News / American SM-3 ballistic missile site in Poland by 2018 [86]

he should ask himself why hes the former deputy minister for defence while komorowski has the backing of 69% of society

Because the then acting defense minister Komorowski, his superior, pressed to fire him, did back him up against those fake accusations and now his career is over. Szeremietiew a man who knows a hell of alot more on the military than Komorowski. Komorowski was but in by his superiors, friends, not for his competence.

dont tell me you believe that rubbish about him being actually a russian

Haha, I think Szeremietiew is the one who is of Russian ancestry, that surname is very popular in Russia. Yet he was a loyal supporter of Solidarity during communist times, served 5 years in prison during that period.

News / American SM-3 ballistic missile site in Poland by 2018 [86]

As former assistant defense minister Romuald Szeremietiew said in a recent interview "Russia is spending 700 billion dollars on rearmament over the next 10 years, Belarus is also spending more on the military. Stationing Iskander ballistic missiles in Kaliningrad, having large join Russian-Belarussian military exercises on Poland's border with Poland being the enemy shows intimidation and aggression from Moscow. People didn't think Russia would invade Georgia and it did, with Europe doing absolutely nothing. Shows how indecisive and weak NATO really is. Maybe not today, but in the near future Russia could poise a very serious threat to Poland once again. It's our job to be ready" He also said how he doesn't understand how a liar like Komorowski has the backing of 69% of Polish society. A man who lied about his doctorate, about being part of Polish nobility, a man who accused the innocent Szeremietiew of corruption and pressed for his dismissal.

News / American SM-3 ballistic missile site in Poland by 2018 [86]

Roosevelt was a WASP prick. He knew nothing of Poland's history. He once even said 'Poland existing starts wars in Europe, and offsets the balance of power" so I guess in his mind Poland wasn't supposed to exist.

America wouldn't let anyone man their weapons. They paid for it and are responsible for them. Soviets occupying Poland and forcefully stationing troops there made Poland non sovereign. It's quite another thing when Poland invites foreign troops to stay on it's soil, just like Germany has. NATO promised to help if one of its members, Poland for instance, was attacked. This help could mean just declaring war and not doing anything, or some kind of a limited engagement. By Poland having American troops and billions of dollars or American equipment on her soil it gets a much better guarantee of intervention in case of war.

News / American SM-3 ballistic missile site in Poland by 2018 [86]

The leadership in Poland are a bunch of morons in some aspects.
This move is completely Pathetic.

Poland doesn't have long range missiles like the SM-3 or THAAD. I doubt that even if it wanted to purchase the system for it's own arsenal political pressure from Russia or maybe even some EU countries wouldn't let the transaction take place. Poland for it's own missile shield had weapons on the short range level, for medium range it need to purchase weapons abroad, read somewhere the French Aster-30 and Israeli David's Sling are prime candidates. btw legend, if Poland was to rely on its European allys it might as well just surrender. Time and time again they're sold her out or collaborated against her.

American SM-3 ballistic missile site in Poland by 2018

Poland will get the latest version of the SM-3, the Block IIA which is still in development form and will be a much more improved version of the missile. It will be part of new Aegis Ashore radar-missile system. Some 24 of the missiles are expected to be placed in Poland by 2018. Obama was critisized (to Moscow's amazement) by scrapping Bush's plan for the THAAD system to be placed. The THAAD is still more or less in its development stage. While the SM-3 has been proven to be effective. The SM-3 has a longer range than THAAD (over 500 kilometers) and max altitude of 160 kilometers.

UK, Ireland / Polish is Britain's second language, says UK report [52]

Polish Deluge

LOL. It's funny I recently watched the British documentary about the Polish pilots during the Battle of Britain, and a Polish woman at the end ( remember far less Poles came and stayed in the UK after WWII then today) says how "I don't think we were ever really welcome here, I don't think they ever wanted us" Some hospitality.

News / New uniforms for Polish Army [30]

Polish Special Operation Forces (SOF) have been using uniforms in multicam (MC) pattern for quite some time.

Yes I know only the Special Forces use it, they should change it and make it the standard field uniform for the whole army. The US Army is interested in a very similar design, it was for a while willing to adapt the Marine uniform. The Universal Camouflage Pattern it currently uses has been an utter failure. Universal meaning for all combat zones (forest, desert, snow) meaning it didn't work in any. Gray isn't a color appearing in nature in any climate zone.

History / The Ribbentrop-Beck Pact [7]

Pilsudski asked France to pre-emptively attack Hitler together in early thirties, when Germany started to build up military.

Keep your friends close and enemies closer. If the French didn't wanna go to war together with Poland for their own benefit to weaken Germany, then they no way no how would ever attack Germany for Poland. Poland being between stronger states, Germany and Soviet Union had to choose an alliance with one or the other or be crushed.

