Life / Why do people think that Poles are culturally isolated? [126]

But you meet Polish Americans who live in "the most diversed society" on the planet

But dont travel.

Anyway the perception of foreigners is that Poland is very foreigner unfriendly, and that not without a reason as you can see on this forum everyday.

And there needs to be a massive change in society before that improves.

Maybe the conclussion should be that those two things (being xenophobic and well-travelled) has nothing to do with each other.

I have never met a traveler(i dont mean people that go to Mallorca once a year) that was xenophobic. How is that even possible?

It makes a huge difference if you travel the world or if you stay in your village all your life and get all your information from Super Expres, no matter if you live in Poland or abroad.

Unfortunately the general acceptance of racist tendencies is higher in Poland than in the rest of Western Europe.

He is living proof that some Poles living abroad are racist and xenophobic.
This doesnt prove the difference of acceptance of such views in Poland and abroad.
And for sure it doesnt help to paint a better picture of Poland.

Poles are naturally very nationalistic people.

LOL I was about to write something meaningful about xenophobia and racism in Poland, but Nacjonalista proved zetigrek point i guess.
Not saying that there are no regular Polish posters here that display their hate for everything foreign regularly.

As long as they stay in that particular country, I call them "tradition". ;-)

Lets take this forum for example.
There are members that openly post their racist and xenophobic propaganda.
On other forums they would be chased away like rabid dogs, while here the majority belittles the problem.

The way some Poles go down on anything not Polish might support such views.
In other countries they would be ridiculed for such backward attitudes while in Poland the majority at least quietly accepts it.

Food / Why carp for Polish Christmas? [157]

I dont understand this whole fish rights business.

Life / Which services is Poland still waiting for? [218]

BTW, earlier on you wrote there was only one hostel in Szczecin; I found three without really looking:

How are these hostels? They are cheap hotels.

The closest is: ptsm.home.pl/index.php?newlang=eng

Seems like our definition of hostels differs a lot.

Life / Which services is Poland still waiting for? [218]

Have you checked any of the links I posted?

I already said that there are notable exceptions, but its nowhere close to the rest of Europe.
On the other hand Poland isnt usually on the gap year itinerary, at least not like Amsterdam, Barcelona or Rome.

You obviously havent been out of Poland much or you would know that its not about a cheap bed only. In most of them you dont even get to sleep. ;)

Most of those in Poland are modeled after the PTTK and thats what the topic is about: "Which services is Poland still waiting for?"

There are notable exemptions, but like i already said they are limited to Krakow and Warsaw.

Exactly, that's what hostels are, isn't it? Otherwise you go to a hotel.

Nope, hostels are about meeting people. Thats why i didnt mention PTTF. They have no communal area, no internet, no bar etc.. All you can do there is sleep and for that i would use a hotel.

How about PTTK as well?

Unfortunately most of those are still remnants of the past.
Very basic and cheap accommodation, but no atmosphere whatsoever and the location is mostly terrible aswell.

You should ask the Guy behind ' Nathans Villa's ' why he had to close down so many of his units.

Actually i met him during the 5th Krakow birthday and the Krakow branch was doing excellent.
Although i wasnt even aware they had any hostels beside Warsaw and Krakow.

Life / Polish TV licence (abonament) - almost no-one I know pays [36]

In Germany the TV licence will be included in the electricity bill of all those who pay such a bill. This new arrangment will be valid from the 1st of January 2013 onwards.

Thats a little far fetched even for Germany.
Whats changing from 2013 on is that everybody has to pay.
They just assume that everybody has a tv, a radio, a connected computer or a smartphone.
This is only for state television btw, nobody below 60 watches that ****.

Hostels are not necessarily for youth only.
I myself am not exactly the target group, neither budget nor age wise, myself, but i still prefer staying in hostels to an anonymous hotel chain sometimes.

But yes, i mean those with cheap bunkbeds, communal area etc..
