Law / Advice please - Getting monies from a Poland employer who refuses to pay [41]

Have you a records of tax and zuz payments that have been signed by the school director?

Ive saw them back in March, i have asked for copies EVERY day since! and am still waiting!

Hopefully they will all die out soon, fingers crossed anyway

I hope so, they will get their comeuppance one day!

Either way, the testicles get squeezed, just in different ways ;)

I have a feeling he may enjoy such activity :)

Law / Advice please - Getting monies from a Poland employer who refuses to pay [41]

What kind of contract was it?

Just a full time teaching contract... I'm not self employed or anything, they make my zuz and tax contributions (well hopefully, problem getting hold of the copies)

I have feeling it was a TEFL job and the unscrupulous employer banks that he will sail back to jolly England for the summer, and not come back.

Well they were more annoyed i didn't want to extend my contract with them for next year!

I have two lawyers for students

Cheers dude :)

Law / Advice please - Getting monies from a Poland employer who refuses to pay [41]

Hey guys,

I have a small problem, for which I'm seeking any information possible on what i can do.

I have just finished a 9month fixed contract with my employer, i was employed by them.

They are supposed top have paid me in surplus of 2000zl 2 weeks ago (which was my last day of employment) since then i have received nothing, they refuse to answer the phone, and so Ive been visiting for the last two days asking, normally the response is

We have no money, we cant afford to pay you, we are waiting for xxx to pay us, we made a mistake with our accounting this month etc etc etc

Today i went and the receptionist gave me 100zl, which is all they had, she showed me the balance sheet and they had 10zl left, when i told her how much they owed me, she laughed and said humm sure, baring in mind she is also waiting to be paid!

Where can i go? is there anyone who can help?

Any advice would be grand

Travel / Ultra cheap trains in Polish trains [8]

Same with InterRegio - it can be very hit or miss

I can't say anything positive for IR.... Low quality old trains, mega dirty and normally delayed.

But i also use TKL quite often and have never had a real problem, the trains aren't the cleanest, but quite quiet, well heated in the winter, generally on time and nicely priced.

TKL from Głogów (about 50km above Wroclaw) through Wroclaw, onto Krakow somthing like 55zl cool :)

Life / Small change in shops in Poland!? [95]

refused my loose change on a couple of occasions

I was manager in a 4* in Cardiff for some time, the cash office refused to bank anything lower than 10p's, some people used to get really angry!

"Sawyers".

I know of them, well sounds rather familiar :)

well TKL is even more comfortable! not that that is really that difficult in comparison to IR :)

Life / Small change in shops in Poland!? [95]

You should understand, people over 25 years of age, were brought up using only NOTES , and this 1,2 5 groszy is ridicicoulous...... should be 10, 20, 50, 1,2 , notes; 5,10,20,50

I disagree, i would hate to have the American system of money, when ever i go on holiday with Dollars i get amazing annoyed with all the paper, coins rock!

I have worked in very busy pubs in Britain

Weatherspoons??, mainly based on

we have rolls of coins, 1p, 2p, 5p

I managed bars in the U.K., and wouldn't expect my staff to ask for change, mainly due to speed of service and the main fact, it would annoy me, if i was a customer

Although on the positive, how great is it when you wake up after a big night out with 30 pound coins in your pocket :)

Life / Small change in shops in Poland!? [95]

Another thing is the other behavciour - that happaned to me long time ago and it still happens from time to time, I was about to buy new shutters in a "widow, doors store" I went in with a usual good morning I wanted to ask "this or that" and the clerk lady there answer with "sorry but do you know how much does that cost?"

Strangely this happened to me today of all places.... the train station!

We had pre-planned our route as it was across the whole country changing 3 times, when we told her, she pumped it into her computer and 2 minutes later replied "Do you know that's going to be expensive?, Around 80zl each, are you sure that's OK??"

Amazing! 80zl is nothing especially for a 400km train ride, her attitude was amazing! like she expected us to say "80zl! well no way, we will walk then!"

Another lovely day, in PL :)

p.s. NEVER use Inter Reigo services, unless absolutely no other choice (like we had today)

Life / Small change in shops in Poland!? [95]

How does it work in the supermarkets in the UK?

It's as simple as, the cash office team makes orders with there cash collection company, and they do an exchange, they bring them 1,000's of pounds in change and take the takings to be banked.

For small businesses, who bank with a branch (which i used to do), i can just walk in with proof of my business account and exchange cash for change up to 5,000 a day, anymore its better to call the counter manger and she will order what you need ready for the next day.

The fee is something like 16p per £100 exchanged, well that was with Natwest. I'm sure big supermarkets pay much less

Life / Small change in shops in Poland!? [95]

Finally someone said it!, this one of the most annoying things

Every Saturday we go to Bedronka (the only supermarket without driving), to get some supplies for the weekend, of course we don't buy the same things every week, so are unaware of the EXACT cost.

Every Friday/Saturday is always really busy, all four tills open and still massive cues, we have now realised the problem, they have no float, and thus spend all their time running around swapping change, running over to the deli or bread shop!

the busiest supermarket around and no float! OK so i will pay by card, Ah problem they don't accept cards!

The look they give you when you don't have the correct change is amazing! i think you are supposed to carry tons of change around for them!

Also why is a 100zl note like some kind of taboo like a £100 pound note (if they existed)

Unbelievable!......

Ahhh rant over....

UK, Ireland / Considering opening a Polish restaurant in the UK. [9]

Well when i was living in Cardiff, someone opened a Polish cafe, i never saw anyone eating in the cafe, it was quite cheap and in a typical Polish area of the city. Still it may work, but i don't think the locals would be down with eating Polish food!

Work / What are my chances in finding work at a callan school in Wroclaw? [22]

My accent is originally Scouse, with 20 years of Yorkshire thrown in for good measure

Perfect for any students which want to move to the north of England!

Although speaking at "required" Callan speeds means that most southern English folk wont understand you either! :)

I teach 4-6 hours of Callan a week, gives me an opportunity to relax from noisy children :)

Although if i have to ask "Whats this? It's a pen" ever again i may flip and go crazy!

USA, Canada / Where can I buy Polish Beer in SC? [26]

Isn't the sugar used completely different to North America?

Yep, its a fact

It's a shame but these products taste completely different in different locations around the world.

Coke-Cola products are awful in PL, but Pepsi products are OK!

I never buy coke here!