History / The Ribbentrop-Beck Pact [7]

A new book by Piotr Zychowicz, a Polish author, about how Poland was to join Nazi Germany in invading the Soviet Union. He claims (according to his sources) that until the middle of 1939 Polish-German foreign relations were fundamentalised around that concept. In his book he claims that this started with the sighing of the German-Polish Non- Aggression Pact in 1934. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German%E2%80%93Polish_Non-Aggression_Pact . Assuming that the final pact (on wagging war together) would be sighed by 1939 Germany wound move against France and Great Britain in the spring of 1940. After invading France Poland's role would have been to secure Germany's eastern borders by preventing the Soviets from intervening. After defeating France and pushing the British back onto their island Poland would join Germany in wagging war against the Soviet Union. Poland's foreign policy changed with the death of Marshal Pilsudski and the changes Beck's new government made.

UK, Ireland / How much people in UK are manipulated by false anty- Polish propaganda [37]

Poles scored in 1979 - 106 points in 1989 - just 92 points and in 2006 - again 106 points . So , I don`t claim that we possess the whole wisdom of the universe but don`t assume that Poles are inferior to you even if they live in a working family environment in UK .

The average of Poles is 99, same as Germany. dailykenn.blogspot.com/2012/06/by-dailykenn_19.html

Love / INTERACIAL DATING WITH POLISH.... ( my dilema) [8]

young urban styled pollacks are into a bit of hip hop culture & seem horny for a brown ass.

Jacqueline I know and have seen quite a few Polish men date, marry latina, Brazilian, black girls here in the US. Two of my friends actually have. There are just as many Latino or Black men who go to white bars, clubs, parties or simply hang out with white guys for the sole purpose to 'tap' a white girl. Everyone want's to try something else.

.I also work in a busy office & have had polish male co workers, very handsome, smart and respectable.

Then try dating a handsome, white collar Polish man. Good Luck!

News / €80 billion for Poland new EU budget [166]

I am curious as to what you mean by "Western media" though.

Western Media, I'll give you an example of what an impact in has made on people. German fans in Poland before the Euro 2012 Germany Greece said of the Greek team "they're wearing Jerseys paid for by our money" !

billions of Euros sent over from abroad increasing wages for those who staid.

Increased the living standards of the recipients. The wages were increased because there were shortages of workers and they had no other choice.

Yugoslav self-management idea - let the workers own the factories

You mean buy out shares?

but limit the financial intervention to only providing loans for such places to open to begin with.

but if this had been a serious threat in Poland, the workers would have done what it takes to keep the place alive - especially if the alternative was some horrific State-sponsored work that really existed to keep people in food, shelter and clothing and absolutely nothing else.

No doubt. My father's family were farmers during communist times he went to school and wanted nothing to do with it, became a manager or a supervisor at an armament plant. He told me how his family work very hard all their lives, there was absolutely no money in it. The had a house, food, some clothes. If it wasn't for the grandparents sending money from France they could have never afforded to buy a car. People were eager to work but for something. In the Soviet Union after Gorbachev came to power he allowed the collective farmers to grow small plots behind their homes. Those tiny plots produced some 30% of the USSRs grains, tomatoes, potatoes, fruits etc. A huge bountiful land land Russia had to import grain from the US? what a joke. People didn't do their job because there was nothing in it for them.

News / €80 billion for Poland new EU budget [166]

Pretty much. The stupidity of the spending of those loans was unbelievable - instead of focusing on buying licences to produce consumer products, they sunk so much money into 'moustache-socialist' projects.

It was also partially stolen by our own corrupt politicians and there are claims that the Russians too had a hand in this. Investing large sums of money in steel mills (a thing of the past) in the 1970s?? No one in the west would have done suck a dumb thing.

"Around 1% of our GDP growth since 2008 is because of EU money," said Poland's Regional Development Minister Elzbieta Bienkowska.

"That's almost 300,000 jobs. It's an enormous change, a kind of miracle I would say."

Cohesion funds are not designed to work alone. There has to be matching investment on a national level. In Poland the result is that GDP per capita has risen from just over 40% of the EU average when it joined the Union in 2004 to nearly 70% now.

"We would probably have made this progress in about 20 years if we had been forced to go it alone, without EU development money," Mrs Bienkowska said.

'Nearly five months after the final whistle at the European football championships, economists and officials say that Poland is reaping the benefits.
According to the London-based Brand Finance Institute, Euro 2012 helped lift Poland up its 100-nation ranking, from 24th to 20th.

In financial terms, the value of the brand "Poland" jumped 75 percent.

"The impact on our image is going to be long-term," said Joanna Mucha, Poland's sport and tourism minister.

