Language / How similar is the Italian accent to the Polish accent (when speaking English)? [34]

My friend (who's been to both Poland and Italy) says that Italian people speaking English and Polish people speaking English sound quite similar. Is this true?

You can check here for yourself, but she has trouble understanding him and he her. My favourite bit is from 8,07 onwards, she is nice about his mistakes and I like her for this. I feel bad for him though, he is having a horrid time.

Study / Polish language school in Tarnow or Rzeszow or Sanok? [27]

I don't think it is funny, I think that it is ok, you could be doing a lot worse, learning a language isn't a waste of time especially if you enjoy it.

Some people sky dive, some people paint, others watch sports on TV, none of them are wrong, it is whatever you like to do that is important.

I think that they are just questioning your choice of Tarnów but if your friends are close by it makes sense.

Powodzenia hej :-)

Language / Random "what's this Polish word" questions [8]

I am not an expert but I have found that subtitles are not a literal translationof what is being said, they are an interpretation.

If everything was a literal translation some of what you would read woudn't make any sense in English.

For example:

Co ma piernik do wiatraka. A literal translation would be "What has gingerbread got to do with windmills" or something like that. What it actually means is: "what's that got to do with anything?"

This may not be the case for your film, it could be just sloppy work also.

Language / The most effective methods to learn the Polish language? [56]

As already mentioned, I had and have my own personal method for learning Polish etc., but that probably doesn't work for everybody:-)

I read it and I like it, nothing wrong with it if it works and I am sure it does for many people. Thanks.

Language / The most effective methods to learn the Polish language? [56]

Ok, maybe I am a fool for asking this but are the methods that are used in schools effective?

Like when you were in school learning French or German etc. or any other subject for that matter.

Are schools or their methods ineffective for teaching? I don't see schools mentioned often or their methods as a good way of learning Polish etc.

Any school that you attended.

Love / 'Seks po polsku' - the sex lives of Poles: [45]

You would have to ask them. And, of course, they would lie. Even if they have less sex than their wives ...

Something is wrong here :-) Shoudn't you have the same amount of sex as your husband/wife? :-)

Language / Learn Polish or Russian [86]

I really wanna leave Polish because I'm polish, but I feel like it'd only be useful in Polish communities here and Poland, Russian is very useful

Why not learn both at the start, then stick with the one you like most or both of them if you really want.

Life / Polish migrants & expats in Poland? The Polish market would be flooded. [9]

I am interested in your experiences at linving in Poland as a foreigner.

I don't know about living there long term but I have visited a few times.

As a foreigner I don't have any particular problems with the people etc. There are small cultural differences but nothing serious as far as I can see.

Love / Why do Polish women prefer foreigners for boyfriends and husbands? [418]

This video is funny, Polish people like people from Spain, Brazil, Italy and France. They don't like Germans, the presenter said it is because they don't smell so good! Ouch :-)

It is interesting though, on Polish forums many guys like the idea of Polish women, Polish women like the idea of Spanish, Brazilian, Italian and French people, I wonder who the Spanish, Brazilian, Italian and French like the idea of.

Language / Verb Aspect: Dawać vs Dać [17]

I'm trying to get my head around the whole verb aspect situation in Polish. To start, can someone explain to me the difference between these two:Imperfective: Pan dawałVSPerfective: Pan dałOr how about:Imperfective: Będę dawałVSPerfective: DamLooking forward to your responses and thanks in advance!-Joe

To be honest this would take too long to explain properly on Polish forums, you will also have other questions later so I recommend that you buy Hurra Po Polsku 1 or another grammar book. Hurra Po Polsku 1 and the exercise book are worth the money. There is a page about the question that you asked here, exercises in the exercise book and the answers are at the back of the book.

Best of luck. prolog publishing

uduchowienie {n}............................spiritualization {noun}

the letter u instead of an o, I am not sure if there are two different words, one with an o and one with an u but that is what I found using google.

There is no real point losing your life by getting stabbed for a few hundred euro. It has happened before.

Language / Questions about Jej vs. Swoje, ą and ę, and Latin similarities [27]

ą and ę sound like "on" and "en"

That isn't correct, if you always pronounce the ę and ą as above you are being hyper correct in your speaking which is incorrect, you don't use the en sound at the end for dziękuję. Also ę has a slightly different sound sometimes for example when used in zęby etc.

Sorry but I cannot help you with your other questions. Best of luck.

Life / Are Polish natives intolerant of foreigners who do not properly speak the language? [30]

Someone told me that Polish natives are intolerant of foreigners who do not properly speak the language. Natives are known to throw beer cans, cellphones and cigarette packages at individuals who do not properly speak Polish.

I haven't read too many of the comments above, but these are my thoughts and experiences.

Most Polish people don't have any problem with foreigners speaking their language in Poland from my experience, but of course in any country you can meet someone who won't like anything that you do no matter what it is.

Some Polish people do have a problem with other Poles who don't speak/write the language properly on the internet but that is the internet.
