UK, Ireland / Benefit cuts for Poles in The UK? [143]

So which rights, English in Poland are denied ?

Are you suggesting there is absolute equality in the areas mentioned in my post that you quoted or that Britons in PL get exactly the same deal as Poles in the UK? Yes, it's evidently true that you abandoned Poland so long ago that you aren't familiar with the Poland of today.

News / Poland is the source of horsemeat in burgers? [169]

Nothing was traced in the meaning of the scheme Jon, it was discovered as part of police investigation that the UK were reluctant to have.

What makes you think the police were reluctant to investigate.

News / Poland is the source of horsemeat in burgers? [169]

Duh, it was covered up by the people who changed lapels from horse meat to cow meat.

Now that isn't really a cover up, is it. Just a crime that someone was exposed for. You may as well call the Moors Murders a cover-up since they got away with it for a while before they were arrested.

And it's been traced to where?
Oh, not Poland, oh I see.

I'd wait until the Polish connection is ruled out before saying that.

UK, Ireland / Benefit cuts for Poles in The UK? [143]

I believe that all EU countries have to allow access to benefits to all other EU nationals

Equal access. UK benefits, fought for for decades aren't reciprocated when Brits go to, for example, PL.

It’s perfectly clear that the traceability scheme is a nonsense, UK food testing in this area was practically non existent before they were warned by others.

Now that one's just plain daft, especially as the media is full right now of something that has been traced.

UK, Ireland / Benefit cuts for Poles in The UK? [143]

Bang on. British businesses and their stakeholders put a lot into PL as does the British taxpayer through EU subsidies.

Generally, Poland's guiding principle in international relations is reciprocity. What could be more appropriate than equality here.

covered up and is now exposed

That's precisely what it wasn't. The imported contaminated meat was discovered through normal procedures and the information was publicised from the start. A funny definition of cover-up and exposure.

UK, Ireland / Benefit cuts for Poles in The UK? [143]

Ministers are considering ways of cutting welfare payments to immigrants, including reducing the amount of child benefit sent abroad by foreign nationals. The annual benefits bill for foreign children is currently £36m, with two-thirds of the cash going to Poland.

They will study a recent French decision to slash benefit payments to immigrants by 83 per cent - a move that could potentially encourage migrants to cross the Channel.

The Government also fears that reports of access to the National Health Service are acting as a significant "pull-factor" to newcomers.

Whitehall sources said ministers did not want to stop treatment for "foreigners dying in accident-and-emergency," but to make sure people did not receive routine care in Britain because it was quicker and more efficient than in their home countries.

The appropriate time to have done this has probably long passed but at least they're finally addressing it. Personally I favour a reciprocal approach. Poles in the UK having the same entitlements to benefits, land ownership rights ans voting rights as Britons in Poland and vice versa - an equal deal.

Strange to see people calling something a cover-up when it's front-page news and has been for ages. What is it being covered-up with? Newspaper?

Until Poland has been ruled out from the supply chain by an independent investigation, I'm right on the mark.

Your quote proves my point though - that in the UK there a no cover-ups.

Travel / Cozy and inexpensive pub/bar in Warsaw [9]

Yes I heard Papparazzi but never been there, I will check for sure but as I remember its not that inexpensive?

It's not especially cheap and the opposite of cozy.

Try some of the bars in Chinatown (the pavilions behand Nowy Swiat 20). Lot's of little bars, none of them expensive, most cozy, some quite trendy.

Or, if you're students, there's Pub Nora (the burrow) - a Warsaw students' place for years, off Krakowskie Przedmiescie. As for Bar Warszawa, the front place and the one at the back are in effect different bars. the upstairs room at the back feels like an old-fashioned living room, and it is quite cheap.

Language / Does Polish have a plural of "You"? [51]

95%+ of English speakers don't use it, it sounds ridiculous and effected.

Only if you can't carry it off. The authentic never seems affected.

Life / Poles in Videogames, movies, serials etc. from abroad .. [10]

Do you think that being born in Poland makes his actions less deplorable ?

Deplorable behaviour is no more or less deplorable whatever Pan Nakszynski's nationality. Ethinic origins are at best an irrelevance. Strange that some individuals get all worked up about them.

cool stuff. Especially the last one - I didn't understand anything but one word :)

. but do you know scenes about Poland or Polish people in videogames (or movies) where the country and people are mentioned?? Like Russians for example.

Those are quite good.

Nobody is off the hook. What you have is a load of buck passing.

Indeed. That and people feeling their whole country is being maligned because of some dishonest individuals.

Just because something is done in one country doesn't justify it happening in another.

News / New uniforms for Polish Army [30]

The new camouflage is a horse with two heads

They could sell one for Findus lasagne.

No harm in updating the uniforms - I would hope the officers keep their distinctive hats though.

History / Memos show US hushed up Soviet crime against Poland [97]

white/blonde haired/blue eyed Euros are oppressive.

They certainly were guilty of quite a bit between 1939 and 1945. Much of it in Poland.

The narrative of Hitler is then portrayed on current leaders, to create backing for attacks and occupations (Iraq).

Rubbish.

Real Estate / Best and worst months of the year to find a flat to rent in Poland? [39]

Not so many months ago I was told that the majority of Polish landlords deal direct, I think it was on this forum in fact.

One problem is that if you advertise privately, you get inundated by bottom-feeding agents offering to find you a tenant.

Word of mouth is usually a good way to find a flat.

However, bribery to meat inspectors has happened in the past.

Doubtless. I'm saying a little less than I know here. I'd be surprised if it still happens though.

Maggots, flies, cockroaches, rotten meat, dog, cat, horse, excrement. If you can't identify the meat as meat then you will have eaten this posing as meat.

You do anyway - you'd be surprised what gets into the food chain.

the responsibility lies with the retailer who fed the consumer,

Ultimately the responsibility is with the state to insist on controls.

Polish meat production facilities have got strict procedures and our food is safe

Hahahahaha. Do you remember the scandal in Konstancin Jeziorna, where dead cats and dogs from the dog pound were going into processed food?

Believe me - UK controls are not perfect, but at least they happen and at least they can't be bypassed by a bribe to an official.

Travel / Cozy and inexpensive pub/bar in Warsaw [9]

The one at the front of Palac Brzozowski, entry through the main door, is free admission. Bar Warszawa (the little one in Miodowa of the big front part on Krakowskie Przedmiescie) is even better.

Food / What made in Poland produce would you recommend [110]

I have always hated Ptasie mleczko

Me too. Low quality, stuffed with chemicals.

There used to be something similar but nicer called, strangely, 'Mister Ron'. I think they were strawberry flavoured and rather nice. I haven't seen them in the shops for about 10 years.