The 677,000 fans who flocked to Poland may be worth their weight in gold -- and not only because they spent 1.1 billion zloty (266 million euros, $341 million), or 33 percent more than forecast.

A mighty 92 percent of foreign supporters surveyed by the PBS Institute in Poland at the end of Euro 2012 said they would recommend it for a holiday, and 80 percent aimed to come back.

In 2011, three million foreign tourists visited this nation of 38 million. Experts forecast that number will grow by 766,000 a year through to 2020.

News / €80 billion for Poland new EU budget [166]

Correct me if I'm wrong!
As for the rest of your examples = are you telling me that EU is funding everything in Poland?

That's what upsets me with westerners and western media. They've been lead to believe that EVERYTHING that has improved in Poland after it joined the EU is because of the EU and the money it gives. For every euro the EU gives Poland Poland has to give one also, sometime 2! Poland's economy was growing quite steadily before the EU.

So instead of spending on roads, they could keep overblown administration, buy votes of plebs through various social spendings etc.

Actually that's partially true motorway and expressway building speeded up in the mid 1990s then stopped right by 2000.

Oh dear. That's not true in the slightest - the roads were in a diabolical state in 1990.

The state of Poland's roads can be blamed on money, or rather lack of. There were ambitious plans during the Gierek era but since most of the western loans were squandered or spent on useless projects we see the results to this day.

News / 2014-2020 EU Cohesion funds for Poland [11]

Most of the money gets lost; sucked back into the EU vacuum, and the main reason for Poland not receiving it is Poland itself. For every euro Poland receives, it has to spend an equivalent amount from its own budget (either 1:1, or a pre-determined ratio). A good example is the 5.5bn euros earmarked for rail infrastructure investment, of which only 303m was used.

That's what I wanted to know so in reality Poland will not get anywhere near the 68 billion euros for the 2007-2013 period. Hopefully they've learned by now to keep up with the deadlines.

I never heard that. Post a link and I'll take a look. Good thread!

It was in Wprost magazine, they wont let you access the archives unless you subscribe. All it said was that during the first year 2007, Poland was slow to prepare and do all the necessary things to utilize on the funds, and got some 14-16%. Next year 40%, so I'm assuming that by now (2012) they're pretty much getting all of it. I did find a new link from October 2012, as of then Poland had used up 78.5% of the EU funds allocated to her for 2007-2013 years. And that in the 2014-2020 we should expect 80 billion Euros, which should be mostly spent on infrastructure.

dzienniknowy.pl/blog/pokaz/1301.dhtml

Poland's prime minister said Friday was the happiest day of his life after it was announced the country would receive 105.8 billion euros over seven years from the new EU budget.

News / 2014-2020 EU Cohesion funds for Poland [11]

With Europe split in two between those who wants budget cuts and those who oppose them (poorer nations) how much is Poland expected to get for the 2014-20 time period? And has Poland bin given all the funds allocated to her up until now? In one article I read that of all the money meant for Poland during the first year in which Poland received them (2007) only some 14% or so was given! Because the necessary changes weren't done in time to receive them. In the following year Poland already received some 40% of the funds assigned to her. Does the money from the previous years which are not used up roll over into the next year or is it lost?

History / Polish relation about Russians, Ukrainians? [281]

Do you seriously believe that modern Russia somehow threat to Poland at the moment or will threat in any foreseeable future? For example demographically or military?

There are other ways to control a people or country then invading it. Russia has shown that doing business with it and politics are co existent. Poland had an issue with Russia, it cut off import of meats. The Ukraine had an issue it turned the knob on the gas pipeline. It seams that it expects things to be in it's favor or else... threats, intimidation. Even more so to it's Slavic neighbors it should be more of a big brother than a bully.

History / Polish relation about Russians, Ukrainians? [281]

Because Ukraine is right in between them. It's not a rivalry Poland just doesn't want history repeating itself. Russia partitioned Poland, suppressed two uprisings in the 19th century, then Polish Bolshevik War, then WWII invaded with Hitler, then forced Communism in Poland when there were supposed to be free elections. It's not paranoia or some new phenomenon Russian involvement in Polish politics too often came to no good. Younger Poles (30 and under) in general don't have anything against the Russian people we're Slavs from the same cradle. People just don't trust their government.

History / Polish relation about Russians, Ukrainians? [281]

What is relation of majority of Poles toward Ukrainian writer Nikolai Gogol?

Historian Bohdan Osadchuk was a true friend of Poland. He worked his entire life to bringing Poles and Ukrainians closer together. I remember his comments on Lech Walesa's visit to Kiev during the Orange Revolution. " Walesa went on the podium lifted his arms and the crowd of Ukrainians shouted Polsha!!!Polsha!!! A group of Russians nearby looked angrily at the Ukrainians and ever more angrily at the Poles."
