Life / Polish people and racism. [943]

Yeah, there were some of these peoples here, but very much in the minority. It could never be seen as multiculturalism in the fullest sense. Not as we know it.

Life / Polish culture do's and dont's? [106]

I think isthatu2 has a point. When I do culture classes, I always steer clear of criticism as it's never taken constructively. I throw it in a joking away if anything, like the state of the roads here. It's not my position to come here and criticise anyway.

Life / Alcohol problems of Polish people [141]

They mistakenly put Poland in the wrong list. The 8.1 figure was supposed to be for the first quarter, LOL

Work / Salary expectations in Poland [373]

Salaries are increasing in Poland. There was a 17zł rise in my monthly social security payment (ZUS). My financial handler told me that it was due to a rise in salaries. Who am I to disagree with him? U can expect a slightly higher salary

Life / Fashion and Style in Poland [174]

I like them, they soak up the sweat rather than let ur t-shirt get drenched. They are not so popular tho but they are so useful

UK, Ireland / A collection of noimmigration's threads or "STAY AWAY from BRITAIN" [978]

Overrated in what sense? Language is power. I count myself as lucky that I can understand basic discussions in different countries. French, Japanese, German and Polish being those languages. Japanese and Polish much stronger. It really aids things, especially as a teacher who can understand students better

UK, Ireland / I have concerns over the British immigration policy so I wrote to my MP. [126]

It's a hard question for sure, one which calls for a measured response. It was Paul Weller who said, "You made your bed, you better lye in it" (Going Underground). Britain made the bed and there are some strange bedfellows for sure but we have to live with that. The problem is exacerbated somewhat by the fact that we were stretched a little b4 the immigration wave. Many people were waiting for council housing and should have been first in the pecking order but that wasn't always the case.

Brits, like Poles, have a tendency to feel hard done by, a bit of the self-piteous, poor me attitude. We have some justification but many Poles are making great efforts and inroads towards getting property for bigger groups. We see 8-10 people in 1 house which alleviates some of the strain on housing authorities. What does irritate me a little is the tendency to see the UK as a haven. We do have some 'undesirables' but I am not a Tory so that doesn't niggle at me much.

Finally, I urge PF members to be more rational (OMG, I sound like a politician). Mr H made some valid points and didn't take a radical position. Get off his back, to even insinuate that he is a BNP man is WELL wide of the mark. Start reading and absorbing his message. I have defended immigration in the past, and still do, but phasing/weeding out those who view the UK as a sanctuary would be in our national interest, and the Brits have always valued that.

Australia / I would love to meet Poles living in Sydney [56]

Some advice, just be open. The Aussies are a really friendly bunch, u just need to understand their humour. Learn some Aussie slang, that'll impress them.

Get a dog up ye

Cap all immigration into Britain, hehehe. Who would lay on such great curries after some bevvies? Who would give u a slap up foo yung or chow mein? Where would u get the variety of skilled labour that Britain prides itself on? Come on man, think

UK, Ireland / Time for the Poles from the UK to go home [437]

Who does respect the English mate? There laws, u mean laws over there or their laws? Benfits does he? Does he fit inside u? And the plural of family is, ding, families!! Contribute anything, well, we use anything with interrogatives and negatives, the last time I checked, contribute was positive. Capital letters are allowed on the forum btw. Britian, hehehe, my teacher taught me when I was 7 or 8 to spell it Britain.

Judging by ur English pal, maybe that's why u r on half ur wage. Be thankful the other half wasn't swiped too.

The British government even has the audacity to belittle the importance of referendums so I don't have much hope. Tony Blair, the great new face of Labour 11-12 years ago has a lot to account for. Never have I known anyone swing to the opposite end of the political spectrum like him. Michael Portillo is a changed man but even he didn't yank the pendulum so mightily.

MP's, Master of Puppets? LOL

What can realistically be done? The Poles have flocked in their droves as they are entitled to do so. Do u really think they care about decency when bread has to be put on the table? I echo the above sentiments, mass immigration is crippling certain parts of our economy but that was a risk of signing the EU Treaty.

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

I agree, the CELTA or Trinity courses are far from ideal but they are entry level courses b4 embarking on a DELTA or MSc. To be frank, in my experience in 4 different schools, observations are not that regular anyway.

CELTA gave me a further schooling but I wouldn't say it was worth 950 quid. Especially given the hugely varied nature of teaching. They are just letters when u secure employment. I've had to change tack so many times in teaching. Any course that indoctrinates u in one way of teaching isn't giving u a full picture. U almost inevitably have to retrain anyway.

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

I'm highly sceptical of online courses as there is no substitute for real contact and classroom exp. I am assessed by 42 different criteria and the great majority must be demonstrated in a classroom setting. Teaching is an art and its essence shouldn't be diluted by doing online courses.

Online courses should be seen as gathering info but should not be taken too seriously.

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

It's a 1-month course so u'll be done in August sometime. It depends on the school u apply to. The starting times aren't streamlined. Oct is common although most schools offer summer work

I was one of the writers of the new method but it has been put on the back burner for the time being. Avalon is not that popular I've heard. A nice name but devoid of content is the word on the street.

As for the Trinity, it's globally recognised so can be taken in so many places.
