE what religion or faith they are. They're just nice.

Wrong. I was born and raised in Pomerania - Słupsk/Ustka (you probably would prefer
to say Stolp/Stolpemunde) where my family came from Jelenia Góra (your German loving
friends most likely call that city Hirschberg). Before the war my family lived in Kraków
and Nowy Targ.

You know, Kaczynski ones said that we, people live in Wielkopolska or somewhere near german border, are "unfinished Poles" which was a little bit insulting. I didn't write we love Germans, you did. In the same way I can tell about you that you're a communist :) So if you want to be really funny or brilliant, find some less absurd arguments :)

PS. Half of my family have germans surnames and I have no problem with that :)

Life / Polish stereotypes of other nationalities!? [472]

Speak for yourself, Echo. I like Serbs and to be honest I don't know any
Pole who would express any kind of dislike towards Serbia.

I speek for myself. Most of people I know don't like Serbs because they prefer Bosnians and Croats.

Even though Croatia is a Slavic and Catholic country, their nazi collaboration history
and traditional pro-German stance are the reasons that Polish sympathy is more on
the Serbian side (at least where I come from ;)).

Your y
Your logic is interesting. Let's see who didn't colaborate with Germans. Ukrainians....did. Romanians...did. Russians...did. Czechs...did. If you prefer those who colaborated with Russians, that's ok but where I came from Russians considered to be worse than Germans.

I don't know where you come from, but I suppose it's ...eastern Poland ? :)

I know we are 40,000,000 nation but I'm not going to do some nationwide referendum every time I want to say something that could hurt somebody's feelings :)

Life / Polish stereotypes of other nationalities!? [472]

es,after English invasion in Moscow

At least you invade somebody and it's not France ! ;))

About the stereotypes of other European countries:
Austrians: It's some sort of german colony but with better looking women. They invade us in 1772 and then in 1795 but that wasn't so bed in comparision with Germans and Russians. In the matter of fact some people especially from Malopolska had some warm feelings to the Austro-Hungarian emperor.

Belarussians: they're strange and they have problems with deciding about themselves. They want to have dealings with west Europe but they hang out with Russians. They want to have their own country but with borders common with Russia ? For most of Poles there're two categories of Belarussians: there're normal people with normal problems and their goverment saying some absurd bull**its about us.

Lithuanians: we have some problems with them. We like them but it's unrequited love ;) It has something to do with Polish-Lithuanians Commonwelth from XVI century. But in every book for history in polish schools, you can read that without this union Poland wouldn't be so great superior in XVI-XVII centuries. So, dear Lithuanians, where is the problem ? :)

Finns: finnish cuisine has only one dish: reindeer. And for every Pole, it's unacceptable to eat Rudolf's brothers! All Finnish are some sort of Eskimos, they probaby carve reindeer's eyeballs and livers when they are still twiching.

Croats: they have their little country, with little islands and on every little island live little Croat and ... scurry rakija! :) They do everything with rakija: they bath with rakija, they **** rakija and even their cars operate on rakija ! Croatia shoud change the name and become Rakijaland. On the other hand Croats don't like vodka witch is very suspicious.

Serbs: the black sheep in slavic family because of War on Balkans. We don't like them, they like to rape little Albanian girls. Actually they're some kind of barbarians.

Bulgarians: they have great beaches and nice cities but they're considered as sluggishly. They have slllooooooooowww mooooootiooooooonn all the time :)

Romanian: I'v never been in Romania but my friend said it's very nice there. I mean neture, woods, castles and those charming medieval towns. BUT there's always but. My boyfriend's father used to be a quide on USSR countries. He was told never go to Romania. His friend said: "No matter what happend, just go forward and never look back. And never stop there!". It sounds frightfuly, isn't it ?

To be continued... I have some things to do :)

Genealogy / Szczyglinski Sluchaj, possibility of being Russian? [33]

I know I've posted on another thread regarding my Polish features, but do I have anything that could be considered a Russian feature?

When I woke up my humour was really bad but since I've read your thread I can tell I'm better now :)) I don't want to insult you, you seems very nice person, but don't you think it's a little bit silly to post your photos and ask "Do I look like Russian?". Because I can tell you I look like Irish though I'm not and I have no ancestors from there. If you want to know something about your Russian ascestors you have to FIND THEM :)

About "Szczyglinski" surname, it seems to be racial polish. But "Sluchaj" is very interesting. It means literally "Listen to that" in Polish. Are you sure this is a surname ? If it is, maybe you shoud find this word in Russian dictionary. Sometimes Russian and Polish words mean something completely different though they look similar.

Good luck :)

Life / Polish stereotypes of other nationalities!? [472]

Or Americans...we're waiting for the second round. Maybe we will get an entire post devoted to the two of us.

There's much more fun when you talking about somebody from your neighborhood. In Europe we're all in neighborhood. :)
There're two groups of Americans. Those who live in big cities are ok. Rest of you are Red Necks. They like to hunt bears, Negros and foreing turists. Some of them like to have sex with their own sisters and have a few deformed children together (especially in Iowa). Most of them are Baptist or Mormons with houndreds of wifes.

In generally Unated States as a great educational desert with some few well-read islands like New York or ...ee...or.. you know that would be all. You are completely not interested in another countries when there's no oil pools.

But we regard you as very breave people though during the second war you defended wrong side of Europe....
We don't understand your sense of heroism. Your country (because of neighborhood of harmless Canadian and always drunk by tequila Mexicans) have never been invade. You always had to fight because of

a) somebody blew up your ship
b) somebody blew up your aircraft carrier
c) you went on war because stupidity of your goverment (Vietnam)
d) oil
But after all we love you because of your self confidence which we don't have :)
